To rent a car or Not

I am trying to decided if we should rent a car or not for our next trip.

Last time we went we just used the disney buses and shuttle busses.

This time i was considering getting a car for a week in the middle of our trip. I think it would be a wast to have it for the full 2 weeks as the DW busses are grate. We never had a problem at all with the shuttle bus service but just thought it would give us a little more freedom and might work out cheaper.

There are to of us going and i have completely forgotten the price of the shuttle. We would want to got to US IOA SW and BG (can you get a shuttle there)

The car high would cost us £126 for a week but then you have parking and fuel on top?

Hi Dave

If you plan to do a fair amount off-site, I would think a car would be the best way to go.
If we stay on-site we don't usually bother with a car, but any trip outside of WDW is much easier with a car.

we are staying at OKW

just trying to work out what would be cheaper/better.

How much are the shuttles? can you get one to BG?

Thanks every one

I know there is a shuttle from Seaworld to BG.

I would have a car personally as it gives you the freedom to come and go as you please. You can then change plans if necessary without worrying - for example if the weather is bad the day you plan to go to BG you can just do something else and go to BG another day.

We drive almost everywhere as it is so easy :goodvibes

Thanks every one, this we may drive like you say gives us a lot more freedom.

How much is parking in the parks?

Although we stay on site and do use some Disney transport, we wouldn't want to be without a car.

If you're staying at OKW then you won't have to pay for parking at any of the WDW theme parks.

WDW charges $14/day parking so I expect this will be similar for the other theme parks.

If you just want a car for a few days I can recommend hiring with alamo and picking car up at the car care centre onsite.

Alamo will pick you up from OKW in a shuttle bus and take you there to collect the car. in reverse they will drop you ate a park or your hotel.

We rent a car, even though we always stay on-site.

It makes getting to Universal, Seaworld & Busch much easier, plus we are able to dine at other Disney resorts in the evening without the worry of relying on WDW transport to get us there in time.

Parking at the parks is free if you are staying on-site (at least it was the last time we did it), so it's a no-brainer for us.

We didnt have a car last year when we stayed at SSR and never felt we needed one. The disney transport was great, getting to restaurants etc was easy and will be even easier this year at OKW as we know where everything is ! We went to Seaworld and just got a taxi and will do the same for Universal/IOA this year.

We felt more relaxed not having to drive and it meant we could both have the odd drink at dinner too !

Thanks every one. Still very much undecided. I like the idea as it means it's more flexible.

But then the added cost fule and parking off site

I will have look a alamo thanks

Just priced up 2 weeks and its £260 which I think is a good price how much would you normally spend on fuel, are there any other hidden charges ?

Can you pre pay tolls?

Thanks again

Personally I would get a car to visit Busch Gardens - as noted above, you are constrained by the times the shuttle operates to, so a car would allow you to get there early and stay later (or leave early!!).

For the other parks, I would weigh up the cost of having the car for an additional 2-3 days including the cost of parking at Universal and Seaworld (allow $14 per park/day).

You can get to Seaworld quite easily by getting the Disney transport to Downtown Disney, then catch the Lynx #50 to Seaworld - takes around 20 minutes and costs $2 each.

Universal you would be better getting a taxi. Not sure of prices, but Mears Transportation has a calculator from which you can get a rough price.

Would never ever consider florida without a car. you miss too much.

Otherwise, you're a POD !!!!!!:laughing::laughing::laughing:

after looking at the prices it is soooo much more to hire a car when you take in to account parking tolls fuel.

There is only 2 of us and the shuttle busses look much better value.

Still looking at hiring a car for the BG day tho.
