Costco membership going up.

Just read on Yahoo that Costco is going to raise it's membership fees to $55.00 as of November 1st. Don't think I'll be renewing at that price. I already have a Sam's membership which I just renewed at $40.00, and Sam's is much closer for me. The best part of the article is that is stated its 4th quarter profits were up 11%. I just can't justify it anymore. My waistline and bank account will thank me. Those samples are dangerous. LOL

I have my renewal for November and it says I owe $50 to renew, so maybe the increase is for new memberships? Not sure.

I just renewed at $50, glad I did.

Even at $55 I would have renewed it. We buy a lot of meats and dairy and other stores just can't beat costco prices and quality on those items.

Glad I just renewed, although next year....will have to think about Sam's. They are both close to us, but Sam's is cheaper!

Since that's less than an extra .42 cents per month, I think I will be renewing my Costco card even if it does go up to $55 per year. It's still worth it to me.:thumbsup2

FYI - Membership fees are where Costco and other membership stores make the majority of their profits.

Costco's membership fees will increase 10% as of 1 November, the first time fees have been raised in 5 years. It seems reasonable to me. BJ's raised their fees from $45 to $50 last January.

We joined in something like '02 (maybe a year or two later). The membership fee has been the same since we joined. I think I'm OK with the increase.

We will still renew even with the price increase. The closest store is an hour from my house but my mom and I make trips every other month as we love the meats. I have a Sams membership as well but think that I will let that one lapse at the end of the year. Don't go there enought to justify the cost

Really? BJs did? I just renewed for $40.

I pay the $100 fee for Costco so I'll keep renewing at that rate.

I just read this http://business.financialpost.com/2011/10/05/costco-raises-membership-fees-after-profit-miss/ which says the Executive Rate will now be $110.

I'll definitely be renewing mine. I got my Disney Trip Package through there and it was a good deal. Anyone else do this?

It's been $50 since I joined so a $5 increase seems reasonable to me. I save tons at Costco so it's more than worth it.

We have the executive membership which currently costs $100.

I'll still renew if it goes up to $110 b/c with the executive membership I get 2% back on all purchases .... so far, I always rec'd a check for more than $100 ... so my membership fee is $0

That's a good deal but that means you spend like $5000/yr there. We spend like $2000 tops.

Each year Dh and I go back and forth about whether or not to renew the Costco membership. We just don't find a lot to buy there.

My renewal is next month that I just received in the mail and it was $50 - even if it did go up I would still renew. Costco is the only place I buy my meat here.

Me too! At first I debated on whether to do the executive membership but each year we have gotten back our member fee plus some.

Milk, meat, gas, desserts -- love them and their prices! And we usually have one big ticket item each year, esp around the holidays or summer.

Our renewal is coming up soon, too. Hope it's the same but if not, $10 is acceptable to me, considering they haven't raised in years.

Us too! I love Costco! So many things at the same or less than other places and we have executive membership as well so the fee is more than covered each year.

We have the executive membership, too. Signed up for the first time last May. We were told that come April, if we don't at least break even and get back the extra $50 we can cancel and get a refund. So there's no loss to try and see how we'll come out at renewal time. Even if we save $10, it would be worth it. Just bought DH tires at Costco for his truck for $800, and our 3rd car needs tires, so the money adds up quickly.
