Hello! I am new to this board :wizard:

First, I hope this is the correct section. It seemed the most appropriate to what I am posting but I could be wrong.

Anyways, DBF and I are going to MNSSHP (Probably October 30th, but we aren't sure yet. There are 5 of them during our trip!)

I am going to go as Rapunzel from Tangled. If I have time to make it, I will make him a costume so that he can be Flynn Ryder princess:

Anyways, this is us:

This is Rapunzel's dress:

This is my progress so far:

The fabric is just cut out and pinned together. I haven't sewn a stitch yet! That is today's project, to start sewing.

This is a closeup on the fabric:

The pink flower printed fabric wasn't what I wanted, it's too pink and not enough purple and I used exactly the same fabric on the skirt panel and the bustier, but it was the best I could do after spending at least 10 hours in different fabric stores (I went to five of them! Two JoAnn's and 3 separate independent stores...I didn't shop online because I wanted to see and feel the fabric in person, and requesting a sample would have taken too long) In the end, it's not like I am competing in some fancy costume competition where my fabric choice will be scrutinized so I'm not too worried about it. I'm just sad it isn't very purple! lol!

For the wig, I bought four separate wigs and am going to attempt a tutorial I found on the internet for making a wig for the braided version of her hair that she wears in the end of the movie.

This is the wig, all four exactly the same one:

This is what I am going to do with the wigs:

Anyways that's all I have for now! I look forward to posting my progress!

Well my last post was only 4 hours ago but this is what I have done since then:

The skirt is almost done. I need to shorten it, add lace to the hem, and I will do embroidery last, depending on how much time I have when I finish everything else.

Awesome job! The fabic I think is very pretty... and it goes well together! I am sure no one will mistake you for another character or say "hey that's not the fabric in the movie!"

It looks super awesome! And you seem to be having fun with it! That's all that matters:thumbsup2

Love it! I can't wait to see it done.

Also, DBF will make a great Flynn Rider. He has Flynn's eyes! :)

I LOVE your dress so far and I'm incredibly jealous! I think you should carry a frying pan... LOL!

Please keep us updated on your progress as you work on the costume. I would love to see the final look.

There's nothing I love more than the marriage of Disney+sewing!

Thanks for the encouragement and kind words everybody!

I did some more this week. I have a good portion of the top done! Here it is so far:

All in all it is coming along nicely...

This is what I have left to do:

Top: Sew lace on the bottom, re-do some of the eyelets, attach the long sleeves

Skirt: Shorten and hem it, decide what I am going to do for the design (embroider or fabric paint...embroidery would be nicer but I don't know if I have the patience lol!)

I also need to make the petticoat.

I started working on some parts for the wig but I need my main four wigs to come in the mail before I can really go to town on that part of the project, lol!

I haven't got any shoes yet...she doesn't wear shoes in the movie so it's all up to me! Whoo!

I was thinking pink ballet flats.

They have these at Target:

Hello! I have an update, whoo!

I've been workin' pretty hard on my costume.

The top is mostly finished, right now I am just sewing on the long sleeves-but besides that it is DONE! Whoo! I need to iron it though, because I accidentally sewed some of the boning backwards and it is wonky lol...hopefully ironing fixes it, or I will have to re-do that part!

I also took apart the entire skirt last night, and added two panels to it. I thought it was too "stiff" and not "flowy" enough. And, I also found this lacy fabric that was the exact same color as the purple satin I used. So, I bought that and layered it on top of the contrasting layer on the skirt. I'm really happy about this, because now it is more accurate to her dress! Whoo! As you can see in the pictures of her dress, the fabric on the skirt is a bit darker than on her shirt. Now it's not completely the same color...

I get to work on the wig soon too :) They all came in the mail yesterday. I had them shipped to my parents house, though, because I have two kittens...and trust me....it's hard enough trying to SEW with kittens around. I don't want to think about the destruction they would cause when they see 4 wigs hanging around LOL. So I will be working on that at my parents house when I visit them...

