Hubby got a Camera & I got Christmas!!! 51 Chapters Completed!! 926 Pics!

The IRS had better not disappoint you this time. I wonder if they have to pay you interest on the claim from time of first filing? Wouldn't that be nice :). A wonderful please forgive me gift from the IRS :). The do pay great interest to :).

I have been here -- just lurking.

I like the PPH better then DLH.

I just thought ......You are going to be so busy before your Holiday trip. Moving is such a pain. I have lived in this house for 24 years and then 10 years in house before. I hope you find the perfect home and get moved super fast.

Dad to 7: being just out of high school and having your own photo lab is very impressive. It is wonderful how the cameras now are print ready---well the shots are :). Funny how in the old days you would take such a long time getting lighting perfect for maybe 3-5 shots. Now you can take 100 and pick the one you like best, no muss no fuss.

I will be reading and enjoying all the planning.

Ahh yes, old time photography, a good light meter and exposure bracketing then waiting until you developed the film to see if you suceeded. If not...too bad. and i had two occasions were the film failed to advance in my camera so no pics at all (and no way to replace them). With digital we see what we get as soon as we take it and can re-shoot as needed. Plus on our trip last summer (2010) we took over 4000 pics of DLR. That would have been like 200 rolls of film, ugh. I wish I had a digital when we went to Hawai'i in 2003. We got soom good pics but would have loved to just shoot without worrying about running out of film. Laurie takes amazing pics with her little point and shoot Canon (check her TPs :cool1:) so hope to really wow folks with the spring trip. We'll let Laurie get back to her trip planning now :worship:

Mike/Laurie LOVE the camera. I have had a bunch of different point and shoot digitals over the last 10 or so years and while they are nice and convenient I was finding I just wasn't able to get the shots I wanted like pics of the kids at school performances, you always had to be right up on them or it wouldn't work, or esp sporting events. With my kids in several sports my pics were always sub par. So for me it was also an investment because I felt like having great pics of these events was SO worth it!

I couldn't afford one like you are getting but I get a Nikon D3000. I LOVE it. It doesn't do quite everything I hope like esp the multi shots. For sports that is pretty important and I "thought" it would do that and didn't discover that it didn't till after I bought it :(

But I have really enjoyed it and it takes GREAT photos. Just wish I had the time to learn more about it cuz I am sure it does more than what I am used to. One thing I have figured out though for low light or pics like firworks you need a tripod to avoid shakes. Perhaps yours will have a setting that avoids this but I know with mine if I try to take one at night or in dark settings they are almost always blurry.

So excited for you guys!

Can't wait to start hearing details and of course seeing your pics when you return!

Still so bummed I am going to miss everyone by a day. :(

But for us we have to go over a weekend because the girls are already missing 2 days of school.

I REALLY wanted to go over their xmas break but the deals on SW were only till the 14th and good thing that we did it that way because shane's AP expires on the 15th. And yes he is going. We will still do some "family" trips together. He wants to be able to go with the girls so we have agreed as long as we are "getting along" lol that that would be ok.

Hope today goes ok and ((hugs)) and can't wait to hear more!

By only TWO days Kelly....argghhhhhhh Talk about a bummer but I'm glad you guys are going!

So as many of you know, Christmas is my favorite holiday....I love the colors, the lights, the music, the joy on my kids faces, & the smells. Basically this time of year touches all 5 of your senses. So after reading thru the Christmas Superthread, I have found some musts to do on this trip. Since I'm limited on time.....I needed to have a clear picture of things I absolutely couldn't miss. So here goes:

Fireworks!!! I love the fireworks shows at Disneyland. I love being up by the castle to see every effect, feel every boom & be surrounded by all the magic. So adding in this is a show I've never seen & the castle will be covered in icicles....this is probably my biggest must do!!

Seeing the Christmas Parade. I'm a sucker for a Disney parade!! Some parades have faired better in my mind (DEP, Parade of Dreams) where others we're ok (Celebrate, Pixar). I like them all, don't get me wrong.....some just have a special place in my heart. I have seen clips of the DL parade on TV & youtube & have a feeling I will be placing this parade in my favorites!!!

I have to get on both holiday rides: Haunted Mansion & It's a Small World. I've seen lots of pictures of both of these & am excited to see them in person.

So after hearing about the Holiday Tour.....I knew this would be a great way to take care of the parade & the 2 rides. Plus, I'll get the history of the holidays in the parks. I think the tour will be perfect time to go picture crazy. I'll have things pointed out to me & I'll have time to capture some great holiday pics.

