March 2012: Spring Break, Here we come! Threadjackers take over the world!

I'm so excited! I finally convince DH to let us book under the Free Dining for March! After checking schedules, we are officially booked for my Spring Break (3-9). I'm a bit nervous about going in March (weather), but excited for a new experience!

This will be our fourth WDW trip and our first IoA visit. Previous trips have been late April, late May, and early June. I absolutely LOVE late May -- and if they were offering FD for late May, our dates would be 19th-26th instead. But ... we can't pass up such a great deal, especially since DD will be considered an "adult".

I've done a lot of research on pricing, and have been crunching numbers since we got home from our last May trip. I was determined to get us back to WDW within our budget. This isn't my ideal trip ... as its much shorter than I wish for it to be, but its still better than not going! :goodvibes

I already have most of the details worked out, with some minor revisions here and there. Unlike last year, the kids know about the trip and can (thankfully) help me plan!

Stay tuned for the chaos that is sure to develop!

(Introductions to come soon.)

Because I suffer from being slightly obsessive-compulsive, the table of contents will not be in chronological order. It will, instead, be grouped into categories. Most posts should be stand-alone posts and should not warrant reading in a particular order. If you're persistent on reading things chronologically, I recommend scrolling through each page. All major updates I post are in selected fonts and colors (versus the default settings I use for most replies). So visually it should catch your attention if skimming through.

ATTN: Due to some changes in the trip, the PTR has since changed somewhat. The "OLD" links are available at the bottom for those who have no life and are bored. Please refer to the "NEW" links for current information! WOOT!

I'm here, and so happy you are gong back for another trip. :goodvibes

:welcome:

Thank you! You did say you were tagging along for this trip, right? ;) (We do need an acting referee so I don't put DH in time out again.)

Background Information:

This will be our fourth trip. As can be seen by my signature, our first trip was in 2009 and I've insisted on an annual return. I have learned so much valuable information here on the DIS, it has really eased our planning for our stay. Each year, DH swears we are never going back. Each year, I bat my lashes and he gives in. The previous years, the kids have known about our trip, except for last year. We surprised them May 2011. It was so hard not having my wonderful planners helping me! It was a ton of fun surprising them, but I didn't have anyone to talk Disney with outside of the DIS. I thought I was going to go insane! :scared1: (For the details, please see my TR -- link in my signature.)

About Lidian

Lidian is not my real name, it is a nickname I've had for many years (long story, not relevant). I'm currently a 32 year old stay-home college mom. I'll be 33 by the time our trip rolls around.

Wait, did you just say stay-home college mom?

Yes. Yes, I did. I've stayed home with the kids for the past 3-4 years. This past Fall, I started college classes. I am a full time college student. My youngest started Kindergarten this year, so I thought I'd return to work ... only to be met with no jobs available. I was over-qualified for simple jobs; and under-qualified for the rest. Most employers wanted some sort of degree. So here I am, fulfilling my dream of becoming an Accountant. Yep. I'm a nerd. I love Accounting. (Plus, I'm great at it!) I've not decided which branch of Accounting I want to fall into ... but Auditing sounds right up my street!

Again on the nerd side, I love video games. I play World of Warcraft (WoW) and Sims 3 mostly. I also love watching anime and reading manga.

My favorite Disney park is probably DHS. I have too many favorite attractions to try to list them all. While I'm not a huge Star Wars buff (I've seen them and enjoyed them), I do love Star Tours and was very excited to ride the updated version this past May. I cry during parades and fireworks (I try to stifle it, because my body wants to openly weep during them). I'm a sap for all things Disney. I struggle to breathe if I try to think about not going back each year. Yep, I'm that addicted. If I had a Ladies Trip, I'd still stand in line to see Mickey and other characters. I don't care who gawks at me, I'd do it and be proud! As I tell my friends, I go to WDW every year and I'm nice enough to bring the rest of my family. :goodvibes

