(CLOSED)>> The One And Only Refillable Mug FAQ and Questions Thread (No Debate) <<

Refillable mugs are only good for one vacation. I don't think that is ever going to change, as the RFID chips are being used to prevent this.
Well don't forget as of right now the RFID chips are only being tested at the Quick Service location at All Star Sports, so there is no guarantee those types of mugs will be used at the other Quick Service locations at the other WDW Resorts. They could decide that the system doesn't work and get rid of it for good.

Right, but my point is that since they are actively trying to combat the use of the same mug over multiple trips, it's reasonable to assume that they are not going to do a 180 and sell lifetime mugs.

However, I can see them selling a new sticker with an RFID chip in it to put on an old mug. They can market it as being environmentally friendly. I wouldn't expect it to me much (if at all) cheaper than buying a new mug, though.

Is it true you can't fill these mugs with milk, they are only good for soda? What the heck?

Last week I was at All Star Sports and bought a mug with rfid. It was a little difficult to use with some of the soda options. I drink sprite zero and had a hard time getting it to work. They are very touchy also the coke zero gave people problems. i asked the cm for help because I thought it was just out of sprite and she ignored me. Another day I asked another cm and she said that they have been having trbl with those 2 buttons. The first time my daughter filled her cup it did not go all the way to the top and so she tried to put in more and it said she had to wait 2 1/2 minutes to refill again. Later in the week as I was filling my mug one of the evening managers was asking some girls where they got there mugs because they were not able to use the machine and they said at Music and they were told sorry but they would not work here. I asked the cm why they did not do all 3 resorts since they were sister resorts and she said they just wanted to try them at 1 resort to see how it worked out and they are still working out the bugs. It originally had a 5 minute wait to refill also when you get your drink a small square pops up that says your mug is good for 2 weeks in my case it showed the date of 2 weeks later.

Can anyone tell me if the Boardwalk Inn offers Powerade at the refill stations? My daughter will be running several miles every day during our stay and needs her Powerade or Gatorade.
Nope, not that I have seen. Coke soda products only.

They used waaaaaaaaaaay back. I think those lifetime mugs won't work once the RFID system is in place everywhere though. I guess they're lifetime-until-Disney-changes-things mugs. :confused3
As with everything at WDW......there is usually signage that says 'subject to change'...and that was the case with the 'goof forever' mugs. I have four of them..not sweating the fact that I most likely won't be able to use them again...never did to begin with. Those stopped being offered, pretty much, in '99/'00.

Milk is much more expensive than soda...so, no, no milk for refill mugs. Sorry.

I looked through a few pages (sorry for not looking through all of them!), and I just was wondering where/how do you pick up the refillable mug you get with the dining plan?

Thanks

I either heard on a podcast or read on here where a person emailed Disney about the lifetime mug. The letter stated that Disney would honor the mug.

The mugs are available for purchase in the quick service area of each resort, for example, at Pop Century they are inside Everything Pop. At deluxe resorts I think the mugs may be available in a few different places, for example, at Yacht and Beach Club there are a few different places where refillable mugs are used, like at Hurricane Hanna's and the Beach Club Marketplace.

When you select your mugs you go to the cash register and you use your Key To The World (KTTW) card just like when you purchase entrees or snacks with the dining plan. Like the table service, quick service, and snack credits, if your dining plan includes a refillable mug then there are credits on there too for the mugs.

If Disney makes the changeover to the chips in all the mugs, then there will have to be some kind of proceedure to allow the 'forever' mugs to be used at the dispensers. Without that chip, they won't work.

I've heard officially from Disney that they did not have "forever" mugs. I guess it is just who responds to your message.

I guess the biggest problem would be how do you prove you have a "forever" mug? It isn't written on the mug. You'd have to have some sort of certificate or something.

Truth. And it's pretty cool, how it all works. We did notice that you can still get coffee, hot chocolate, water and iced tea with any kind of mug you want, even though the soda is only available with the chipped mug.

I also noticed that the disposable coffee cups and soda cups were under lock and key behind the registers.

Not even milk for coffee or tea, which is too bad - I'm not a fan of the half and half in my tea, and non dairy creamer is beyond yucky.

Ah, well.

Help me understand the logic behind the WDW mug policy. If I am not on any dining plan I purchase a mug at the resort I am staying at for $14.49. I understand that the mug has writing on it that says you can only use it at the resort where the mug was purchased. No problem.

Now if I am on the quick service or deluxe dining plan in 2011, or will be on any of the 3 plans in 2012 I get the same mug for "free". The mug has the same wording on it (only good at the resort...), but because my mug was "free" I can use it at any of the quick service locations in the 20+ WDW hotels. This just doesn't make any sense to me, in that after spending $ 14.49 for a mug (and for a family of 4 we are now at $58 +Tax) we are penalized for not being on any of the dining plans.

I would be interested in hearing from other posters if they agree with this logic, or am I missing something that invalidates my reasoning.

No, this isn't quite right.

ANY mug, whether purchased on a dining plan or with cash, is ONLY good at the resort where it was purchased.

well, while mostpeople (including cms) beleive it's fine to use your mugs at the other resorts, since you are choosing to use your DDP credits there, it really doesn't matter becasue your CS crediits come with a HUGE drink anyway.

BTW, it is not written on the mug, but at the refill stations. and the intention is that you not bring the mug back on future trips,.So, it is fine to use it at your 2nd or 3rd resort on the same vacation.

if the new chips become resort wide, I will have no problem showing my receipt for my mug, purchase at the beginning of the trip, and my reservation sheet, showing I am stillon the same Disney vacation. I am sure a manager will do whatever necessary to allow us to continue to fill our mugs. I'm sure the same will hold true for those whose trip extends past 2 weeks... of course Disney wants you tostay as long as possible! and spend more money staying at more expensive resorts instead of restricting your single vacation to one value resort.

Ok thanks for the info. Now if I am getting this right, assume I am on a dining plan at the CR, so I get a "free mug". I go to the Poly to eat at Captain Cooks, but I can't use my my mug there. But because I have credits from the dining plan, I assume that at C.Cooks they give me a paper cup for my drink, as surely I am not expected to pay for the soda.

If this is correct, and most people who are on dining plans don't eat exclusively at their home resort, what is the point of WDW giving out 'free" mugs, if you can only use them at one location?

well, carlton I (and many others) do not believe that was the intention. (and some will disagree, oh well) they changed from resort specific mugs to generic mugs a while ago, and I have brought my mug to another resort if I am pool hopping (legally, of course, ie. staying at music and swimming at movies, of staying at riverside and swimming at FQ. etc. IF I want to try a dif. quick service location, example, go get beignets at FQ for breakfast, and am not of the DDP, I will bring my mug I paid for for this trip. it's the bringing it back trip after trip that ruined it, and esp people filling up jugs, 7 eleven mugs, etc.
but the CS credits on the ddp do come with a drink, so no worry about that! (whenever we used ou food court on the plan, we would use our mugs for our drink, and the drink credit for a soda to use in the room for a "mix" for a cocktail!!!:yay:

For the person who wanted a purple mug - the AS Sports RFID chip mugs are green, orange, and purple handled. So go to ASsp and get your pretty mug.

Al the other resorts have the Yellow, blue, pink, and black. Not seeing yellow out for sale very often any more, though.
