Shipping Juice Boxes?

Okay so I have a toddler so we go thru alot of juice and milk in this house. I'm going to be giving her more juice than milk while we're there just out of convenience. I want to ship ahead about 30 juice boxes. Can I ship liquid? Have you done this? Did it leak? We won't have a car there for a grocery run and I'm not paying garden grocer's prices although I love their service.

Any guidance will be appreciated!

I would strongly recommend you not ship juice. That would not be a cheap thing to do, why not consider getting a taxi to take you to a walmart the moment you get there and loading up on juice that way.... I don't think a taxi is going to cost anymore than it will cost you to ship that much juice.... it would also allow you the option of loading up on other things while you were at it... the only thing you might also do is have the taxi drop you off and call another taxi to pick you up when you are done shopping otherwise the meter will be running while you shop and that will add up quickly.

Is there anything wrong with good old water? Kids drink too much juice - big kids should have no more than 4 ounces a day.....

I would check with the carrier you want to use for shipping and ask them about how to ship liquid items and what the cost will be. That way you will know the correct answer and if its worthwhile regarding costs.

I have packed juice boxes and water in my luggage and didn't have problems, so I can't imagine why couldn't ship with UPS or Fedex. I would suggest leaving the boxes in the shrink wrap that they come in and insulate the inside of the box with packing material - you should be fine!

Also FYI - there is Hess Gas Station / Mini Market just across the street at Downtown Disney - I don't know if they carry juice or juice boxes, but it might be worth checking into.

Also they do sell juice in bottles at the Food Courts if this might be an option for you as well.

I would be careful packing liquids in the luggage... the last time I tried to bring a case of carbonated beverages on a trip about half of them got burst open by the luggage handlers... was spewing soda while it came down the luggage shoot in the airport so I know it wasn't from the altitude they would have been done spewing if that were the case.

I've never had a problem shipping juice/milk boxes to Disney, I've done it three times. I leave the juice in the cellophane wrapper, stick it in a gallon size zip lock baggie and then put all the liquid items in a heavy duty trash bag and tape it up so if anything leaks it won't go over everything else. I'm sure I overdo the packaging, but I don't want a mess. I don't know if you are shipping diapers/wipes also, but I try to pack the liquids in the middle of the box with diaper and wipe packages around the outside to cushion it. It cost about $20-25 to ship and it was waiting for us in our room upon check-in. I think it is totally worth it and I will be doing it for our next trip as well.
By the way, I used UPS to send it.

Toddlers should not be drinking juice at all. Pure sugar just like soda.

You need to declare liquids that are shipped with most shippers and pay more for the method it must be shipped. It may also take longer to arrive.

If you are staying at a convention resort you will also pay a package delivery fee at the resort.

You can use a grocery delivery service like garden grocer or wegoshop. If you need diapers and such it is not to hard to meet the minimum.

I would have to disagree on that one. If you don't take my word for it check out the American Academy of Pediatrics and you'll find that they don't even believe it should be cut out completely. Sure it should be cut down to no more than 8-12 ounces per day... but to compare it to sodas is a bit naive... unlike sodas juices do have vitamins and unlike sodas 100% juices do not include the high fructose corn syrup that sodas do... frankly I don't think most sodas contain ANY real sugar just the HFCS that is a fancy word for chemical re-engineered organic waste.

She drinks alot of water and the juice she does receive is very watered down. The 30 boxes are for a 15 day trip and are small boxes. She will get more juice than usual but its just because we're ob vacay and she won't be getting much milk.

Ok thanks everybody! I will go ahead and ship it I think since I'm sending other items as well.

I didn't mean to turn this into a discussion on whether or not juice is horrible. I actually agree, I limit her juice quite a bit and what she does get is about 20% juice/ 80% water. In fact I used to not give her ANY juice until her pediatrician told me otherwise.

But this discussion isn't about who is a good parent and who is bad. It was simply asking about a shipping concern.

I have never been told of a surcharge and I fill out the UPS form listing everything in the box.

To the OP, I've also shipped glass baby food jars without incident, so really don't worry about the juice boxes. Have a great trip!

My husband is currently deployed so I ship boxes frequently. I asked at the post office about mailing liquids because my husband wanted a particular mouthwash. The guy told me to wrap it in something to absorb the liquid if it breaks/cracks, then bubble wrap and then ziploc bag. When I finally sent it, I declared it on the customs form, told the guy exactly what was in there and I had no issues whatsoever. I paid the same flatrate that I usually pay with the special APO/FPO box.
