Can you pick where we can eat our first night?

I am cancelling our table service for our first night at Captain's Grille as I booked way too many restaurants (oops) and we are on the dining plan.

So I'm not sure what to do in its place. We plan on getting to DW by 10:00 in the morning and probably going to swim a bit while we wait for our room. We know we will be in Hollywood at some point that evening, as we want to see Fantasmic! on our first night.....

With that said, can someone recommend a counter service to us? Last I heard, there is nowhere great to eat at Hollywood but I know they have quite a few resorts nearby (maybe even walking distance???) so we'd be willing to leave for a bit, eat at a resort and go back...

We are staying at POR if that helps any. I'm not sure if their counter service is any better than the hotels local to Hollywood? And even if so, then I think we still would like to try another resort??? Suggestions?

As you've heard, counter service at DHS isn't really all that terrific. And I have to say that I don't think there is anywhere nearby that is going to fit the bill. You said you are on the ddp, so that lets out Picabu at the Dolphin..one of my all time favorite spots to grab something quick. None of the area resorts have true counter service.
If you have park hoppers, I would say go into Epcot and over to Sunshine Seasons. Great counter service there.
Or you could just go back to POR and eat at the food court, but that does seem to be a time killer.

I do not have park hoppers this trip (opted for waterparks instead) or else that's exactly what I would have done! I love epcot's food!

If your at HS why dont you just take the boat to the boardwalk and go to Beaches & Cream or somewhere else?

Or honestly, I would just stick with the POR food court. There's a make-your-own pasta section...and make your own salads. Cant go wrong with that!

Also, you might considering taking the boat from POR to DTD...grabbing a bite to eat at Wolfgang Puck Express at the market place....then either take the boat back to POR or go to HS from there.

It's no Epcot, but I don't have a problem with the CS at HS. I've eaten at Studio Catering several times and always enjoy it. Pizza Planet might be fun for the kids. Hmm...this is why I couldn't live without a hopper though. My best suggestions for food are always at Epcot. I believe we had 7 out of 10 TS meals there on our last trip. lol

I just realized that we will probably have lunch at POR that day as well since we will be arriving closer to lunch time.

The boat ride to boardwalk sounds good. Does Beaches and Cream have good food? This is the type of recommendations we were looking for! Thank you!

POR food court will be just fine. You may be really hungry when you arrive, so it will look even better. :)

DTD restaurants Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express both get rave reviews. The boat ride to DTD from POR will likely involve some waiting, and then you will need to get oriented, etc...so I would allow 45minutes to an hour from when you set out before you would have your food. If you can wait that long, fine.

Starring Roles Cafe at DHS gets good reviews on here as well. Sandwiches, and the real standout is the cupcakes and desserts. But personally, I'd be bummed to get all the way to a park on my first day and just have to sit down and eat lunch before doing anything else! If you can handle that, though, that is the restaurant I would pick for lunch at DHS.

Oh my Sunshines Seasons.. Picabu sounds good..POR food court has very good food with plenty of variety..

Beaches & Cream is a TS not a QS, so that won't work for you either

If you don't mind paying out of pocket, I would suggest the Cabana Bar and Beach Club next to the pool at the Dolphin. They have very good food and a nice and comfortable (and covered) bank of outdoor seats. It's a relaxing place to take a lunch.

We like Fairfax Fare at HS. It's BBQ and to us is as good as Flame Tree over at AK. You can get the combo platters and share. Another bonus is it is right there on Sunset Blvd where you line up for Fantasmic!

1. lunch at POR food court. Running off to DTD first thing just for CS food is not really a relaxing way to start your vacation.

2. dinner at HS - so long as the weather is good, I think that eating along Sunset Blvd is your best bet. There are several CS locations there, all in a row, with shared seating. The weather is the kicker because the seating is all outdoors. OTOH, if the weather is really rotten you probably aren't going to spend the evening at HS anyhow since F! will be cancelled. In that case, you might as well go to DTD for the evening. Eat dinner at Earl of Sandwich or WP Express. Maybe check out DisneyQuest since you have the WaterParks & More tickets.

I don't like the choices at DHS. I try to avoid it as much as possible. However, since you are getting lunch at POR, just to avoid repeat, why don't you try POFQ? It's short walk/boat ride away and they do have different selections. After dinner, you could catch from POFQ to DHS.

Yah me too...it was our first night in Disney and have a lot of restaurants to dine in...:dance3:
