Perhaps I am just a protective DVC person who feels that I truly do "own" a piece of Disney (I know that isn't really the case), but I just had to leave a neighborhood barbeque when two people were talking about how they lie to get Guest Assistance Cards at the Disney parks. The one guy said that he always tells them that he has irritable bowel syndrome, while the other person said that she tried that and it didn't work. The first guy went on to say how great the card is, etc. etc. etc.

I have a son with diabetes and, although many people use that as a legitimate way to get a card (since waiting in the heat makes it tough to manage blood sugar for a little kid), I have never done that. It makes me mad when a guy makes up a reason to get the card.

I am from Jersey and, although most people don't fit the Jersey stereotype, this guy fit the Tony Soprano stereotype to a T. I know there are worse things someone can do than fake an illness to get a Guest Services Card, but it really p*ssed me off.

This makes me FURIOUS!!! My son (age 4) also has diabetes (T1) and my 7 year old has autism. The GAC has been a godsend for us, mostly for my son with autism, who has major sensory issues. I don't know that we'd be able to do Disney with out a GAC. This makes me so upset that people would abuse this!

From what the guy said, it is basically like a Fast Pass, though the wait is apparently even shorter. You get to enter through the exit many times, or something like that.

I am part of a diabetes message board, and there are often discussions about whether people with diabetes should be entitled to them. I am neutral on whether they "should" be entitled to them, though I don't think it is right for us to take one since we have no problem with testing and giving adjustments (sugar, insulin) in the heat. Over the past few years, though, I have been more attuned to people using them, as it often seems like the people using it have no noticeable reason for doing so. I realize that these things aren't always visible, but I guess I just wonder.

I know someone else who misused it recently. Someone in the family was sick a year ago, but they didn't seem to think it was that big of a deal to still use that as an excuse to get it. I know another person who misuses the child swap option. Her daughter is too old for it and doesn't require it, but Mom holds her up to the Disney employee and explains that they need it.

A GAC card is not designed to bypass lines, there are several different GAC stamps, each designed to fit a specific need. For instance, if you are traveling with someone who has Autism, you may need an alternative waiting area with less stimulation...or someone with mobility issues may need to use an alternative entrance or loading area.

In many cases, the wait time is as long or longer than the standard queue...especially for mobility issues, as the limit the number of people on many rides with trouble walking in case of evacuation. Or you may need to wait for a W/C accessible ride vehicle.

The only true "line bypass" privileges are for terminally/seriously ill children on a Make A Wish trip, and they general stay at Give Kids the World or similar venue.

As the other poster said, Karma will likely catch up with these people.
