Coming to Reverse Maleficent's Curse! A 16th Birthday to Disneyland PTR (COMPLETE)

Your plans sound good so far! Yes, the Disneyland version of POTC is definitely better than the WDW one. Indiana Jones is awesome. Not quite as scary as Dinosaur which is a good thing. haha And California Screamin' is great too. I was afraid of the loops too at first but it's really not that bad.

Oh that makes a ton more sense now. I had watched one of the Travel Channel specials on the current DLR and the new expansions they were having like the change in theme for the front area and Cars Land. I really wish that would've been opened for when I go, but when I go again with family, maybe it will be :confused3 And I think I saw the new "Partners statue", it looks very cool, really kinda connects the two parks in a way :teeth:

Glad it helps to look at it that way! I've had my own reservations about all the construction from the time I first heard about it to now. Learning a little more about Walt's history (again, thanks to the Walt Disney Family Museum in SF) it's getting easier to really appreciate what they are trying to do. Personally I'm not interested in the whole Cars Land though, haha. At least by the time you are there a lot of the construction should be winding down. Just use it as an excuse to make sure you come back someday.

And you know what the best part about the new statue will be? It won't be surrounded by a flower bed so you can really get your photo with it!

That's pretty awesome. My StarKid goes only as far as AVPM and AVPS. I have yet to watch the other two. I'll probably watch Starship soon. I've never heard of Slamaganza or maybe I'm just having a weird blank, but it is pretty awesome when people mention stuff from the StarKid shows :goodvibes Day=Made

Oh man, you have to watch Starship! It's just amazing. And it doesn't hurt that the video quality isn't all dinky. I especially love all of the Disney (and Glee) references. And the Slamaganza was a fundraising thing they did in Chicago recently. ;)

Oops, gotta go! Happy planning!

Thanks! :-) I've read Jack Spence from AllEars's comparison of the two parks and he made it quite clear POTC is much better in DLR than in WDW. I really am trying to stay away from the YouTube ride-throughs now lol ;) DINOSAUR really wasn't very scary in the first place though I think the worst part is when some parts of the ride are not working and everything just feels out-of-place. Though I think the fact Indy is a bigger pop icon makes it better in my eyes already :D I'm really starting to not worry about it too much, but if my friends try to force us to the front... there is just NO WAY, my 16th birthday party, my rules.

I really wish I could go check that museum out, since I actually did a project on Walt Disney about... 6 years ago for school, so I already have some basic knowledge about him. It's kinda faded away, but now that I'm more of a Disney Freak now than then, it seems like I want to know more, so that looks like my chance. If we go to SF for the two weeks my mom wants to do with the family in SoCal, I will drag them there, no doubt about it. Oh wow, really? I'm not a big fan of the movie, but the Radiator Springs Racers sound like a great ride. I mean, it is copying my favorite ride from EPCOT in WDW, Test Track, but maybe it will be better, having been made twice.

Oh, that's awesome! I think I'm getting a few photo ideas running through my head now lol

I've heard a lot of good things and I know some of my favorite actors and actresses (particularly Lauren Lopez) have big roles in this one, so that makes me happy. And that's good they've made the video quality better. Omg! I love their Disney references, my favorite line from AVPS is (when Lupin is teaching all the kids about a patronus)...

"What you have to think of is a wonderful thought, a great thought..."

"Any happy little thought?!"

I was dying of laughter :lmao: Too, to funny.

Oh yeah, I just saw a video of that on the Starkid YouTube page, so awesome. This is random, but I heard they may possibly be making a sequel to AVPS, but are trying to fit rehearsals and the production within Darren's schedule, because you can't have the show without him. This makes me quite excited :-)

Thanks! I will have to start looking at flights and more prices this weekend, so I can calculate how much it will cost for my mom and I. :thumbsup2

Lauren is hilarious. They all are. I wont lie, I'm a huge Joey Richter fan thanks to AVPM/AVPS and his character in Starship was awesome too. I just love seeing the blue headband come back though. Starship has a couple of newbies as well though who are awesome. And Dylan Saunders is just totally awesome (oh, and Lupin can sing, FYI). Heck, the whole thing is amazing. They really outdid themselves with the whole thing.

And yes, there is lots of talk about them doing a threequel! Like you said it really revolves around Darren's schedule - and there's an awesome line in Starship about that. They aren't giving out any concrete details other than that they are working on it. A little or a lot we don't know.

She's best as Malfoy, I mean... I don't think if they ever got this published for other use, you could NEVER EVER beat her. She is just so funny. And yeah, they definitely all are, but she's my favorite. I'm not a big Joey Richter fan, though I loved his Redvine lines :lmao: And yeah, the blue headband is awesome :teeth: No, Lupin can't sing, Lupin can't sing, Lupin CANNOT sing ;) I can't wait to see Starship now.

I'm so excited for it. I wonder how they are going to fit it in the storyline, I'm guessing it won't be a Prequel like AVPS :/ Though it's going to be awesome anyways. I'm guessing this will have elements of Chamber of Secrets, Half-Blood Prince and (hopefully) more of Order of the Phoenix. I really hope they are able to fit it into Darren's schedule. Blaine needs to be on Glee and Harry needs to be in AVP(?) lol I'm going to be so excited when they let us know about the concrete details. :goodvibes

You must ride some of the roller coasters Timmy.

I totally am, you can make sure of that :thumbsup2

If I may interject, you may want to reverse the order of your plans. You may find that Hollywood Boulevard is a letdown after visiting the only theme park in the world personally designed by Walt Disney himself. And at least for me, that area of Hollywood is just a bunch of stars with famous people's names on the sidewalk. If you're going to that area, take the time to see a movie at the El Capitan. If you're lucky, Disney will be showing a classic film at that time that you can't see in theaters anymore. Make sure to get there 20-30 minutes early to hear the organist play before the movie starts.

And I second the park hopper option. With the two parks so close together, it's really easy to parkhop.

Just thought you'd like to know that I just figured out that you have a new PTR and I'm rejoining.

:welcome:, Glad you could join in! :-)

I'm sure it won't be anything like Disney, I know that already, but I walk into everything with an open-mind (well... try to ;)), so I'm definitely looking for to it. There looks like a lot of stuff to do on the Hollywood Boulevard and so much I don't know about yet; there's a lot of anticipation building for that half, but as is for everything. :-) Ooooo... that's so cool, I would love to see a classic film, I'll have to take note of that :goodvibes

We'll have to see. Is it possible to update your park tickets to PHs like in WDW? Because the system at DLR definitely seems different, so I have to ask. :D

Just thought you'd like to know that I just figured out that you have a new PTR and I'm rejoining.

:welcome:, glad you could re-join in! lol

The other PTR is still open, because I'm probably going to re-use it if we go in... 2013 to WDW, and it also is convenient for some and I don't want to just shut it down only getting so far, also the DLR experts are here so that helps.

HERE YOU LEAVE TODAY AND ENTER INTO THE WORLD OF YESTERDAY, TOMORROW AND FANTASY

Yup, I've just managed again to get in another update here. We'll start with some of the real planning. At the moment, I'm looking into flights to California. I'm taking the advice of not going to LAX at the best of my ability, though I did find decent prices from Logan to LAX through JetBlue, but Southwest, my preferred airline, has not released prices for the time I will be going to Cali, so I'm waiting for those. Though, we may end up having to go through LAX on JetBlue because it is a LONG flight and those TVs definitely help past the time, but Southwest is more efficient and we have other forms of entertainment with us... I just don't know at this point, but I have their apps on my iPod, so I will be checking regularly to see if we can get a good flight into SNA from Southwest :thumbsup2

Another piece of news, that I forgot to mention on my last update is... Jocelyn is no longer coming with us :( I sent out a message about it and even mentioned it to her at school, but she seemed to shrug it off. Ever since I was asking for so much for the WDW trip and her trip to WDW coming soon, this will just take too much out of her pocket. So, this trip will consist of my mom, myself and Nate. I'm not sure if there will be a fourth person on this trip to accompany my mom, and balance it out, even though I like this arrangement, having just one friend. I'll keep you posted on that.

