Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

I am traveling with a group of six people. We received six luggage tags, but have seven bags. What is the best way to handle this so that all seven bags are picked up by DME?

Thanks.
Call DME directly at 866-599-0951 and request an additional tag. It's that simple!

Does anyone know if they still send the tags to overseas guests ? We haven't received any in the past 5 or 6 trips... which is kind of annoying. For some reason it always takes forever to get our bags at MCO and then we have to take them downstairs & on the bus... we lose valuable time.

I know they're supposed to be able to pick up your bags using your luggage claim tickets but the one time I did that, the bag never got picked up and I ended up having to pay Southwest to deliver it.

Nope, international flights don't get the tags. Sorry.

That's not cool though. We pay the same as everybody else, don't get the "welcome packet" until we check in and now we don't even get the tags for DME. I guess Mickey can't afford the stamps anymore. :sad2:

I have a US mailing address though, do you think they'd send us the mail there ? Really need those tags this time. Our arrival night is our one & only chance to see Wishes the entire trip.

The issue is going to be customs. You have to take your bags there, in person. No way around it. Now, perhaps you can have the packet sent to your US address, then get it sent to you somehow. Then, when you get to MCO and have gone through customs, you can put the tags on and let DME take care of them. But, I'm not sure if that is going to save you any time. You still have to go through customs...may as well keep your bags with you.
In fact, if you're in a rush to get to your resort (and then to MK), I would just hire a car service. Much faster.

Yeah I was thinking about getting FL Tours to pick us up again. It would be worth it IMO but not sure if the rest of my "party" will agree.

We are not going through customs in Orlando though, we'll do that a couple hours before, in Miami. What we would do usually was keep the tags until we got through Customs in MIA and put them on just before giving the bags to be re-checked for our second flight. Just so they don't get ripped on the first (long) flight.

When do you normally receive the DME tags? We still have over a month remaining but I like to be prepared :) Thanks for your help!

Usually about 4 weeks prior to travel. If you don't have your DME packet in hand by 3 weeks prior, call them directly. Do NOT call Disney, call DME. Disney will not give you accurate info. DME will. They can see if you are in the system correctly. If not, they can make any changes and get out a new packet to you.

If I have a 6:05am flight out of MCO when we leave Disney, then how will the DME work for me or will I be left to my own devices. I would think that like any other time you have to be at the bus stop 3 hours before your flight but I want to make sure that someone will be there at 3am lol. I don't want to wait for nothing. I assume that I will not be able to do RAC either as they will not be there too. Will I have to arrange for a Mears ride to MCO and pay for it? Hope not as that will kinda defeat the DME thing for me but whatever. I am locked into this 6am hell because of flight prices but whatever....:confused3

DME buses run 24/7. If your flight is at 6:05am, you will get picked up around 3ish. No, RAC isn't an option...it isn't for anyone with a flight earlier than 8:15/8:30am. The RAC counter doesn't even open until 5am, and you have to have your bags checked, boarding passes in hand, no less than 3 hrs prior to flight departure time.
Be sure you book your return ride with DME. The day before, you will receive an envelope with your pickup time listed in the paperwork. Be out at the bus stop about 15 mins prior to the pick up time.

Just got our tags in the mail and I have a question (I tried searching the thread but didn't find an answer).

I thought in the past our resort reservation number was on the tags. This set of tags has two sets of 12-digit numbers under our arrival date, neither of which is anything related to our resort confirmation number, which is an 8 character alpha-numeric.:confused3

Has this changed recently or do I need to worry. Our names, dates, resort and flight numbers are correct.

ETA: Update - I ended up calling down to check. Turns out those numbers are my DME ressie number and the luggage number. She said that for packages, your resort confirmation will not appear on the tags but if you have a room-only your resort ressie number would be on the tags (which must've been what I was thinking of because last trip we were room-only).

Ok. This will probably be the dumbest question on this topic. We have four in our party. They were supposed to send us two tags each. E got four. But they are long and half the tag is identical to the top half. Are we supposed to cut the tags in half to make eight and then attach them?

They didn't say to cut them in half and I don't want to mess them up.

TIA

Do not cut them. You have to call them and ask for extra because they only send one per person now. I think they'll send you as many as you need.

No - do not cut them. They only send one tag per person. Call Magical Express and they will send extras. I had did this last summer. They do seem long but that is the way they work.

As aleady posted, DME sends out only 1 luggage tag pp now. Since checked baggage fees went through the roof, DME made the decision to send just one tag since the huge majority of people would be checking just one bag.

You can cut them in two...but you have to be very careful. They are designed to work a certain way. If you make it so that the scanner can't scan the reservation number properly, your bags may not make it to your resort in a timely fashion. So, be very careful.

Or, just try to get away with one checked bag each and a carryon with the excess in it.

I should have read these posts sooner!! I am short 1 tag and we leave Tuesday AM. Am I just going to have to go to the baggage claim and get the odd bag? I also am VERY apprehensive about cutting a tag. Thanks!
