What in the heck is online check in? Don't I still have to "check in" when I get where I'm gittin?

Online check in can speed up the process for you.
You get in a seperate line when you arrive at your hotel. They hand you your keys/package and off you go.:)
A few things worth mentioning:

1. Online check in doesn't guarentee that your room will be ready. BUT we have been lucky enough to have our room ready the past 3 trips before 3:00.

2. If you have any special room location preferences, you may be better off doing regular check in. Checking in online doesn't mean you won't get them, but if you don't and want to *negotiate* your room location you should skip the online check in - :)

It allows them to get your welcome packet, room keys, etc. ready in advance. There is a special (theoretically quicker) line at the resort desk for those that have checked in online.

We will be arriving, by car, at about 9AM. All I want are tickets to the park, etc. I am assuming I'll get those (in the mail? or when I check in) and then I'll be telling the desk folks that we'll be back at the end of the day to go to the room....which means I assume I can get keys late in the evening???

will that work?

I was wondering this also. I realize the idea behind it.

I got an email since we are arriving Friday about checking in. I can check in now if I want.

If you booked the entire package with disney, you will get your keys to the kingdom cards. they will be your room key and your park tickets.

Works for me.

So, it's online check in, then hit the short line, then hit the park, then return and learn room assignment, then hit the room, then sleep in a pirate bed that will be too small but I won't care because after all, it is, in fact, a pirate bed.

you will probably get your room assignment at the first short line lol. you can probably get into your room real quick than hit the park...or jump on the pirate bed.

Even if your room isn't ready for you to get in it, you will still be given your room number and they will text/call you when it is ready so you know. They will give you your KTTW cards which are your park ticket and room key in the welcome packet and then you are ready to hit the parks. You can leave anything you don't want to take to the parks with Bell Services if your room is not ready, otherwise you can drop it off before heading to the parks. Have fun!!

Actually, they give you the building number/location when you check in, if you don't take the first available room.

Your room number is given when it is available for occupancy; either by text or phone call.

I have only been to WDW twice. Once regular check-in, once online check-in. Arrived between 9 & 10 am both times and our rooms were ready. Thinking I'll pass on the online check-in this time. Either way we have been upgraded both times.;)

You do online check in
Hit the short line
At this point, you will find out if your room is ready or not
If it is, you will get your room keys and room assignment and off you go
If it is NOT, you will still get your room keys and your building number and asked for a phone number to either text or call you with the room assignment
You then go to a park
You return DIRECTLY back to your room

That's the beauty of Disney - one stop at the front desk and you are set for your entire trip.
