What is up with the laundry baskets outside of everyone's rooms. I just got back from my first DVC stay at SSR and kept seeing laundry baskets outside of everyone's rooms, yet I never had one. Do you request these and do you pay extra for them??

We usually have them in the laundry part of the room. Not sure why they would be outside unless they were replacing them:confused3

Did they have sheets & towels in them? Instead of using a cart at some resorts, housekeeping will deliver the sheets & towels to the room in a basket early in the morning (outside), that way the housekeeper will have them to makeup the room. They would only be delivered if that room was scheduled for housekeeping that day.

Well, now that you say that... I'm pretty sure that's right. At the THV's they will have totes with everything in them also!

So they were for people who paid extra for housekeeping then?

Yes, or people staying through CRO (they get daily housekeeping). Or members who were due for housekeeping (not sure if they use the baskets for trash & towel) or checkouts.

Those getting a full cleaning will have a basket outside their door. It can be cash guests getting daily, DVC members that paid, DVC that this is their full cleaning day and any room that has just had someone check out

If you are staying in a villa with a washer and dryer, you should have a small laundry basket either in the laundry room (OKW) or in the master closet. But if you are in a studio, no laundry basket, just the plastic laundry bag with the prices for laundry service.

During our 5 stays at VGC over the last couple of years, we noticed that there was a laundry basked filled with linens, etc., out side of every villa, every morning, including ours, and we were there for 5 days. Sometimes at the end of the day when we would return, they would be gone, sometimes they would still be there, still full. :confused3 Never did figure it out.

It's how they do it at the Grand, even on the hotel side. Weird that they left them, though.

It could be that Mousekeeping was busy working on that floor and left the baskets until they were done with the whole floor. Then they would collected the basket once the section they were working in was complete.

OKW & SSR are not hotel type of resorts, so rather than push around the typical laundry cart like at AKV & BWV, the housekeepers, early in the morning lay out a basket (filled w/ clean sheets, towels, setc.) for any villa who needs a full cleaning (like on your 4th day), and for any villa where guests are cheking out that day. After cleaning the units they put the baskets filled w/ dirty linens out to be collected. It is a seperate basket than the one left for you to use in the villa.

In my experience, if you ask and pay for extra towels etc., those are brought to you inside your room, not left at the door.

If your stay is longer than 7 days you get a cleaning on day 4. If you pay cash you get houskeeping every day. If you pay extra you can get house keeping

When we were at BCV 10/16- 10/21 we saw these filled laundry baskets outside of the Villa doors as well. We have never seen this before.
On our T & T day we had one at our door.
When we came back mid - late afternoon each day they were all gone.
I believe they were the clean linens needed that day by that villa.

The baskets help identify rooms that are scheduled for some form of housekeeping. A full basket sitting outside of a room is a reminder to housekeeping that they still need to service the villa.

If it's a Trash & Towel day and the guest takes the basket in themselves, the housekeeper was just saved some work.

Not sure why VGC would be putting baskets outside of villa rooms daily. We have never experienced that during our stays.

Everytime I see this at OKW I always imagine bugs climbing into the linens. Or dust/dirt blowing into the clean sheets that will eventually be put onto the beds. I have very rarely seen them in plastic bags or coverings but rather out in the open, sometimes for hours before mousekeeping takes them into the unit to be used.

I am not a fan of how they do this but I have never had any problems of bugs or excess dirt in my unit so it must not be a problem other than in my own imagination.

That would bother me too... SSR's doorways aren't as open to the outside as OKW's but the halls are still open and we frequently get 'visitors' (lizards and frogs) **shudder**

On our first stay at SSR housekeeping left a basket outside our door. I brought it in and we left. When we came back it was gone and the trash & towels were NOT changed. Neither did we get T&T later on that week. I was brand new to DVC and still unsure about the T&T schedule so never said a word... What did bother me though was that housekeeping opened the door to retrieve the basket - I wish they would have left a message, I would have gladly returned it if it weren't ours.

Gee thanks! I could have gone till 2042 without that visual! Now I wont ever be able to look at one of those baskets again without thinking about it! :scared1:

You should always have the expectation that resort staff will come-and-go as necessary throughout your stay. It happens whether you are aware of it or not. Lock up the valuables. Use the safe.