Now onto the real update...

Since I've already mentioned the plans, I guess I will start by going more in depth on the rides I wish to go on at the parks and I guess I'll start with a mix of Fantasyland and Main Street USA.

First is Main Street USA...

dl05.jpg

This I find is an attraction within itself. I never paid much attention to the one at MK, having being pulled into the directions of such lands as Tomorrowland, Liberty Square and Frontierland, but I want to really look at this one. It looks a lot bigger than WDW's and has more to see than shops and the M&G that takes up most of the space. Here, it more-so celebrates Walt's hometown and brings a better feel of his presence, along with celebrating his company itself in the Cinema and such. I'm quite excited to really enjoy this often ignored attraction.

Now, we enter into Fantasyland, which based on reading about the attractions has a lot more to offer and is more eye-catching than WDW's, so this will be a long list. So let's begin...

Dumbo

dumbo_2004huffman.jpg

To be soon moved from WDW into a different Fantasyland, but not from here, no sirree! It will be here no matter what and when I will most likely never get a chance to ride it in it's original form and place flying high above Fantasyland, giving me a chance to get some beautiful shots of the place :teeth: I just hope I can get everyone on it since I've passed over it on my last two visits.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

disneyland320.jpg

For my riding pleasure, I have found the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, long and forgotten at WDW, but well and alive at DLR. Ever since I heard this was originally at MK where my beloved Winnie the Pooh now stands, I got curious. Too bad, it no longer stands, having been a bit more unique than the DL version, but just to experience this one is enough for me. Oh, I get so excited to ride it just thinking about it!

Alice In Wonderland

8aAlice.jpg

One ride completely unique to DLR, of course I'm going to ride it! It also gives me more reason to watch the movie again since it has been sometime since I've been able to go down that rabbit hole once more. I remember it was such a colorful and creative movie that the ride must be just the same, very bright and engaging.

Pinocchio's Daring Journey

AAC110.jpg

Another ride unique to DLR, and one based on Pinocchio! Jiminy Cricket has to be one of my favorite characters and it seems Pinocchio isn't very well recognized in most Disney Parks, but to find it here... that's good enough for me! Something to not coincide too much with the "copies" in WDW.

Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk-Through Tour

2CastleEntrance.jpg

I'm very excited for this, I mean to actually go up into the Castle, symbolizing the original Disney park for so many years, that's just too cool. If only they had this in WDW... well, at least there is CRT and the CC suite. Still, this will definitely be a fun experience for me being Sleeping Beauty was my childhood favorite.

It's A Small World

disneyland-060.jpg

Though they do have basically an exact copy of this in WDW, there are differences and that facade! Oh my gosh, to get a picture of it. WOW! It is just so beautiful. I also like the fact that it starts outside rather than inside and you can watch the little pre-show they have while you wait :goodvibes So much to look forward to for this one.

Matterhorn Bobsleds

Matterhorn%2001.jpg

A lot of history behind this ride... original steel coaster, first coaster to have two trains on the track, first coaster at Disneyland, etc. etc. There are also are two sides to it which follow very different tracks and a splash down at the end. Looks like it's very fun, though it is old, but I'm very excited to check out this new coaster.

Storybook Land Canal Boats

notgone_monstro.jpg

Monstro, probably the big reason why I want to go on it. Like most kids my age, I watched the Disneyland sing-a-long video than went to WDW wondering why everything was so different, well most things and this was one that stood out to me the most. It also seems like just a very cute little tour like Jungle Cruise.

And that rounds all those out and still there are many FL rides I didn't mention which I may end up on, like the Mad Tea Party or something. We'll just have to see how quickly we get through things at the parks.

For now and hopefully all the time,

Have a Magical Day!

:maleficen

Check out Peter Pan's Flight as well. Most people, including WDW Radio host Lou Mongello think Disneyland has the better version of the classic and beloved attraction. Take note that Disneyland does not offer fastpass for Peter Pan's Flight, so make sure you ride it first thing in the morning immediately after the park opens.

