Hanging bathing suits

I'm not sure there's a trick to this one but people on these boards seems to know so many tricks so -- where do you hang your bathing suits to dry? Is there enough room on the bathroom in your cabin for 4 people's suits? Do they dry in a reasonable amount of time, or should we figure on 2 per person to have a dry one available (of course, this results in twice as many wet suits...)

I would bring 2 per person but there is a clothes line that you pull out in the bathtub. Great invention. We didn't see it on our first cruise but second time, it was awesome to have.

there's a clothes line above the tub, that detaches from the wall, people slip the cord through the leg holes and straps of their bathing suits and reattach...It's not terribly long, it will work for 2 MAYBE 3 people, but there are towel racks or over the ledge of the tub will work as well.

Our 'secret' trick is buy those plastic suction cups with a hook attached from the hardware store, maybe even the dollar store. And we put them outside our verandah on the glass. We've even left them there over night while at sea and the suits never blew overboard! Though we try to remember to move the suction cups in and hang them on the inside of the verandah glass for the most part. Takes up no room at all!

There is that retractable string across the shower thing in every bathroom but we've never used it.

I knew you guys would have ideas! The suction cup idea is a great one, and if I don't remember (or don't make it to the hardware store before next week) then I will know to look for the clothesline thingy.

And although I've used those lines in the past in hotels, I never thought to just string it through the legholes, etc. in the suits themselves so the suits don't fall off - seems obvious now

FYI-For fire and safety reasons, DCL does not like anything to be hung on the verandah. So don't be surprised if you are asked to remove any items left on the verandah or if they are removed by your stateroom host/hostess.

We use the dryer line in the bathtub and also bring suction cup hooks to and affix them to the bathtub tiles. If we need more hanging space, there is always the faucet handles and other bath hardware that is over the bathtub. We have plenty of hanging space in the bathtub. (Not sure what the stateroom host thinks of all the swim suits hanging in the tub, but hey, I guess they are used to it)

You don't have to hang them over the railing itself (which is kind of trailer park in my mind). There are chairs on the veranda. We have done this on the Wonder and at WDW. Given the outside temperature in August (hotter than surface of sun) it took no time at all for the suits to dry.

I'm not going to debate this, hanging clothes over chairs is one thing, placing clothing on the windows of a stateroom is another.
Both when left unattended pose an additional fire risk (cigarette thrown from a deck above, and that is also not right) but......
The washing line in the bathroom or the dryer are better places to dry clothing, not a veranda.

You are not allowed to place "things to dry" on your verandah at all. We have hug a towel on the back of the chair one cruise and our SRH removed it and told us it was a no no. He told us that DCL does not allow it as it looks messy to "on-lookers". One cruise my DH placed a swim trunk on the back of a chair on the verandah and our SRH that year removed it and placed it on the back of the bathroom door (the way we discovered those hooks) When she saw us after dinner, she told us that nothing can hang on the verandah as it was against policy. Now she told us a different reason. She said "the weater can change with a blink of the eye on ocean trails and things on the verandah (including large staionairy things can get tossed around) and if something was to blow over board, the ship is responsible).
So after those 2 times of being told it was a "no no" we have only used the line in the bathroom in the tub.

To get them to dry more quickly, we roll our suits in a towel to squeeze them dry and then hang them up on the line in the bathroom.

One tip I read years ago was to hang the suits upside down. A little dampness is to much easier to tolerate around the top of your suit. . .as opposed to the bottom!

A good tip, and I alway's managed to get my trunk's dry by the next day hanging them in a 4 foot x 4 foot bathroom, or I would have taken them to the crew laundry room and but them in a dryer on a low heat.

Yet again, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

The fire hazard isn't the only reason I wouldn't hang anything out on the verandah to dry, does anyone remember those guys in yellow suits who come rolling past peoples verandahs? We we discovered on our most recent cruise that they sometimes come along with power washers and spray down your verandah. Wouldn't want my suit to be power washed!

I have started to bring clothes pins, they help with the clothes line.

One other idea for at least some members of your group is to change on CC mid afternoon, rinse out those things, & let the HOT sun dry them while you relax in shorts & tshirt or sundress, etc. & read a book. Kids will still play in the water, but at least you can get 2 suits fairly dry.

Extra clothes drying lines are quite handy too in the bathroom or the room once they're no longer dripping.

Still have yet to go on our first cruise but I'll 2nd the tip to roll your wet things in a dry towel before hanging to dry. My mom taught me that one when I was a kid. I roll them up, lay the roll on the floor, then dance one end to the other a couple times. You'd be shocked at how dry things come out. If you have little ones they'll be totally delighted with Mom or Dad's silly clothes-drying dance.
