Just checked into our unit. Had requested a water view in main lodge but got a tree view in bldg. 14 instead. Oh well, considering how many people are having problems right now, I'm just thankful to be here. Room seems fine, no issues to speak of. Arrived at 12:45 and had to wait about half an hour for room to be ready. Not too bad.

Getting ready to head to beach. Dinner tonight probably at San Miguels.

Question - has anyone eaten at the Sea Trawler? If so, how was it.

Not personally, but a local friend enjoyed eating there. If you go, give us a report...I keep meaning to head over there and try and it out.

DH has us down for EAT next weekend; looking forward to that too.

Glad you were able to make it. HH had a few squall bands move thru on Friday with some 35 mph gusts and heavy rain, but no damage. Today is beautiful with low humidity and mid 80s temp. Not a cloud in the sky! :teeth:

We have eaten at the Sea Trawler and it was OK. View was nice at sunset and food was fine.

It sounds like you have a 2BR? There are no 2BRs in the main lodge since those are all lock-offs and typically used only as 1BRs and Studios unless a HCA 2BR is required. The villas in Bldg 14 do have an obstructed marsh view. If there were still fireworks you'd be fine - but those ended almost 3 weeks ago.

Have a great stay! :)

Doc - We have a studio. I gave the wrong bldg. number. We're in one of the 3 BR buildings (16).

That makes sense then. Is the GV occupied ... and if so have you noticed any floor noise from above?

Building 16 is one of the "island view" locations with a view of only interior island views including other buildings.

Sorry to hear you didn't get one in the lodge. :(

If you get a chance, post some pictures. We'll be going in January and I'd love to learn more. Doc shared some GREAT information to get me started. Now I need visuals. :)

Have a wonderful stay!

Wolfpack Fan has some beautiful ones posted in his [her?] signature. Follow the link to the Picasa album and there are a bunch from HHI. I'm enjoying them right now. Can't wait to go myself.

Thank you! Those are amazing photos. I didn't even realize the link was there. HHI is even prettier than I imagined.

We loved HH! It was so relaxing. I needed a vacation and had a relaxing one. Hope to get in for next year.

Doc - Yes, the GV is occupied. I've heard walking around occasionally, but nothing that has really bothered us yet.

Monday morning update -

Just got back from taking a leisurely walk around the resort and getting some coffee from the main lodge (they have free coffee there every morning). The resort seems to be in excellent condition and is very well maintained. Sat down on the south end of the island next to the kayaks and just relaxed for a while. It was so nice and peaceful. I shared the beautiful view with a very large crane. I didn't bother him and he didn't bother me, so we parted friends :).

Someone asked about posting pictures. I will when I get back home. I didn't bring my laptop this trip, only my iPad and posting is a lot harder without the laptop. In the meantime go to the link below. I have pictures there from all my previous trips (actually all our trips from the last ten years :)).

Plan of day - hit beach shortly. DW will probably stay out there all day. I will sit a while and then will probably get bored and then leave her there while I go and explore the island some (have to hit Starbucks, they depend upon me daily to keep their revenues up :lmao:).

Dinner tonight at Old Oyster Factory.

I can't wait to get back. I was just there the first week of August. I had 16 guests spread out between a GV, a studio and a 2 bedroom. ( 1914, 1922, and 1921 )

The resort is in fabulous shape, and I LOVED the GV. I plan on booking that again soon. I've heard HHI is up for a refurb soon. Honestly, new carpet would be nice ( though ours looks much better than my BWV did prior to the refurb ) and get rid of the stinking ejecto couch.

Have a great time, and have a firefly vodka and frozen lemonade slushie at the beach pool for me.

I know that area by the Kayaks! One of my favorite places to sit and watch the boats go by.

Guess we'd better not be there at the same time-we'll be fighting for the chairs.
Hope you keep having a great trip.

Yep, that's the place. One of my few complaints about the HHI resort is that they don't have enough places where you can just sit and relax near the water. You have to either be behind the lodge, at the playground, on the pier or at the south end of the island. I wish they had put in a walkway that completely circles the resort next to the water and had benches at various places. If you are not lucky enough to get a water view unit, which is really just the luck of the draw, you're kind of cutoff from having good views. Right now DW is sitting out on our balcony and she has a real good view of a pine tree :).

And most of the few places that there are have now been turned into designated smoking areas, including that one. I complained to the front desk about it, and fortunately when we go over there, there is rarely a smoker in the area. I saw somewhere in your photos the 2 adirondack chairs behind the main lodge. That's another good spot to sit! I wanted to menion that one time, in the water right in front of those chairs, we saw a Dolphin. He/she was churning up the water in the shallows, splashing-I was told it was to stir up fish. I thought it was exciting!

Monday PM update -

Okay, pet peeve - twice now we've come to the HH resort and left our laptop at home, just relying on our iPhones and iPad. Both trips, we've had issues with the WiFi. It seems to ask for the WiFi code every time we turn our devices on but a lot of times it doesn't ask for the code but won't let us on either. Very flakey. Anyway, I did finally get on after trying multiple times.

We stayed out on the beach most of the day. It was perfect weather. Now just chilling in the room. I did venture out a little while ago to take some pictures with my regular camera. Heading out for dinner after DW finishes her shower.

Dinner at Old Oyster Factory.

Plan for tomorrow - Savannah with lunch at Mrs. Wilkes.

Tuesday 2:00 update -

Drove over to Savannah this morning and had lunch at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House. It was delicious - great southern, country cooking just like my grandmother used to cook. We much prefer Mrs. Wilkes over Lady and Sons. For those that don't know they are only open for lunch and the food is served family style with whomever they sit at the table with you. We sat this time with two young couples and in spite of our age differences had a great lunch. You need to get there early to avoid the long lines. We arrived around 10:45 and were in the first sitting at 11:00. Worked out great.

After lunch we walked down Bull St. to the river. Messed around there a little bit until it looked like it might start raining. Got a little bit wet. Headed back to HHI and then the skies opened up. Some of the heaviest rain I've seen in a long time. Unfortunately as we pulled onto 278 at Bluffton the low air pressure light came on in my car. I pulled into a gas station and checked the air in my tires and one was a little lower than the others. I put some air in and hope I don't have a nail or something. That's why I posted my question about whether anyone knows a good place on the island to get a tire fixed.

We are now back in our Studio and it is still raining. Plan is to head down to beach when/if the rain stops.

I have updated my pictures. The link is below.

Tuesday 6:00 update -

I sure hope you all aren't getting tired of my ramblings. After it stopped raining we headed back to the beach and sat out there for a couple of hours. It was really nice, nice cool breeze and sun behind the clouds for the most part, so I didn't have to fight the umbrella. I have not yet figured out the trick of using the umbrella we brought. It seems that it is always blowing away or turning inside out. I have to use it though because of a history of skin cancer.

Tonight we are going to eat light, since we ate such a big lunch. We're going to just walk across the bridge to Parrott's Cove, so DW can get a small salad and I'll get some kind of sandwich.

If you have any questions please let me know. Have I ever said how much I love this place? Even more than WDW :scared1:.

It's funny, but the very first time we stayed at HHI, DH felt this way and I could tell he was so afraid to tell me because he knew what a WDW fanatic I am.

Yes, I do have a question-how was Old Oyster Factory? In all our trips we've never eaten there, but they must have great food, or some kind of magic or something. I say that because we go off-season, and almost all the resturaunts are walk-ins. Almost all, that is. except Old Oyster Factory. We can see their parking lot across the marsh from the lodge with our binocculars, and it's always PACKED!! Like I said, for off-season that's so unusual. So what's the reason?