DH

DH is 30 and he despises WDW. I know, he's not human. He loves the food down there, so he focuses more on dining than anything else. He does have some favorite attractions (Star Tours, Muppets 3D, Indiana Jones, etc), so its not all bad for him. He's a nerd, too. He loves video games (moreso than me). His favorite parks would have to be Epcot or DHS. He tolerates them the best. He's the smartest person I know (has a high IQ, I'm sure). He loves to rattle off random bits of information no one knows about. He loves Epcot for the World Showcase. Hmm ... I'd guess his favorite countries to visit would be France or Italy, perhaps Norway. He does insist on riding the Norway ride, and we spend a lot of time in the gift shop. He can speak Turtle (see my May TR for details) and he's a wuss when it comes to rides. If it has a height requirement, there's not much luck getting him to ride it. He has ridden BTMRR once, and tolerated it. But he's very thankful that DS is terrified of the "runaway choo-choo" and won't have to ride it again anytime soon. I've yet to talk him into Mickey Ears, but he did purchase an Indiana Jones hat our first trip (and wears it all the time). Hmm... okay, 2009 he got the Indiana Jones hat (fedora), 2010 he got a Kermit ballcap, and 2011 he got an Indiana Jones ballcap. All of which he wears regularly.

Oh, back on track ... I thought he had a favorite restaurant (Wolfgang Pucks), but found out today, he only liked it for the Creme Brulee they had on the menu. Since it was not on the menu last year, he confessed it was the only reason we have gone the past three years. :lmao: I have done research and opened a thread for Creme Brulee yumminess at WDW so he can get his fix in this next trip.

DD9 / 10

DD is currently 9, but she will be 10 by the time we go back. She's excited to be considered an adult and looks forward to ordering from the adult menu. We're letting her practice ordering off the regular menu now, and letting her adjust to the food portions. She has asthma and a milk intolerance. She has done well in the parks with her asthma, and we hope the trend continues. With her milk issues, it makes dining sometimes stressful. She wants to eat ice cream like little brother, but I don't want her to suffer the consequences. I hate being the "bad guy", but it truly is for the best. Last year, we didn't have many chefs/managers/servers help her with ordering, but perhaps we'll have better luck this year! When we aren't offered guidance, we avoid the obvious things and hope that whatever she does order has trace amounts that she can handle.

DD is a girly-girl. She loves wearing heels (around the house) and dresses. She adores the Princesses and will beat you at trivia on them any day of the week. :rotfl: She's taking after me and is totally in love with WDW. I'd love to do a mother-daughter trip with her one day. She's also a thrill-junkie. Her favorite ride is Tower of Terror. :scared1: This is the only ride I actually despise. I get nervous just thinking about having to ride it. 2010 was the first year she was brave enough to ride the bigger attractions. We watched videos of all the rides, so she knew what to expect. I am thankful I have a coaster-buddy. Her favorite park is probaby MK. She loves the parades and fireworks, and she doesn't mind that I cry.

(This is probably one of my favorite pictures of her.)

DS5

DS is 5 and will still be 5 in our March trip. He'll turn 6 late March. He loves Phineas & Ferb and hoping to meet them in March! They arrived the day we were heading home in May, so we were all a bit sad. He loves Muppets and shows great interest in pirates (especially Captain Hook). He enjoys Disney Junior of the mornings. Outside of P&F, he adores Donald Duck. His face lights up seeing Mickey or Donald, but really he just loves meeting the characters. He knows most of the Princesses (thanks to his sister and I), and he's content to flirt with them. I think his favorite is Tinker Bell. He openly confessed he wanted to see her because she was pretty last year.

DS is currently married (he says) and just started Kindergarten this year. He loves being in the same school as sister. He's very bright for his age, and sometimes we don't give him enough credit and he makes us look dumb. :lmao: He babysat Dendoggy (my dad) over his Fall break and told him he'd go to WDW and bring him back some dubloons (they were watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates). He promised to see the Disney Junior show and grab all the dubloons for Dendoggy. :rotfl2: (Dendoggy stems from not being able to say Granddaddy very well -- from DD. It just stuck.)

