Earthquake in Virginia

The weird part of it was how I felt it in my body. It was like my whole body vibrated.
I want a t-shirt now that says I survived an earthquake. LOL

At risk of being pedantic... that's actually not advised during an earthquake. Stay where you are and take cover. Of course, hopefully there won't be a next time for when you need that info.

:thumbsup2 Thanks. I didn't know that either.
My DH used to live in Japan in the 1960's and these were fairly common. He said they were always told to get outside.

So, I checked the FEMA website.
It seems it's best NOT to move from one place to another. If you are in- stay in. If you are out- stay out and away from buildings.
Click the link to see all their recommendations. Good to know.

I live about 1 hour from Mineral, VA where they say it is the center point. OH MY GOSH!!! Of course, that is not the real thing I was thinking....:lmao:. I felt a small something this morning and then a few hours later that huge one came through. My poor dog and I couldn't move. And I kept telling myself I should move to the doorway.

All is well....... so far. Just a little shaken myself. I have a terrible feeling something is wrong though.

I live in chesterfield as well... holy cow it scared me! My dh works at short pump target and was on the roof when the building started shaking:scared1:

We felt it here in NYC too. I had just gone to Staples to get some classroom supplies, then was waiting for the bus. All of then sudden I felt like I was swaying... I thought I was about to pass out! Two seconds later my mom was calling me to ask if our house was shaking... Turns out she thought she was about to pass out. :rotfl: Ahhh, family.

I was just sitting at my desk and when the blinds and the light fixtures started to move we decided to get out. My DH was sleeping on the couch at home and he said that he definitely felt it since the house was making noise.

Felt it all the way here in Holyoke MAss!! A few of my friends felt it up in the berkshires!

Anyone know how Norfolk VA is doing?!?! A friend of mine lives out there, he's in the Navy and near the water...

I looked at the map and it appears the tremmors were wide spread due to it being close to the surface...I know what the news will be about tonight...besides Irene that is !!!

I hope all those close to where it happened are okay.

Checking in from Northern NJ.

All is okay. Felt it like the heavens here!! Entire house shook. Pantry door vibrated open. My cat slept through it while the other one panicked. Cell circuits are jammed. No calls in and out.

Holland Tunnel and national monuments closed. JFK and Newark shut down. The center of it was apparently in VA, but it traveled up the East Coast all the way to Toronto. 5.9 magnitude. White House and Pentagon evacuated.

Prayers and PD to those with damage and/or injuries.

I live not far (10 minutes) from Norfolk, VA and they're doing fine. DH works in Norfolk and their office was evacuated, but everyone is okay. In Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, VA Beach...no reports of damage yet. Just a good rattle and most of us are still feeling a bit disoriented.

In Saint John, NB - I didn't feel it but know of those in other parts of New Brunswick who did... that was a wide spread shake... :scared1:

Felt it in Upstate New York, only lasted a few seconds, I had the feeling it was an earthquake.

The radio is saying that we should expect aftershocks within the next 1-2 hours. A hurricane is coming too. Welcome back to school, east coast!

It's weird because some people felt it in North Jersey and some didn't. DS and I didn't feel anything and neither did mom. One of DS's friends was outside and didn't feel it but his next door neighbor did. We are having cellphone problems. I tried to call DH and I get a recording that it's a non-working number.

My DD in Aldie, Va felt it pretty strong, and it scared her little girl, but thankfully no damage as far as she can tell. DS felt it in Cleveland, DH felt it in Akron, I'm 10 minutes south of DH and felt nothing at all! Hope everyone is well and damage is minimal to nonexistent!