Also, I recommend Storybook Land at night. It may be my favorite Fantasyland ride period, and it takes on a whole new dimension at night. You can see the jewels gleaming in the Seven Dwarfs mine.

If you can swing it, stay until Disneyland closes, especially if it closes at midnight. You can do a lot of rides in that last hour because most guests have left for the day.

The Castle walkthrough is one of Disneyland's hidden treasures. And unlike the very, very expensive options at the MK, it doesn't cost anything extra to walk inside the castle.

Dang, this update is making me want to go back to Disneyland even more. It really is amazing how much stuff there is in the DL Fantasyland. The Matterhorn is a classic-I loved that one. I think the DL version of IASW is a lot longer, not to mention it starts outside (there are actually a few rides that start outside at DL) and they added Disney characters to it.

I never enjoyed it so much at WDW, but if it really is better maybe I'll enjoy it at DLR... hmmm... I guess I'll add it to the list now :teeth:

Oh, that's so cool! I am totally making note of that. I wonder if we can get a boat to ourselves :goodvibes

I will definitely be staying until closing. That's how I usually work. No breaks, no sleep, the park for the whole day :-)

That's probably the best part! Like, I can understand paying for the things inside Cinderella Castle, since it's a meal offered by Disney and then a hotel room, so obviously it's going to cost money, but then this being a separate attraction, just makes it that much better.

Well, maybe you should, Sarah, maybe you should, I'll probably even be going back in the summer after this, if we end up not seeing my cousins :D I know right! That Matterhorn is definitely something I can't wait to do, though I'm hoping we don't have to end up doing the sitting on each others laps thing to fill more space. I want a comfortable ride. Yeah, I have a feeling since a lot of the scenes they show on TV on those Seasons of Disney specials, show more scenes and I love that they added Disney characters. I will try to catch pictures of all of them if I go on more than once :thumbsup2

Peter Pan's Flight at Disneyland has more detail in the ride itself. The story is basically the same, but there's a lot more to see in Anaheim. Overall, that is true of Disneyland's Fantasyland, which is far superior to the one in the MK.

I'm interested to see how much the expansion changes the MK. It will help the overall experience, but I'm not yet convinced that the additions will elevate the MK's Fantasyland to be on par with Disneyland's. Disneyland will still have a larger number of unique attractions.

I ride Storybook Land at least one time per visit, but rarely in the daylight. Even when it was with my entire family of 7, we never had a boat all to ourselves even in the last hour the park is open.

Be aware that if the park closes early (as opposed to midnight, that last hour will generally be crowded.

I’m wracking my brain but I remember Snow White’s Scary Adventures at DLR actually being scary!
Peter Pan’s Flight is definitely better and if you’re going on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride? Read up or watch the movie The Wind in The Willows. First rode it in original format in 1955! Still loved it 40+ years later. Pinocchio's Daring Journey scared my kids when they were small.

The park is all about optical illusion. Buildings look taller than they are and everything looks bigger than it really is. The castle is much smaller than WDW, Main Street has more character but not sure that it's bigger. Even Fantasyland's buildings transport you back in time to a small European village. I just did NOT get that same vibe at WDW MK Maybe World Showcase is comparable for detail. I think that’s why I enjoyed WWOHP so much at IOA, the same attention to detail as DLR.

I mentioned Astro Orbiter being different? The difference is the view from above.
I won't tell you too much in detail on the actual rides because I want you to discover it all for yourself.
But I WILL tell you that there is a great guide book that gives a lot of tips and hints that for some reason a lot of people seem to ignore. Birnbaum's Disneyland.

I personally love the feel of Disneyland and having so many attractions in the same park with others close by in the other park. The feel is that you are actually IN a Frontier town, in New Orleans(and I've been to the real one) going into one of the iconic mansions there, or on the Bayou with the Spanish Moss hanging from the trees just like it did when we went to visit a Southern Mansion on the outskirts of NO.
Just keep the open mind you have, don't make the inevitable comparisons and remember bigger doesn't make it better. Just makes it further to walk with a chance of more blisters.:rotfl2:

Have you seen any photos of it since they had to put up some temporary safety things that have pretty much ruined the outside portion of the track (visually)? It could be a pretty big shock if you go to the ride for the first time and it looks a lot different than you had seen. They had to add railings and stuff, and without closing the ride until permanent additions could be made they shut it down for a short period of time and added the temporary stuff that's been around for the last year. I can't wait until the day they are able to come up with something much better than what they have now. The outdoor portion used to be my favorite part of the ride.

