Interesting Call From MS Today

When the thread about wanting to add AP cost to the monthly MF suggested to email MS about supporting the idea I did. Today I recieved an interesting call form MS about the idea. The CM said that numerous members had requested the same thing and that the idea was being seriously considered by the powers that be. She said that when the bugs were worked out doing this with the Fla residents that Disney will consider making the option for monthly payments available for DVC members. The CM member said that possibly in a year's time it would be an option. I hope she is correct and this does come to pass. I told her this would allow my family to make many more trips to WDW as well as support buying more points to go more often. Keep your fingers crossed this comes to pass.

Would this be optional? Coming from the UK we travel every 18mths to 2 years. Paying for an AP on our MFs would be a huge waste for us.

I would think so. We travel to other destinations every other year or two so I would not need an AP every year. I did not ask that question when I spoke with her I just assumed it would be optional.

If they do this it would be an option for those wanting to purchase annual passes and pay for them on a monthly basis. They cannot require you to buy a pass. I also sent an email requesting this option.

I have a family member who is a CM and I have not paid to get into the parks since the mid-80's.

Where was there a thread about adding AP to monthly maintenance fees, I must have missed that one.

We discussed annual passes that you could pay monthly for like the option given to Florida residents, but I don't remember any thread about adding them on to MF.

I think adding them to MFs is very bad idea.

Adding (optional) monthly AP payments to people already making monthly MF payments is a decent idea (since the monthly payment mechanism is already established)

Not everyone makes monthly payments, so I wonder if those are excluded.

That wasn't the option talked about. It was to simply have the ability to pay for APs over time. It has nothing to do with maintenance fees.

We have been doing the monthly payment for our DL AP's as SoCal residents. I would be happy to have the OPTION to add the WDW to our monthly DVC fees for the years we go to WDW. We will not be traveling there every year and I am sure many other members do not either so I can't see it becoming a mandatory fee!!

I just don't see why this is important.. Can't you just put an equal amount aside every month and do it yourselves? Perhaps make a few bucks of interest in the mean time, plus reward dollars on the Visa when you make the purchase?

That's already been brought to light by the amount of points for the Disney Collection.
My guess is they must recoup some money for the points, so they build in some slop to make up for the value of unused points.

Yes and no, one could say the same about DCL. I think the problem with using the CC and DCL as the benchmarks is that we don't really know what the costs are passed to DVC/DVD, for the passes we'd have a much better idea of what the costs are. What we know for the CC and DCL is what the costs would be if we used cash compared to a member using points, that's potentially, and likely substantial difference than the actual amount DVD pays those entities. I haven't looked at the CC in a while but points for DCL routinely come in around $6-6.75 a point, however, if one compares to applicable FL resident rates, it's often more in the $4.50 a point range. The process of converting points to cash and paying CRO to do so is extremely inefficient.

If I remember correctly, the last time I did the math the Poly came out to be around $6.35 / point as well (This was before the $95 fee).
I don't see why they couldn't also purchase park tickets at a discounted rate.

Again, I think you're using the amount you'd have to pay and assuming that DVD pays that same price. They almost certainly do not, your $6.35 is likely more in the $4.50-5 a point range when paid by DVD. I think many assume that what DVD pays for DCL is the same as the cash prices passed to members for the applicable options, that also is likely a false assumption. Likely the best representation of the actual cash value DVD/DVC puts on our membership is the old travel insurance which paid around $5 a point at time when the cash return on points they had to rent was far better than now.
