Military Salute tickets

My husband got out of the military a few years ago, but he is obligated to be in the Inactive Ready Reserve for 6 years. He still has an ID card, as do I and we have access to the commissary and BX. His ID just shows that he is Reserves.

If we buy the Military Salute tickets, will they just look at his ID, or will they require more documentation? I know in the past I have heard that they wanted proof that you were activated within the year in order to take advantage of the military rates.

I was also wondering about the military room rates and if the same will apply? We are looking to take a last minute trip in November and I am trying to price everything out to see if it is feasible.

If he is reserve than you will have no problem getting the tickets and the hotel discount. There is no difference in a reserve ID card and an active Duty. My DH is active duty reserve and have using the salute discounts since they came out in 08. I will tell you the resort availability with the salute is getting pretty slim for November as I tried to switch to a couple of other resorts and they had no rooms.

So do they just check the ID card at the hotel and at the ticket gate?

Yes they will check the ID during check in at the resort. You have to activate the ticket at Guest Relationship & show your ID then from then no more just twice :) *

Once you get the ticket activated you don't have to show the ID again. At least I didn't :)

My husband is an Active Reservist and they never asked for our ID at the Resort or the ticket window, although we had it available on both trips. They did ask for our DL for the address info.

As long as you have an ID card, you are good to go, you can even stay at Shades Of Green, and for at least part of our upcoming trip, the rates are better and the rooms are bigger.

I am not doubting you but did you buy the salute tickets? At least they are the ones I got at my ITT office & I had to activate them at guest relationship gate. And had to show ID. I didn't have to show my ID at the resort (BWI) but I have heard & seen others who was asked. This was this past June & July at WDW. Just wondering :confused3

Yes, I know very well what tickets I had, we had ust come from Shade of Green from purchasing them, because our MWR office didn't have any. We had our ID cards ready, and asked him if he wanted to se them, but he wanted our DL for our address. He may have glanced at DH's ID, but not mine. This was Dec 2010.

Any time we had a promotional rate at the resort (AP, Military), I have been prepared to show the identification necessary, but have never been asked for it. I would never take advantage of the system.

That explains it as you brought them their where I brought mine at my ITT office so I had to get them activate when I got there. We never been asked at the resort (BWI) as they know us but only when we activated the tickets other than that no more. : Wish they would keep it year round but lucky that Disney does this. :goodvibes

I wasn't doubting you nor flaming you if you took it that way

I realize you weren't doubting me or flaming me. And no, we didn't buy them at Guest Relations, we bought them at the ticket office at Shades of Green, then we went across the street to the TTC and activated them at the Guest Relations window. They had no idea where we purchased them.

We went to Disney in May on a spur of the moment trip and bought our tix at Shades and they checked DH's ID and took down his info and when we went to activate them at Guest Relations, they also checked his ID and took down ALL of our info - even DD.

You should be able to book a room only rate through the discount. As far as I've been told/seen, if you can get the tickets, you qualify for the room. I would recommend calling just to verify, but if your ID gets you on base and into the BX/Comm, it shouldn't be an issue.

I never said that they didn't look at my ID at the SoG ticket desk, but they didn't look at it at Guest Relations at the TTC.:worship:

I was just referring to the differences throughout everyone's different experiences. It's even different from DL to WDW (just in what we went through). I'm just intrigued because Disney is one of those places you tend to see SOP with things and military tickets seem to vary widely in how they are handled.

... still, as long as they're willing to grant such awesome perks, I will flash my ID as much as needed. :thumbsup2 We have been able to bookend some separations and unexpected trainings with stops at Disney and I'm very appreciative for it!

Hi,
I am wondering if I am understanding this right. My husband is a reservist in the Coast Guard. He is not currently under any active duty orders. In other words he is drilling every month only. Do we still qualify?

Yes, that is what my husband does with the Army. You qualify for the special tickets, WDW room discounts, as well as Shades of Green.

All you have to do at SoG is show your ID card at check in, they asked us to bring his LES, but they never looked at that. I think the info they needed off the LES was on our ID cards.