Check out the changes here.

That's how it seems from what I've been researching and seeing the park map. It definitely has a lot more character even though the theming is similar, but most of the attraction facades in FL at WDW are a bit tacky, very carnival like. The only thing that still holds a candle to DL's FL is PhilharMagic  I believe anyways...

I'm interested to see how much the expansion changes the MK. It will help the overall experience, but I'm not yet convinced that the additions will elevate the MK's Fantasyland to be on par with Disneyland's. Disneyland will still have a larger number of unique attractions.

Yeah, from someone who's more of a "veteran" to WDW, it doesn't seem entirely that way. They're getting rid of SWSA, my first ride in Disney EVER and putting a Princess M&G in it's place then a mine ride based off the seven dwarfs fine, so that's a bit of a downer, though the ride was outdated anyways. The new Beauty & the Beast themed area looks awesome and same with the new Little Mermaid area. Dumbo is totally ruined. Then, Toontown gone... yeah, we'll just have to wait and see because it doesn't look good so far.

I ride Storybook Land at least one time per visit, but rarely in the daylight. Even when it was with my entire family of 7, we never had a boat all to ourselves even in the last hour the park is open.

Oh wow! Well, one can wish lol But I'm fine with that. Do the characters sometimes narrate the tours?

Be aware that if the park closes early (as opposed to midnight, that last hour will generally be crowded.

That's good to know, I guess I may use that for the nighttime experiences like Fantasmic and WOC :thumbsup2

Yeah, and it seems to totally flip the layout of the one in WDW's on its head. It will be interesting to actually ride their SWSA.

I'm excited to ride it if it's better :-) I think I might have to watch Wind In The Willows, because this whole Mr. Toad story sounds interesting. I usually would read it, but I have all this school reading so... I really can't and that's so cool you got to ride the original layout *jealous* ;)

Yeah, it's called force perspective. They talk about it a lot, especially when it comes to the Disney castle. They're also using it for the Beast's castle being built in WDW, it's wicked tiny but it looks like it's from faraway it's super cool, but even with that in mind, I think Main Street is bigger, not as in longer, but where it fills out more on the sides, especially with places like the Plaza Inn and Carnation Cafe. But what do I know, I've never been lololol

I mentioned Astro Orbiter being different? The difference is the view from above.

I've heard the one in WDW is better because the one in DL, is on the ground not atop PeopleMover like in WDW. I haven't been on the one in WDW yet, so I may just skip it since those types of rides don't reel me in so much anymore. :/

Yeah, don't. I'm really trying not to ruin it for me, but I just like watching ride-throughs of rides on YouTube, but I'm trying to stay away now :thumbsup2 I will have to go look for that book. Maybe I'll see if my friend can go look at that, because I think he is mostly clueless to DLR, so something to help him out :-)

I think that's probably one of the big things I'm looking forward to, not having to plan out transportation so much, because it does get overwhelming in WDW, though I take it in as the experience, being that's how WDW has always worked, but it'll be nice for a change not have to run barefooted through a whole park to get to the buses :lmao: And I will definitely not try to make comparisons, they are quite different and that's how it will remain in my mind. I will though maybe do a comparison for the final wrap-up of that TR hehe

Awwwww... that's so sad. I'm not totally upset, though it doesn't look great the temporary safety precautions. Most of the original charm of the outdoors area is at least still there and my trip isn't until April, so there's a lot of times and maybe it will be gone by then :confused3 But thanks for telling me, Jessica! :-)

It's funny but the main thing that I always hear is the difference in size in the castles. When you take into consideration the amount of money Walt had when they built Disneyland and the amount when they built WDW Aurora's castle is amazing then.
