Our Disneymoon PTR + Wedding TR w/ pics - I'm back! (TR link and POP review 9/7)

Great plans so far! I'm not too much help in the DHS touring plans department. I need help there myself! I feel like with all the other parks, we have a natural touring plan that we just kind of fall in to, but at DHS I'm always wondering, ok, what do we do next?! It seems like the way that they time the shows makes it really difficult to plan days there. So many of them are shown at the exact same time and only a few times a day. :headache:

I know! DHS is almost all shows and very little rides, which makes planning a headache. I'm thinking what we might do is just take the first day "on the fly", and do shows as we are close to them at their showing time. Then for our second day, we'll take whatever we haven't had time to do, look at their show time, and devise a plan to try and catch them all.

Whew! I was behind several updates. I really enjoyed the "extra pictures" posts. You can tell that you guys had a wonderful wedding in a beautiful location and had tons of fun with your family.

The pictures of you and your mother are fantastic. I am sure that you will treasure those moments you spent together.

Moving on to your Disney plans. Even though the sites say to change up your plans, I wouldn't do it. I'd stick with what you have planned out already. You and you alone can really see how the crowds are and whether or not you should go from one attraction to the next.

I'm really rolling with the updates, as I only have 14 more days! :cool1:

We did have tons of fun with our family and friends. We'd love to go back, but we know it wouldn't be the same without all of them. As much as we would love to, I don't think there's anyway (short of winning the lottery) to ever recreate our amazing week.

I love that I always have those pictures of my mom and I to look back on.

Yeah, there is no way I'm changing my plans to follow the new crowd calendar recommendations. It took me a while, and about 20 different versions, before I finally came up with a plan Ron and I like and we are sticking to it. We'll be getting to the parks early and have some sort of a plan, so we should be fine.

Counter-Service Dining

As you may have notice so far, dining is not really part of my plans. Since we are doing the QSDP, we are leaving things pretty open in terms of where and what we will be eating. A lot of it will be dependent on what we feel like eating, at the time we feel hungry, and what's close by.

That doesn't mean that I wouldn't appreciate having some sort of idea of what's good and what's not out there.

So I'm turning to you my readers. What are you best counter-service restaurants in each park? Which ones were not so good?

I quite enjoy FlameTree BBQ at AK. I am not sure about the other parks though. However I must say that I will never go to ABC Comm. at HS again. It was one of the worst meals I have ever had at HS. YUCK!!

I hope this helps a little.

FlameTree BBQ is the only one we have tried at AK, and DH loved it so we are for sure going back. Glad to see he's not the only one who likes it. :thumbsup2

HS is the park I know less about so thanks for letting me know to avoid ABC Comm. When we went there we had tried Backlot Express and had not enjoyed our meal either, way too SALTY!

I'm seriously considering surviving on snacks while at HS. :rotfl:

Day 3 Plans

Day 3 is our first slow day. It will start by getting up with no alarm, then followed by a big breakfast at POP's food court.

After that we will make our way to our first water park of the trip, and my favorite Disney water park, Typhoon Lagoon.
Typhoonlagoonentrance.jpg

Since we'll be arriving pretty late, if the crowds are too big we'll start by jumping into the surf/wave pool, and making a few rounds on the lazy river.
wavehitsus.jpg

Eventually we'll make our way on to as many slides as possible, including Crush'n'Gusher of course!

We'll probably stay until late afternoon, and then we'll come back to our room to rest and clean up. We'll put on our nicest clothes and go to our one and only romantic dinner at Fultons Crab House.

We'll also probably take some time to walk around Downtown Disney

before going back to POP and head to bed.

Please keep the CS suggestions coming. :)

You know what, in all of our Disney food talks and looking at menus, we have never even looked at Earl of Sandwich. I'm gonna go take a look at the menu and see if it's worth checking it out for us.

Columbia Harbor House is another one that often gets skipped over in our talks, should check it out too...

Thanks.

We are going to HS for as long as it takes to do the rides we want and that's about it. The only food items I want to try are the carrot cake cookies and grapefruit cake. We are going on our arrival day, and only planning on being their half the day. We would rather spend 1.5 days at EPCOT and only .5 day at HS. For lunch that day, we are hoping our room will be ready by the time we are done so we can eat lunch at POP. Maybe have a picnic lunch along the lake??

I have read many good things about Columbia House at MK. We do not have MK day food planned, so that is a option, for sure.

I hate sandwiches. I dont do hoagies, heros and all that jazz either, but EoS may be my favorite food in all of WDW! Idk what they do to make those sandwiches good, but they are phenomenal!

as for columbia, never had it, so I cant say, but everyone raves abut it! and its in MK!

I'm not a big fan of HS, but DH is. Plus, since we'll be in Disney for two weeks, that's why we'll be spending one full day at HS. Our second day we'll hopefully be in and out fast and just do what we missed the first time, so hopefully we'll be able to eat lunch at POP right after. But ofr you, even if the room is not ready, you can still have lunch at POP, and hope that the room becomes available while you're eating.:)

Though a picnic would be lovely, we are staying at POP and won't even have a fridge in the room, so I don't see how we could bring food to HS. :confused3 Than ks for the suggestion though. From reading other TR I'm really looking forward to the cupcakes at Starring Rolls, so I might just have that for lunch.

