Wireless routers @ OKW

We are staying @ OKW now and they are installing wireless routers in the villas. Ours is scheduled to get one today. A man came by this morning but we are getting a late start this morning so he is supposed to come back while we are out. I'm not sure how far they have gotten. We are in building 23.

That's nice. I wonder if they will still have the wired connection available with the wireless? It would be still be more secure to bring your own router. Though for most usages, the resorts own wireless connection would be fine.

FYI, we are here at GCV and yes there is wireless as well as a wired connection. As stated we will still bring our own router.

This is good news.

The DVC Members have spoken and the 'Club' is delivering...can I say it again how much I love being a DVC Member!!!!!! :goodvibes

So, you are saying that all rooms at OKW will have wireless available to members soon ?,

My question also. Now that we are empty nesters we use studios more often. Per chance has anyone noticed if any have been installed in the studios?

Good to hear that they are installing wireless access, but I think we will still bring our own router. I'm thinking that (depending on location in the villas) our wireless signal will still be stronger that way.

Didn"t see any signs of a router in our 2 BR in Bldg. 20 this week. Had to call IT services to get the access code to be able to use the wired connection.

They're putting one in every villa? That seems like overkill.

Is this only available for use for DVC members? or regular customers as well.

We are staying there in 16 days (whoo hoo) and I'd love to be able to use wireless, paying is fine, but I really want to be able to use my iPad.

I wonder if they'll have wireless at Kidani Village by the time we arrive in 17 days. And go figure, I just bought an Airport Express last week!:headache:

I'm not sure if you could guarantee acceptable signal strength in all units otherwise.
OKW does not have hallways, so it would probably be a lot more expensive to add wiring and outdoor routers than installing indoor routers in every room using existing wiring.

Reducing the number of wired ports in OKW units made no sense to me. Although now that I think of it, my OKW 2BR had its own wired switch or hub that sent the signal to the other ports.

I wonder if they will now supply each room with a password, or will OKW be all free wifi to all?

At Vero, where they have had wifi, you get a password from the front desk. It changed weekly. So you needed to get the new password, I believe it was changed on Sunday.

Probably good that you bought your own. If they're piloting this over at OKW, I think we'll be lucky to see wireless at Kidani before the end of the year.

Well, just called OKW resort and asked at the desk if they now had wireless internet and she said NO. All they have is high speed with cable. I will call again and see if i get a different person and the same answer. If someone that is their can check at front desk to get the update that would be nice. For all that are coming and use the internet all the time a wireless would be great to use IPad, IPod etc. thank you

The 'front desk' numbers for the resorts go off to call centers and all they have is the documentation to go by. It's possible that even the real front desk CMs may not be aware of the wireless routers being piloted.

It does not surprise me that you would get a "no" answer, even if they are installing a wireless system. That system would need to be fully installed and operational before the resort would give any sort of blanket "Yes, we have wireless." answer.

Either way, a simple solution is still to bring along a travel router that you have pre-configured at home and it is more secure.