We were hoping to take Dendoggy this trip, but some things have come up and it won't happen. :guilty: Anyway, DS's favorite park is probably MK or AK. He loves the animals. He has issues riding the trains, since he's terrifed of BTMRR. He thinks all trains are now runaway trains. It takes a lot of encouragement to get him to board a train now ... which is kind of odd since he is a train-fanatic. (He loves Thomas.) DS can name most parts of the train, and he can name ALL the Thomas trains. I can't tell most of them apart, but he knows, and I can't trick him either! DS won't ride much. He's a wuss like his daddy. :lmao: I do hope that one day he'll see the light and love the thrill rides. I won't push him, though. I'll let him watch videos of the rides he's refused to try in the past and see if he'll attempt them this upcoming year. (He probably won't, but its worth a shot.)

Disney2011pictures024.jpg

I didn't mean to write a novel. :scared1:

Coming soon, a few details about our upcoming March trip!

Great intros! I didn't realize that DS doesn'tdo a lot of the rides.

I love the Kermit ears. ;)

Great intros! I didn't realize that DS doesn'tdo a lot of the rides.

That's my fault for not being very descriptive before. :lmao: Stupid college courses have me all over-writing to make sure my bases are covered.

I can't think of a single ride he'll try that has a height requirement. He's tried many of them before (in 2010), but refused them last year and keeps stressing he won't ride them ever again. I know he'll try them again one day, and I'll be patient in the meantime.

The Kermit ears are still a big hit around the house. He'll ask every once in awhile to wear them. They had "hat day" at school a few weeks ago. DD wore her Pirate Princess ears and DS wore his Kermit ears as "hats". :lmao: DD said there was quite a few people with Mickey ears at school, and those who weren't were jealous and asked where they could get some.

Count me in!

I wish I could convince my family to go every year! We've been in '07 and '10, and have plans to go back in 2013. And that one will probably be the last time I can get my kids to go, LOL!

I was hoping to get my family back next year, but my girls balked at that idea for 2 reasons. One, they want to wait until the Fantasyland expansion is complete... and the other reason is that we had already been talking about planning a big beach vacation with DH's whole family for next summer. So it will be 2013 instead of 2012 before I can get back to the Happiest Place on Earth! But that's okay, because I really want to stay at a Deluxe... so this will give me two years to save instead of just one!

:welcome:
You do know I'm in the market for a Girls Trip, right? ;) :lmao::rotfl2:

I was torn about the Fantasyland expansion ... I'm afraid that next year, DH will put his foot down and say "NO MORE TRIPS!" So I know I'm really pushing some boundaries getting this one in. I don't know if anything will be open during March 2012 ... and I know that it won't be complete until late 2013 if I read correctly. So perhaps I can get a trip (with our without DH) in 2014 to see the expansion finished if nothing else.

I think the funny thing is that he almost had me talked into a Disney-free 2012 ... but then I convinced him that FD for March would be worth it (and in the budget). :lmao::lmao:

I really want to stay at a Deluxe. Every year we say "next year we go deluxe!" ... But it never happens (yeah, not happening this year). Perhaps I can get a Girls Trip in line and we can go Deluxe! Or maybe I can convince him of a romantic getaway to his unhappiest place on earth? :rotfl2:

But that is a good plan you have going. :thumbsup2 I look forward to hearing about how awesome it works out for you! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Yeah I found your report...and our trips will be overlapping. Our dates are most likely going to be March 4th through 8th now.

Looking forward to hearing all about your planning. I would LOVE to surprise our kids with another trip to WDW but it won't be happening this year...or next year. They already know about our planned 2012 Park and Cruise Trip. Maybe I can try to surprise them another year! :confused3

A short trip to WDW is better than no trip at all!

Perhaps we'll bump into each other at some point! :goodvibes

We had a blast surprising them last year ... but it was so hard on me to not have someone to talk Disney to. :headache: I do get misty-eyed seeing "surprise" videos, though!

I agree completely that a short trip is better than no trip. And who knows... maybe DH will cave and we can extend! (Not likely, but who knows! :confused3)

I'm hoppin' on for the ride! :thumbsup2

OK - so according to your dates - we'll overlap for 1 day! Do you know where you are staying yet?

Your family is precious - I love that DH and DS won't ride rides with height requirements... Too cute. Hopefully DS will ride them later.

