Halloween is next Monday...NOT Saturday

Anyone else live in a neighborhood/community that is trying to promote trick or treating on Saturday Night? Three separate emails from the Activities Director/Golf Director and F&B manager at the neighborhood club reminding people that our neighborhood will be busy with trick or treaters THIS SATURDAY.

Our lights will be off Saturday and my girl will be out with her friends next Monday. Yes on a school night, yes when it will be freezing cold!

Our town's ToT is ALWAYS the Thursday before Halloween. If Halloween falls on a Thursday, ToT would be on the 24th. Never on Halloween.

Well, I can see the point of moving the day to Saturday but then again the trick or treaters were usually through by 9-9:30. Since the holiday lands on a Monday here there is a designated time but the Halloween fair was moved to Saturday.

I had never heard of this until I read it here on a thread last year. That would bug me - for me, trick-or-treating is on Halloween night, always. I would do what you're doing OP - even if I had to drive to another neighborhood to do it.

They tried that in our town a few years back, but the town rebelled. We always have it on Halloween night from 6-8pm

We're lucky here as the schools are closed all of next week for mid-term break. So they'll get to lie in the day after Halloween. But last year Halloween fell on the last day of their week off and it was awkward. We had a few trick and treaters on the Saturday night but the majority stuck to Halloween Night.

I had never heard of moving Halloween to a Saturday until DIS. No one around here does that, the kids still go out after dark and stay out until 9-9:30. Most of the fun, I think, for the kids is being able to run around after dark.

My mom grew up in a little town in the West Central part of Minnesota. Whenever Halloween falls on Sunday, trick or treating is done on Saturday night. I guess they find trick or treating on Sunday to be offensive.

The funny thing is that I never knew this until about 10 years ago or so. My aunt decided to hold a hayride/party for all of the great nieces and nephews and had it on Saturday night before Halloween. We arrived early and all the kids were excited that my kids had gotten there in time to trick or treat. We hadn't known about it so the kids didn't have costumes. We improvised and my kids thought it was great because they got to trick or treat twice.

My mom never talked about it from her childhood and my cousins had never mentioned it while we were growing up either. I thought it was funny.

I never heard of it either (or designated times) until I read it here on the DIS a few years back..

My kids always went out on Halloween night - regardless of whether it was a school night or not - after dark.. It was a family event - always at least one parent along, if not both..

If I had kids of trick-or-treating age now, they would be going out on Halloween night - same as always..

Where I live now (Indiana ), Halloween is always celebrated on the actual night of Halloween, and I do not like it!!! It's usually the older kids (high school) if on a school night. It's also colder after dark and we do not have sidewalks. I much preferred my former community (suburb of Milwaukee) that has it on a Sunday afternoon. It's much safer, and lots of little children out in their adorable costumes. Good photos of the cute neighbor kids. The only drawback was if there was a Green Bay Packer game going on.

I just found out that our trick or treating night is Sunday. I don't see the logic at all. I could possibly understand, if they were trying to make it on a non-school night (personally I don't see the point, but I could understand where they were coming from,) but just changing the school night they go on, makes absolutely no sense.

They nearly always moved it to a weekend day in the town I grew up in (small town, 2,800 people)... and usually Saturday (because the last home football game was generally the Friday before Halloween). It never bothered me before. Now we live in an apartment complex so we don't do anything with Halloween.

When I was a kid, the one time Halloween fell on a Sunday, we went trick-or-treating on a Saturday. But this was in the days of Sunday blue laws. We liked it on Saturday because we could start earlier in the afternoon. On a weekday we went immediately after school and had to be home before dark. This was in the city with mostly row homes so there were plenty of houses to hit.

There's not many kids around here now. At most we might get a dozen trick-or-treaters, in several groups of three or four. But it's always on October 31.

The bars/clubs usually have their Halloween parties the Saturday before.