I need to see all 3 resort hotels. I think I have this covered pretty easily. I'll be staying at the PPH, we'll walk thru the GCH to get into DTD & the parks & finally meeting Sherry in person......means we HAVE to eat at Goofy's Kitchen at the DLH. I think our undying love for Goofy's is what drew Sherry & I together here on the DIS. It was the first (and very important) step in forming our friendship. Since we're finally meeting....it only seems right that we go here. If this happens....I'll see all 3 hotels!!

I'm a sucker for Santa & reindeer. Do I still believe?? Maybe not in the sense that children do.....but I believe there are Santa's in everyone's lives. Someone that will step in to help you when you need it most. We've had a few Santa's in our lives......otherwise our young kids wouldn't have had much of a Christmas years ago. So Santa & I must meet. (I hear he's in a few different places) Big Thunder Ranch is top of my list for seeing him!!

So many holiday treats will be out & I'm sure I will eat more than my fair share.......but a few things really caught my attention & got my taste buds salivating......so I have to try:

Gingerbread Beignets at Cafe Orleans.....I hope they don't mind me coming in just for dessert.....lol

Caramel Apple Cider

Demitasse Dessert: Chocolate & Peppermint cake topped with mousse & served in a Mickey Santa Demitasse cup

I'm sure I'll be adding to this list....but I'm also trying to be realistic on how much I'll be able to accomplish. I heard WoC will have a Prep & Landing Pre-show......with only 2 nights......I'm trying to figure out if I could add this in. I already love WoC....but adding some Christmas to it would really be neat. My biggest fear?? Going my first night to WoC & then planning the Fireworks for night 2 & having them cancelled due to winds/weather. I would be devistated if that happened. I have never been to DL when they've had to cancel the fireworks....but I'm not sure I want to risk that happening. So I'll stay undecided about WoC probably until I'm there.

Sounds like a wonderful plan, Disney makes Christmas feel so special, it will keep you on a high for days to come.

I imagine it will.....sorry my family won't be there with me....but this will give me a chance to check it out before exposing our autistic/delayed 4 yr old twins to it. DL is overstimulating on it's own....but adding in all the holiday stuff could be just too much for them right now in their lives. If I deem it possible....we will try to plan a trip for the family.

Mike even suggested if I thought it would be good for them...we'd cancel our February family trip & postpone it until next Christmas season. I told him I thought we'd have a rebellion on our hands if we did that...... :rotfl: We were supposed to go in October & pushed it off until Feb.....not sure we could push it off that far & not have trouble!!

Janelle yes I know I am SO bummed that I am going to miss you guys by just a few days and Laurie by only a few hours LOL. But that was the only time we could get away where the kids wouldn't miss TOO much school.

Laurie your plans sound perfect!!

We did the holiday tour a few years back and it is lots of fun! Katy's birthday is New Year's Eve and we got special seating for the parade and at the end Santa comes and he spotted Katy's button and wished her a happy birthday. That was a GREAT thing! She really enjoyed it!! :)

I am with you I am REALLY hoping the weather cooperates this year since last year with that awful rain we missed EVERYTHING. We had ressies at Carnation Cafe and Big Thunder Ranch as well as something else I don't remember but 3 out of the 4 ressies that we made had to be cancelled because of the weather :( . The ONLY one we got to do was Blue Bayou for Katy's b-day.

They also cancelled the parade, fireworks everything. We didn't get to see hardly ANY of the holiday stuff other than just decorations. And as I mentioned we ended up having to go to the movies of all things because it was just SO miserable.

So REALLY praying for a better trip this time.

We did WOC in June and although I love it and would like to see a holiday version I think we are going to skip it this time. You will have to let me know if you got to see it and I KNOW you will take pics! ;)

Everything sounds awesome so can't wait to see and hear more prep!! :)

Morning Kelly!! I remember last years weather was horrible & your trip was right in the middle of it. I pray that S. Cali got that out their system & our time there will be dry & lovely!! I really want to see the WoC but not sure I want to chance missing the fireworks. I will probably try for the fireworks both nights....just to make sure. Plus I want to see IASW all lit up at night. More time would be ideal, but I will take the time I was blessed in getting & enjoy as much as a I can.

Thanks for the welcome Laurie! I am only online during the week when I'm at work - I don't have internet at home...something about being an adult and having to choose priorities and electricity seems more important than internet at the moment...whatever! :confused3

Your plans sound great! I haven't been to Disneyland in many many years during the holidays and last time I was a teenager and more concerned with seeing my friends and "being cool" than with enjoying the decoration and atmosphere...

Can't wait to hear more...

Sometimes being an adult & responsible sucks.... :rotfl2: Hate having to chose one thing over another....especially when it comes to utilities...ugh!! Why can't we just live for free & that way we have money to do the fun stuff!!! :woohoo:
