Question about the DxDDP

I know that each person gets an app, entree, dessert. Do you have to order all of them at each meal?
5 apps at one time may be a bit much on the table, lol, but we could get 5 different to sample between us if they have to be ordered. I know my kids, I'd hate to see them fill up on apps then not eat their entrees.
Desserts, no problem the more the merrier!

What would you do? Go to a restaurant and just order an appetizer??

Do kids get appetizers as well from the regular appetizer menu?

From my understanding, you don't *have* to order them, but you either use them or lose them. You can't just go have an app in one place, dinner in another, etc.

I would suggest maybe splitting meals to save credits if you think food will waste.

All entitlements linked to a specific credit must be used at once if you want that item. So no, you do not have to order 5 apps, entrees and dessert but you forfeit whatever you do not order at that meal.

Apps at most places are single serving sized a few are your traditional table sized portions (mussels, calamari, flatbreads, onion rings) but a lot are soups, salads or small gourmet items. Kids apps are either a side or a small soup, salad, fruit or yougart.

Many desserts are also smaller single serving portions compared to a typical chain restaurant. Kids are small ice creams or fruit except at signatures.

Doing signatures and sharing is a great way to use dxdp credits :thumbsup2

3 of OP's kids are Disney "adults" so they would be getting the regular adult-sized appetizers, entrees and desserts...they would not be getting the sides typically served on the kiddie menus. They have a 2 yr old that would not be on the plan at all.

Thanks for the info. We'd have 5 adult apps so it's good to know they don't have to be ordered with each meal. & we'll have more than enough between the 5 of us to share with the youngest. :goodvibes

Obviously, you can always order less than you are entitled to. That just is more profit for Disney. And yes, 5 adult apps, 5 entrees, and 5 desserts, would be quite a bit of food!
But as opposed to wasting entitlements, you might also opt to split some credits--- For example, use 3 credits and order 3 apps, 3 entrees, and 3 desserts, for the 5 of you. Giving yourself some extra credits for signature dining, etc.
It's just another option.

This is a good idea. We have 1 signature planned & the canldelight processional package as well. We'd figured on having to pay for 2 meals OOP because of those, but splitting some credits sounds better! They allow you to do that in the restaurants?

They allow splitting at *most* non-buffet restaurants, there are a few exceptions.

.... But I'm in shock that even on the deluxe plan, you ran out of credits? Were you planning on 3 meals per day? Most people seem to be of the mindset that 3 full meals per day on the deluxe plan is too much food. You can do 2 real meals, and a 3rd light meal out of snack credits. My family does small snack credit breakfasts, with maybe 1 or 2 CS breakfast platters shared.

I've been figuring on 2 TS, breakfast & dinner each day, then a CS lunch each day. Maybe I'm figuring wrong, lol. With 2, may a well say 3, teenage boys, they tend to eat quite a bit, lol.

I think you'll find that you skip a few of those CS meals and probably share at the ones you do keep. That's how it usually works out for us, even with a teenage boy. You shouldn't need to pay anything OOP.

It's true - use them or lose them. You don't have to order it but you can't double up on apps at your next meal because you skipped one the previous meal. We did DxDP at the end of September and found we only took a few bites of our apps in order to eat our entrees and a few bites of desserts. Most places give you bread/rolls too so we wouldn't normally order apps, so we found this to be a lot of food. There were a couple times we didn't order apps because we were not real hungry and knew we wouldn't touch them. There were also some that did not appeal to us.

TS breakfast -- especially if a buffet, may easily keep you pretty full to dinner, maybe with a snack thrown in. At most, plan on splitting a few CS lunches, just to bridge over to dinner.

We typically do a "snack credit breakfast" -- fruit cup, yogurt, toast, cereal, bagel -- are all snack credits. Then a 1 credit early lunch, and a 2 credit dinner. And we are all overstuffed.

When we did the DxDDP, we ate later breakfasts and mostly signature dinners. Sometimes, we ate TS or QS lunches if our ADR for dinner was late, but otherwise we just had a snack. We always ordered our apps and our desserts, even if just to have a few bites. These are not like what you would get at chain restaurant, where they are huge and enough for 3 or more to share. I would think that most teenage boys would pack it away easily, so I'm sure they will love the amount of food.

If your eating at signatures the apps are the best part of the dinner. Take advantage of whats included. Nobody is going to make you clean your plate. We love the dxdp. Enjoy.

What time of year are you going? We were there at the end of September and are two adults and did DxDP and found the heat made us feel tired and full and not wanting to eat. We figured the same as you and actually wound up cancelling a couple dinner ADRs because we knew we couldn't eat a whole meal. I would say make an early breakfast ADR and then a late dinner ADR, and use snack credits in the mean time. That probably would have worked for us but unfortuantely our dinner ADRs were too early.
