DxDp Questions

I have a couple questions regarding the DxDp...we are a family of 5 (3 Adult and 2 children)

1. If we want to eat at a QS restaurant are we able to convert TS credits to fit eating at a QS?

2. If we are eating at a QS can we order 4 adult meals (let the 2 children split and adult meal)? I know on the QS or DDP there is no difference between an adult and child QS meal when it comes to the registar...

3. At a TS restaurant is it correct that we could only order 3 adult meals if we only have 3 adults? I understand that the kids have to order off the child menu...but could we order an additional adult meal and use an extra adult TS credit. Would they allow you to use 4 TS credits at one meal?

I am a little worried about my boys getting tired of the children's menu...and considering bumping up my 9 year old to 10. Although he eats like a bird...

1. Yes

2. Only 3 adult meals at a time may be ordered.

3. Same answer as 2, but you could order something in addition to his child's meal and pay oop for it.

General - there should be plenty of food to share with your 9 year old from the 3 adult meals you choose. He can eat anything at buffets, too.

Just a technicality on question #1 -- there are no "TS credits" on DxDP. You get "meal credits", each of which can be used at TS or CS locations, so there's no need to trade one type of credit for the other.

Don't forget that on the DxDDP you will get 3 adult apps and 3 adult desserts at your TS meals that you can share with DS9 (he will get his own with his kids' meal, but it won't be as good as yours).

You will not be able to order more than 3 adult meals at a time if you have 3 adults listed on your key card.

The DIS Restaurant Board does not allow discussion regarding using the children's credits to purchase adult meals, unless it is at a restaurant that has no children's menu. Disney is quite clear in its dining plan literature that the children's credits should be used to purchase child's menu meals, no matter if there is a difference at the register or not.

1. THe DxDP credits are just meal credits -- they are good for TS OR CS.
2. No. There are some reports of cashiers allowing it, but typically, you are limited to ordered 3 adult meals at a time, in your case.
3. Same as #2. Limited to 3 adult meals.

Probably not worth paying to upgrade your child for deluxe, but there are plenty of ways to avoid getting sick of the children's menu--
1--- They can eat anything they want a buffets.
2--- They can share off adult plates. Most meals are pretty big servings, thus the 9 year-old may occasionally share an entree with an adult.
3--- An adult and child may occasionally trade meals--- adult eat the kids meal, kid eats the adult meal.
4-- Signature restaurants have vastly superior kids menus. In fact, some adults would be perfectly happy eatings off the kids menu at some signature restaurants. (And signature restaurants are a good value under the DxDP).

For example, Narcoose's kids menu includes:
Grilled Top Sirloin Steak - with Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables $12.00

Oven-baked Fish - with mashed potatoes and vegetables $11.00

California Grill includes:
House-made Macaroni and Cheese $8.00

Roasted Salmon - with Basmati Rice and seasonal vegetables $12.00

Oak-fired Steak - with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables $13.00

Grilled Chicken Breast - with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables $10.00

House-made Whole-Wheat Pizza - with provolone cheese $9.00

Upgrading a 9yo to a 10yo really mostly makes sense when it is free dining, and you are sticking to the regular DDP.

2. Only 3 adult meals at a time may be ordered. /QUOTE]

I thought you could use your credits anyway you wanted. :confused3 I will be the only adult on the ddp for my next trip. If I decide to order 2 cs meals at my resort's food court (and save, say, a sandwich meal for later in my room), I can't do that?

There are some reports of it sometimes being allowed. I think the best chance of it being allowed, would be at the resort food court, where you are very clearly simply using the credit for yourself.

The DIS Restaurant Board Moderators reached a decision some time ago that any discussion of trying to get around the written rule Disney has that credits for which a child's price was paid are to be used to order children's meals (with the exception of CS restaurants that do not have a child's menu) will be closed and/or deleted. This decision is based on the existence of a written rule. Whether or not individual cast members follow the written rule is not relevant.

You can order as many adult meals at one time as you have adults on your key card, but it is up to you to use the credits you paid an adult price for to buy adult meals.

The others have answered the other questions - if you have 3 adults you can only order 3 adult meals at a time - but I just want to chime in and say that there is a big difference in price between the adult and the child rate for the DxDP - more than $55 per night. For that amount of money, you could just purchase an extra entree and have money left over.