I'll respond more later - have to run and make dinner. popcorn::

Please make yourself at home!

That is right, we do overlap for one day ... you're arriving on the 8th, and we leave out around 6am on the 9th. I have the resort booked (it's definite), but haven't released that information yet. Yep, I'm horrible. :lmao: Everyone has to wait patiently. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the compliments! I'm a bit fond of them myself. ;) I'm hoping that DS will make some attempts this year. I know that if DS will get on a ride, DH will probably give in. Fingers are crossed!

So what's for dinner? New girl to the PTR has to cook the rest of the week. :rotfl2:

Ok, so once you release this info... How about this - here's our plans for the first day... Get there... Unpack... Wander around the resort.... Swim.... at about 3 PM, hop a bus to DHS and take the boat to Boardwalk for our dinner reservations at CMC. :thumbsup2 So, if you are staying at POFQ, or Boardwalk, or YC - it will work out perfectly for us.

Does Disney transportation count as a ride? :rotfl2:

:Thanks for the compliments! I'm a bit fond of them myself. ;) I'm hoping that DS will make some attempts this year. I know that if DS will get on a ride, DH will probably give in. Fingers are crossed!

I hope he makes some attempts too... Disney rides are some of the most tame out there. Honestly, there is nothing I've ridden at Disney that I didn't fall in love with. However, RnR scared the :mickeybar out of me... The first time I rode it with Alli and she was only 5... I didn't realize that it went upside down - so there I am in the dark - upside down - reaching over to hold her in her seat. I usually don't mind upside down loops, but that one didn't have enough G-forces to hold us in our seats. Really scared me. However, she is a bit older now, and I might attempt to ride it again. :rolleyes1

:So what's for dinner? New girl to the PTR has to cook the rest of the week. :rotfl2:

Well, DH and I decided to make a ham on Sunday - we forgot that the girls were at youth group on Sunday evening, so there we were, eating a whole ham all by ourselves. :rotfl2: So, the theme for the week is "ham". Last night was ham with au gratin potatoes. Today is 16 bean soup with ham. Tomorrow is ham sandwiches. Thursday will probably be ham with scalloped potatoes. And friday, is our usual, pizza (no ham). By the end of the week, we'll be  of ham. So, that should take care of my week of cooking. :rolleyes1

Anyways... when exactly are you planning to release your resort info???? Inquiring minds, n' all that. :surfweb:

Pixie, you snuck in there on me!

So let's check our calendars and get that Girls Trip going. :lmao: We need TK and Corrine in on it, too! Where are those silly girls? :confused3

I've been trying to search for an accurate time-line, but I don't think it really exists. I think some websites have guesstimates, but I think Disney is holding back information in case of issues or something. I really want a schedule. Dates. Times. But ... that's the OCP in me. :lmao:

Thanks... I plan on it. :lovestruc

Disney Transportation is considered a ride in my book! :thumbsup2 Sadly, we are not staying at any of the resorts you mentioned. I really, really tried to get POFQ booked (it was my first choice), but we looked at what was available and chose our resort. We're happy with it. :goodvibes I'm hoping to release that information on this thread within the next day or two. I've been super swamped with homework and a project in ... ugh ... Marketing. But I'm hoping for free time today. :woohoo:

Disney totally has some of the most tame (and most fun) rides out there! I completely agree! :cool1:

I love RnRC ... but yes, I was paranoid with DD riding it for the first time (same with Space Mtn). I was all trying to hold her in and stuff. :lmao::rotfl2: On Space, I even asked a CM -- "Are you sure she's buckled in tight and secure?????" (With total fear in my eyes. The CM got a good chuckle after we departed, I'm sure.) RnRC is a must do-multiple times. DD and I go ride it until we can't stand it (or the wait gets too long) while DH and DS go find things to do -- usually HISTK playground. I allow her to drag me on ToT once a visit ... and I must confess, the drop-generator was very good to me last time (but not my first time).

Well, DH and I decided to make a ham on Sunday - we forgot that the girls were at youth group on Sunday evening, so there we were, eating a whole ham all by ourselves. :rotfl2: So, the theme for the week is "ham". I love ham. And we always have a big one, and eat it until we're  of it, too. The 16 bean soup sounds good! (Especially today, its COLD out there!) Just keep the meals coming and we'll all be full and happy. :lmao:

Resort info is coming soon. I promise. :flower3:

I guess when we go to WDW in March, we'll need a place to rest our heads every day, right?

DH and I sat down and discussed the options:
Can we handle a value?
Is a moderate in our budget?
Why are deluxe resorts so darn expensive?

We answered:
No.
Maybe.
It doesn't make sense!

I'm a number cruncher. Yep, I'm all about those digits. So I kept moving things around and finally I came up with a trip that would fit our budget:

5 nights at a Moderate resort with Free Dining

So which Moderate resort?
I voted for POFQ.
DH voted for CSR. (Kathy, you'd be so proud!)
The kids voted for CBR.
DH said absolutely NO to POR.

Who do you think won?

cbr1.jpg

Image borrowed from Bing.

The kids won. Mostly because POFQ had no availability and DH doesn't know how to say no to the kids. :lmao:

I love logging in to WDW's website and seeing this:
cbr5.jpg

We officially booked Friday, but once DH gave the green light, I made the ADRs. No point in booking if there's no where to eat, right?

Before long, we'll be seeing these sights!

This will be our second stay at CBR. We had an absolute blast visiting CBR in 2010. I am very ashamed to say, I didn't take ANY pictures of the resort! :scared1: I know, I'm a horrible DISer! I did take videos ... but they're not real watchable ... because I'm walking and I can't walk and chew gum at the same time ... let alone ... walk and try to video. The screen is all shakey and its hard to see what I'm trying to film. :sad2:

We won't have a pirate room this time around ... we just booked a standard room. (Last time we were in a Pirate room with a water view.)

The only negatives we had when we stayed at CBR was we did sometimes wait forever and ever for a bus. Also, the pirate beds weren't as comfortable as I needed them to bed. (I have moderate hip and back issues and I'm in/out of physical therapy every few years for it -- so I needed the support.) However, I did sleep well enough, and if the kids wanted another pirate room, I'd book a pirate room for them -- without hesitation. DH said the bed was just as comfy as any other hotel bed.

Kathy, I'm sorry that DH didn't win. I wanted POFQ because we had never been there before -- I'm all about trying new things. But all in all, I'd be happy just sleeping on property. :lmao:

Coming up soon (in no particular order):

I also have a few upcoming posts that I'll be asking your recommendations and advice on. So you'll just have to sit tight, hold on, and see what's in store!

Cool! :thumbsup2

CBR was definately on the top of our list! I really had a hard time choosing between CBR and POFQ. The real reason I chose POFQ (Shhhh...) is because everytime I tried to book a "fake" trip (you know, where you get only as far as inserting your cc #), POFQ was always full, and the one time it wasn't, was when I was actually gonna book a real trip. I figured if I really wanted to try it out - now was the time. :lovestruc

However, the theme at CBR really captivates me, as well, so I am sure that will be our next stay.

I am so excited to hear what the rest of your plans entail. :cloud9: And thanks for not keeping me in suspense for too long. :rotfl2:

CBR is absolutely stunning! So is CSR! I can't speak for the others, since I haven't been lucky enough to score a visit. Then again, I don't think I can say anything bad about any of the resorts. :lmao: I would have preferred to try a new place, but I'm just happy and thankful to be going back. So whatever DH and the kids want, I'm okay with that. This time, I shall remember pictures! Lots of them! :rotfl2:

I booked many "fake" trips myself. So I'm guessing I have you to blame for snatching up that "Oh POFQ is full -- LOOK it's open! -- Oh, its full again" scenario I had. :lmao::lmao:

Tell your husband I send him a . But he is very sweet to not let the kids down (so major brownie points from me). I think the kids would have been disappointed with the POFQ pool after experiencing CBR and CSR's pools.

I agree -- why do the deluxes cost so dang much? We would never have stayed DVC if it weren't for the generosity of people.

Can't wait to hear about day to day plans and ADR's.