Anyways this is the back...you can see the lace and buttons and zipper lol.

Thank you everyone for the nice replies...I can't wait until it is done either, lol! I went to my parent's house to get the wigs yesterday and OMG THEY ARE HORRIBLE! They were NOT the color of the picture, they were this awful yellow/orange color and I sure am lucky the seller takes returns because there is NO WAY they will work for this costume. I contacted another seller on ebay and asked if they could give me a small price break since I want to purchase 5 wigs from them. The color is MUCH better, but the wig isn't as long and looks a little thinner so I would need an extra wig.

This is the wig I am looking at...see how you can see the lacing in the wig? It shouldn't be a big deal since I will have 5 of them with plenty of fibers to cover up any bald spots, and a huge amount of fake flowers to also fill in. I am just in PANIC MODE right now, totally freaking out...

There are other wigs that I like better but I need to buy from somebody in the US so that I can be sure it won't get caught up in customs and take forever to ship, and I also need to keep the price under $80. I am already temporarily out $80 from the last round of wigs I bought. It will be refunded once I return them but that's going to be a couple weeks :(

AHHH...lol I am totally freaking out here.

I might get this one. It would put me over my budget by about $20 but hey 20 bucks is 20 bucks...I can deal without it. I will go to the grocery store today and cash in all my change at the change machine so I can buy my wigs today, LOL.

I hope these ebay sellers write back to me soon. I am leaning more towards the second wig, but the seller doesn't say anything about combined shipping and they want $7 for each wig...I asked if they could do the $10 flat rate priority mail box. That way I know I will have it this weekend or the beginning of next week. I am really freaking out here! LOL

Oh my gosh! it's gorgeous! I wish I could make my own costume!

Thank you so much!

It's not that hard to make your own costume. I took some sewing classes when I was in middle school, but it is easy to learn on your own too. Just start from small, easy projects-like pajama pants! Pajama pants are probably the easiest thing to start with, and they are something everyone can use. Start with easy stuff like that and work your way up!

Anyways here is my update for today...

I started Brian's Flynn Rider costume! Whoo! I was admittedly too cheap to buy the pattern I wanted since it cost $15, so I just had him try on a t-shirt that he doesn't wear anymore and it fit...so with his permission, I cut it up and used it as a base for the vest pattern LOL.

Here it is so far:

This is what it should look like when finished:
draft_lens13840301module122946341photo_1285840792Tunic.jpg

when he gets home tonight, I am going to have him try it on and hope it fits...I'll adjust what needs to be adjusted and then I plan on adding the cuffs and the collar and hemming the bottom. I'll buy all the little clasps and rivets etc this weekend. I am going to try to just purchase pants and a shirt for him. For the boots, I am just going to buy some faux leather fabric and make slipcovers to pin onto his pants that will attach to his brown dress shoes. Hopefully they look good, but I don't want to spend much money on boots that he will literally only wear once or twice.

My dress is going pretty good now...all I have to finish is putting sleeves on the top and complete the embroidery on the skirt. I am about 1/3 of the way finished on the embroidery!

I ended up ordering some new wigs and they shipped yesterday...from ANAHEIM! It's either fate or coincidence but it's like they are meant to be connected to Disney!

I added the collar and sleeves to the vest! Whoo!

I went to buy the shoes I put in an earlier post in this thread and they are sold out in my size, I am devastated! I'm going to have to go to the mall this weekend. I can't really find anything I like quite as much online, so I'll check stores in person. I still have another week to try to buy something on the internet, though....

Is anyone who is reading this going to an upcoming MNSSHP or has been to one already this year?! All the posts on the main board about how crowded and terrible it has been are freaking me out :scared1::scared1::scared1:

This is my first MNSSHP and the reason I booked the trip for the time I booked it was because I wanted to go to MNSSHP...I hope it is still fun!
