How big is the kitchenette?

Wierd question for a friend but would a crib fit in there? she would like to have a little quiet area for a baby to sleep while rest of the family watches tv, etc?

Thanks!

It would definitely be deep enough. My only concern would be the distance between the kitchen cabinet and the wall/bathroom sink [the difference being if they get a retrofitted studio]. The BLT kitchenette is set up differently than any other studio - think of it as a large and narrow walk in closet. I would think it has at least a 36 - 40 inch walk way
Code:
, but it's been so long since I had a crib; I don't remember how wide they are.

Allears.net shows a great picture of the BLT kitchenette. Tried to link, but didn't work. Our site sponsor wdwinfo didn't have the perfect shot.

It would be a really tight fit, if it fits at all. Little hands would certainly be able to reach and touch the counters. You can't close it off from the rest of the room, so not really sure if it would be a good option.

The photo inserted above is not accurate since 'member feedback' prompted them to REMOVE the bathroom sink from the kitchenette area.
Previously, there was NOT a sink in the bathroom - the kitchenette and the bathroom sink were parallel/galley style in one area.

However, people suggested that preparing food in the same area that is also subject to makeup, hairspray, hair, etc etc etc - really wasn't a suitable place for the bathroom sink.

So there is a sink in the bathroom now - which closed off a decent amount of upper body space in the kitchenette area.

The kitchenette problem came out of the question of.... WHERE to put the kitchenette.

In a normal squarely constructed building, adding the two extra feet to either side of the entry door wasn't an issue at all - however, since BLT is round - the rooms had to be narrow - so there was no room to have the kitchenette by the front door, where all of the other kitchenettes are located...

So the galley style bath sink and kitchenette was the solution - however, they didn't think through very well, as they have gone back through to rearrange that, putting the sink in the bathroom.

If my memory serves me correctly, the kitchenette area would not be wide enough for a crib.

That's one of the problems with BLT - the rooms are smaller than all the other studios on property - by around 30sqft If I remember correctly.

We stayed in a BLT studio and felt that it was about the size of an average hotel room. It actually felt a little cramped with just two adults and the king size bed, table and chairs, and sofa.... I can't imagine pulling the sofa bed out!

IMHO they built the BLT studios entirely too small to be 'Deluxe Villas'. They should have just done 1BR, 2BR, and 3BR Grand Villas.

I'm sure some think that BLT studios are just the right size, but they don't leave much room to move around!

Not all of the studios have been retrofitted yet. Many members have returned recently indicating the bathroom sink was still in the kitchenette. They seem to be taking there "suite" time with it. :cutie:

thanks for the replies! i have never stayed at BLT but would love to.

i think she is just trying to create a out of the way place where baby will not be in the midst of all the goings on.

would any of the other studios have a space like that? i have only stayed at akv and don't think that would work.

You may find OKW studios have a space near the sinks for a pak n play. That configuration would be two queen beds, though, no pull out sofa.

We stayed in a BLT studio last summer (outer rim - I've heard the inside rooms are smaller) My son who was about 5'2" had no problem laying out a bed just inside the doorway perpendicular to the bathroom sliding door. There is a connecting door in that area going over into the 1br unit that makes it a bit wider and it should be perfect for a small travel crib. It was quieter and darker than the rest of the room & there was plenty of space to still use the door to the hall.

Found a floorplan at http://www.baylaketower.net/bltfloorplan.html

ETA: Please be aware that those doors connecting the units don't seal out the noise of a child crying and kicking on the other side. Just mention this to them... and hopefully they'll be considerate ;)

That's the area I would use for a crib or pack 'n play. We usually store our luggage and cooler there.

I agree with the above poster about using that space by the door for the pack and play. That was my first thought when I started reading this thread. Have a great time!

ITA: That's the space where we locate our Owner's Locker.

No, it's only about three feet wide at the widest point. The pack and play is wider than that.

think they are including the hall as well - since hopefully they are in for the night and not going out again.

for the noise you can open the door and put a towel in the bottom part - of course that would short you one towel - maybe you can bring one from home?