And, having done the DxDP 3 times now, I don't think you will need to purchase anything additional. Make sure to schedule 2 TS meals a day to get the best variety. The TS options for kids, especially the Signature restaurants - are really good, much, much better than the CS restaurants. It's 'real' food, not just chicken nuggets, and if you look through the menus, you can get good variety. My kids' meals at San Angel Inn could have fed an adult with a regular appetite. One of my kids got the chicken tacos, the other got the beef tacos. The plate had two tacos, nicely filled, and they came with rice, beans, and some very nice crisp green beans. And they also got a spinach salad or a fruit cup and a dessert (they opted for dulce de leche ice cream). As I said earlier, it was real food. That was on top of the appetizer + entree + dessert the adults got. In our experience, there is plenty to 'supplement' kids' meals, if we needed to.

If I could just add a question here instead of starting my own thread.

We are currently considering an upgrade to the DxDp from the DDP after all our reservations are in - lots of character meals and a few signatures. We are there for 10 nights.

We have a 7, 6 and 2 year old (though almost 3) and are wondering if we should up his age to 3 so he can have his own meals. He is not a huge eater, but my girls (7 & 6) might find it a bit old always having to share their meals with him. We have never been to Disneyworld, so also have no idea about portion sizes in comparison to the ones we have here.

If we upgrade to the Deluxe, this is much more credits than we currently need so adding another child onto it (and another 30 credits!) seems a bit crazy.

Does anyone know if we can order 3 children meals at a TS if we only paid for 2 children on the deluxe plan.

No, you cannot order extra meals, but --
At the buffets, your 2 year old can have his own plate.
Plus, on the deluxe, you get appetizers with lunch and dinner.
So with 2 kid appetizers, plus 2 adult appetizers, plus 2 kid entrees, plus 2 adult entrees, plus 4 desserts, I suspect you won't have any trouble assembling a filling plate for the 2 yo.
If truly necessary, you can order an extra kids meal oop. Which would be cheaper than upping him to 3-- remember, if you up him to 3, then you need to buy him a park ticket.
He is already getting into the park for free, and eating at buffets for free.

Wow, I didn't realise the children get appetisers too! It just seems like a crazy amount of food .

Thanks for answering that though :). It seems funny that we will most definitely have credits left over at the end and not have been able to at least used some of the leftover children's meals at our dinners. Luckily I have managed to get a lot of the character buffets. Just have to investigate if upgrading is worthwhile. Thank you.

Wait a minute before you upgrade to DxDDP....the children's apps are NOT adult apps. Take a look at the kids' menus at the TS locations you want to go to. The kids' apps are things like carrot sticks, soup, salad....they are NOT the adult apps.

Instead of upgrading, you may want to see what it would cost to pay OOP for a kids' meal for the younger one or to get an adult app to share at the table. The cost to upgrade ALL of you is quite a bit and you can probably buy an extra kids' meal for a lot less.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying that - I did know they came with carrots etc. I thought it was an additional app.

My problem lies in that the restaurant bookings I've made require 19 credits each person . We get 10 on the DP. We either have to cancel some or pay out of pocket. If we are paying for about 5 TS meals out of pocket it would probably make more sense to upgrade (??) but then it will give us 30 credits, which sounds a bit extreme! We would most probably end up with excess credits, yet my children/us would be sharing meals at every meal.

Apologies OP.

Under the DxDP, you are paying less per credit, than the DDP, while getting more. Thus, it *can* be financially worthwhile, even if not using all your credits.
The general rule of thumb is to use 3/4ths of your credits for TS, to break even.

So, if you had 30 credits per person -- You'd break even under the deluxe plan, if you used approximately 23 TS credits, while also getting some value out of your snacks and remaining credits.
My family typically uses 3 credits per person, per day -- because we usually do a 1-credit lunch, and a 2-credit dinner.
Last trip, we stayed 6 nights -- so had 18 credits per person. I believe we used 15 credits for TS meals, we used 2 for quick CS breakfasts, and we cashed in 1 credit on the last day for extra snacks.

Not sure how you have your credits allocated -- But if you have allocated 2 meals per day, then you might want to scatter around some CS credits for shared some shared meals. (For example, if you are using credits for breakfast and dinners, maybe share a couple CS lunches to hold everyone over until dinner).

As to the children's appetizer --- Children are entitled to an appetizer on the DxDP and on the DDP. At 1-credit restaurants, it's usually just a tiny bag of carrots or grapes, maybe a small bowl of soup. But at 2-credit restaurants, it can be a rather significant appetizer. At California Grill, the only listed kid's app is a salad (but it's a real salad), but I know you can also get a pretty big plate of fruit. At Citrico's, you can get cheese and grapes with crackers, or a bowel of chicken noodle soup, as well as others. Narcoose's offers a Caesar salad. Artist's Point offers a bowl of watermelon.

There's no way I would up my 2 year old to 3 in order to get the DDP. When you advance the age, you have to buy park tickets for them also. For that price, you could buy what food you need for him and still have alot of $$ leftover.
