Paying one meal OOP and TS credit on the second?

How difficult is it to use a TS credit for one specific meal out of two ordered? Say DW has a steak and dessert while I just pay oop for a burger and soda? Will they try to bump us into using the TS credit on the cheaper meal or do we request separate checks? How to best go about this?

Personally, I would suggest that you get separate checks. We have run into a problem with everything being charged to the DP...

We did this at Le Cellier in '09.
My DH wanted one of the steaks, I only wanted the chicken sausage with sweet corn polenta appetizer
I paid for the appetizer and my tea out of pocket and DH got his steak with the dining plan and then we shared his desert.

No problem at all for us.

The servers don't know who is on the plan just that there is "so many" on it.

For instance when in WDW I can meet my high school friend (who lives there) for dinner while DH is off doing his own thing. We simply ask for seperate checks and I say I am on the plan, she is not.
They won't try and persuade you to use credits.

Thats fine. I went on a girls trip with 2 friends (3 for one day) and we had 2 rooms and were on the dp. Two of us in one room (so our dining credits were pooled) another girl in another room had her credits on her Kttw, and a 4th girl who was with us only for 1.5 days and wasnt on dp.

We went for lunch at Coral reef with the 4 of us, we had to get 3 separate checks, one for the 2 of us in one room, one for the other girl on the dp, and one for the girl paying cash. It was not a big deal at all!

I plan on doing this at Yactsman with my DH. He can his beloved steak and I will get my soup and appetizer seperate. I plan on filling up on tapas at the F&W anyway

Tell your server before you order which meal is DDP and which is going to be paid with cash. They will split the check. If you are paying with a KTTW card for both meals, make sure you check the receipts before you leave the restaurant.