I looked at the menu for Earl and saw two sandwich that look very yummy. Have you (or anybody else reading this ;)) ever had the Caprese or Veggie sandwich? How was it?

I'm sorry I meant a picnic lunch at POP, not HS. I am thinking we might grab something from the food court and head over to the lake if our room isn't ready.

I really like Flame Tree at AK too but don't rule out Yak and Yeti CS! It's very good! Lots of food.

Let's see, at Epcot we love Sunshine Seasons. We always eat lunch there and we've never been disappointed. I love that it's a little different than all of the typical cs stuff. The cantina is really good, too. Although it kind of gets mixed reviews. If you are open to Mexican food that is just slightly more authentic, then you'd probably like it. The pastries at the French bakery are amazing, too. I think most of them count as a snack! :thumbsup2

At MK, we love CHH and Pecos Bills. At AK, I've heard great thing about Flame Tree, but I haven't tried it since I'm not a big fan of BBQ. Good luck at DHS. Starring Rolls isn't too bad, but I didn't think it was great, either. :confused3

oops, sorry. That's actually a very nice idea! We might steal this diea if you don't mind. :goodvibes

Oh, I was forgetting about that one! It does sound very good, gonna have to try it!

I was very grumpy when DH ate at Sunshine Season last time, so nothing was appealing to me. Hopefully I'll be in a better mood when we try it this time.:rotfl:

I'm a very picky person that's trying really hard to broaden her food horizon, so some days I'm more open to trying new foods than others. I'll try the Cantina if I'm on a good food day while we are in Epcot.

I've decided that because it's not only a vacation, but our honeymoon, then I will eat whatever I want, whenever I want. If that means getting a pastry from the French bakery (thanks for the suggestion, haven't gone in there yet), then so be it.

Another vote for CHH, cool. I told DH about it and he is interested. Pecos Bill is of course at the top of our list, that's the one CS I keep hearing rave reviews about all the time.

Day 4 Plans

I'm very excited for Day 4 because we are finally going to
THE MAGIC KINGDOM!!!
firstviewofcastle.jpg

We will of course aim to be there at rope drop. This morning we will be focusing on two areas that we almost completely avoided last time,
Fantasyland & Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland-10.jpg

Because it was being refurbed last time we were there, our first order of business will be riding and getting FP for Space Mountain.

I remember LOVING that coaster when I was 9 and I can't wait to ride it again. Hope it lives up to my expectations!

We'll probably leave the rest of Tomorrowland for later and head to another very popular attraction, Peter Pan's Flight
fan_pp.jpg

We of course have to ride Snow White before it's closed down for good.

Then how about a tour in the honey pots.

My one regret from our previous trip is that a mix between a decision to take a mid-day break from the MK and Crystal Palace seating us 45 minutes late for our dinner ADR made us miss Mickey's Phillarmagic, so obviously we have to see it.

I don't care how much DH thinks this is torture, I'm making him go on It's a Small World. It's actually the one thing I sorta remembered from my trip as a toddler.

After that we'll hop back towards Tomorrowland. By then it should be close to lunch, so we'll stop to get something to eat at Cosmic Rays.

Then we'll do, in no particular order:
Carrousel of Progress

People Mover

Ron is not a big fan of leaving a park mid-day to take a break, especially not to go all the way back to the resort. He prefers to just "slow down" while staying in or around the park (taking in an air conditioned show, eating a snack somewhere quiet, etc.). However, this day I'm putting my foot down and having a mandatory break.

We'll go back to POP in the early afternoon to swim and take a nap.

We have to be well rested because tonight are Extra Magic Hours at the kingdom and I plan on staying until the very end! Woohoo!

So after a nice dinner at POP we'll make our way back to MK. Now here is where I'm unsure of what to do. I don't know if we should find a nice spot in the hub to watch the new Castle show and then Wishes, or leave that to another MK night and instead focus on rides.

There are two Main Street Electrical Parade that night, so not sure which one we should watch either to maximize good viewing and waiting less to ride more.

Photo from wdwinfo

For sure we'll be using any FP that we have left from that morning. We'll also explore the other areas of MK. Attractions I really want to ride at night are:
- Jungle Cruise
- Big Thunder Mountain
- Haunted Mansion
- People Mover
- Splash Mountain

The park closes at 2am, and I hope we manage to stay up that late. We do it all the time at home, but who knows after 4 days of intense touring?

What do you think? Wishes on EMH evening, or regular night? First or second MSEP?

I wanted to write another update, but I can't see too well right now and I'm afraid I'll make too many typos. :rotfl:

See, I wear glasses all the time. I hate having to put on contacts every morning and having to take them off every night. A loooong time ago I tried those you leave on for several days, but they gave me infections, so I just stopped wearing contacts completely. I tried again last year so I could be glasses free for the wedding. I like being to wear nice sunglasses instead of those clip-ons, so I thought I'd order some more contacts for Disney. They just arrived and I tried them on for the first time, and... it's not working. They bother my eyes a little, but mostly I see blurry, especially up close. Ugh. I bought them online (where RON always buys his) so I don't know how it would work if I wanted to send them back. I feel bad spending money on this for purely esthetic reason...

This was my little vent of the day.
