Silly YYZ to MCO question

I hope someone knows this! I tried to google with no luck!

If our flight time is 2 hours and 37 minutes how much of that time is actually in the air vs leaving the gate and on the runway, arriving etc? Tomorrow is my first flight in 26 years!!!

That really depends on what day of the week and what time of day you leave. Also depends on winds (I've seen winds make up to a half our difference on a 2 hour flight). I've taxied for over an hour before on really busy days in Toronto. I'd estimate on average you're probably looking at 2h to 2h15 minutes in the air for that flight.

I think ccudmore's estimates are pretty accurate. The planes fly at about 550mph cruising and are much slower during landing. Given the distance that works out to a little over two hours takeoff to landing. But winds, wind direction, air traffic etc. add a lot of variability.

Thanks! So 2ish hours in the air. I was kind of hoping that a lot of time was allotrd to on the ground take-off and landing.

Toronto? What about MCO? Is it just me, or does it seem to take FOREVER to reach the terminal after you land? The taxiway crosses over highways and byways, and takes the scenic route; I swear that the pilot will come on at any moment and announce "Ladies and Gentlemen, if you will look out the right side of the plane you will see Cinderella's Castle, and to the left is the Epcot dome. We will be arriving at terminal 2 in another 15 minutes. Please leave your seat belts fastened until the plane has come to a full stop in front of the terminal... Oh look, there is a stampede of Wildebeest on the savanna at Animal Kingdom caused by our jet wash..."

Maybe it's just the excitement to get to the parks but I swear MCO has the longest taxi after landing of any airport in the US, and I often fly into larger US hubs for business!!

In my personal experience, Toronto Pearson is absolutely terrible. I frequently fly YYZ-YOW, and it's not uncommon for me to spend more time on the ground in Toronto in line for a runway before departure or waiting for a gate after arrival than in the air.

it's not just the taxiway at mco, it's that long hallway down the stairs to show your passports, grab your bags, go up the excalator, and clear customs again?

If you're flying into MCO from a major airport in Canada, you don't clear customs at MCO. Your flight is considered to be a Domestic flight upon arrival.

that has changed since i flew on air canada, 3 years ago then (fine i mean security)
we got off the plane with 2 babies, and had to have the stroller folded down and put through the xray, take off my shoes and belt, i told the attendant in a very stern voice while holding my 3 month old son to wait when he told me to hurry up

I've done a lot of flying to a lot of places over the years and have never once heard of people having to take off shoes and go through an x-ray when coming off a plane. That makes no sense.

Perhaps you have it mixed up with your departure for your trip home where you would have to do both those things.

If you're flying into MCO from a major airport in Canada, you don't clear customs at MCO. Your flight is considered to be a Domestic flight upon arrival.

In 2008 we cleared customs in MCO (from YYZ), but on other flights I have taken from YYZ to US airports I have also cleared customs in YYZ before boarding the plane. Maybe it depends upon the airline?

it was april 2008, we for sure had to clear security a second time
i remember vividly having to fold down the stoller, take off my shoes, hold up my shorts as the button had broken off them on the flight, after having my passport checked in orlando, we flew air tansat from toronto to mco

since then we have flown from dtw

i'm in london halfway between detroit and toronto
