Does anyone know the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area? I'm going to a conference there next week, (staying at Eagle Crest Resort) and wondered if anyone knows of shopping and cheaper dining nearby. Thanks for any ideas!

What kind of shopping and dining are you looking for?

Eagle Crest is off of I-94 so you have access to a lot within a short drive. You can get on I-94 and hit the State Street exit and you will be at Briarwood Mall which has JC Penney, Macy's, Sears, and the typical mall stores. You can get off on the Ann Arbor-Saline Road exit and there you have Target, Best Buy, Whole Foods.

Or you can get onto 94 and go to the 23 interchange and then get off on Washtenaw Ave where you have Arborland Mall - smaller then Briarwood but has Old Navy, DSW Shoes, Toys R Us, Marshalls.

Both malls have dining nearby. The State St exit has Red Robin, Olive Garden, California Pizza Kitchen (in the mall). The Ann Arbor-Saline Rd exit has Joe's Crab Shack, TGI Friday's, Chuck e Cheese, Outback, a small Thai place.

Washtenaw Ave has Noodles & Co, Potbelly Sandwiches, Palm Palace (good Middle Eastern food) and other options up Carpentar Rd (Red Lobster, Red Robin, Starbucks)

That is a general overview, I can answer specific questions if you have any:)

:thanks: This helps a lot! I'll let you know if I have any questions! :thanks:

There are lots of dining and shopping opportunities near Eaglecrest. PP gave a very good overview of the area.

In addition to the options listed by the PP there is a McDonalds and Buffalo Wild Wings directly across the street from the Eaglecrest. There is also a Kroger supermarket down the street.

The Washtenaw exit is always a good option. There are two options to exit onto Washtenaw. The first option will take you into Ypsilanti and will give you some decent fast food options. The 2nd option is for Ann Arbor and has Arborland (as was mentioned by pp). Arborland does have a nice Starbucks and Borders also. If you drive past Arborland there are some fast food options, Jimmy Johns, Whole Foods with a cafe, Qdoba, Barnes and Noble, Walgreens. Further down is a Trader Joes (not really on Washtenaw but right at a fork in the road off of Washtenaw. If you have the time and inclination, though, Ann Arbor has a lot of really neat small, one of a kind, restaurants and shops once you hit downtown/campus. The State Street exit will take you there driving well past Briarwood. I always make a point to shop/ eat around Main street when I go home... I love all that is offered in the downtown area (I'm an Ann Arborite...what can I say). Also, if you enjoy middle Eastern cuisine, Southern Michigan is the place to be!!! Near Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti is "Little Arabia" (I believe officially it is in Dearborn) but you don't have to go there to get great Middle Eastern food...you will find it all around Ann Arbor and Ypsi. Also, if you see a Stucchi's....stop by!! Great Ice Cream - my favorite is Mackinac Island Fudge Ice Cream :thumbsup2 . hope you Enjoy!

SideTracks which is just off the EMU campus is our favorite spot to eat in Ypsi :thumbsup2

I second Side Tracks, but if you go out of the hotel and to the left, there is a place called Aubrees, it has great pizza!

FYI the Borders in ArborLand closed in February.
You are taking me back to the good old days. I went to college at EMU!!!

WHAT???? That's what I get for going home but not hitting my usual haunts!! I was just there around the 4th and didn't get to Arborland...first time ever since moving away from A2!!! Too bad! Oh well...now all of them are closing, huh??:sad1:
