The pool at the Boardwalk actually has a sign that says; Reserved for guests of the Boardwalk Resort and DVC Members. Our May trip was so hot my DD8 and I went out and spent two days checking out the resort pools.

sigh. you missed my point.

I'm not arguing for pool hopping. I'm wondering what the difference would be between those RENTING " points and those who did NOT compenstae the member for the points .
not necessarily for pool hopping, but.. anything. what's the difference? and, if none, what dif. does it make if the member is Supposed to inform member services that they were compensated for their points.?

I suspect the distinction isn't what it once was, since 'DVC member' is no longer printed on room keys. The way it used to work was, if you told MS that you were not compensated for the reservation, i.e., it was a gift, the key would say 'DVC member'. If you said that it was a paid rental, there was no indication that it was a points reservation.

The idea being, the guest would be eligible for some of the member perks, the paid renter would not. Nowadays, you need to show your member card to get the perks, so only the member gets them.

IMO, that means renters and guests can't pool-hop. Only members can.

yeah, what i was trying to say was that since members never informed MS whether they were compensated or not, the distinction most likely no longer exists. there used to be a distinction and you can still see it in some of the documents (online and otherwise), but at this point there is probably no distinction between a guest and a renter.

All the documentation says that a member gets when they purchase (the Public Offering Statement) is the guests (non-compensated stay) may be entitled to some DVC perks. It doesn't say which perks (because perks are not itemized in this document - they change all the time). It does say, the guest may need the member blue card to obtain these perks.

So if you are a truly a guest of the member (no compensation paid to the member), you could try to get the perks, but they still may say no.

So... I just got off the phone with member services. I was wondering about the whole issue because the DVC membership card is in my name, not my husbands. My DVC deed is issued into the name of my revocable living trust, of which I am the trustee and my DH is substitute trustee. The long and the short of it is that he is listed as an associate member. He cant even have HIS own membership card and he can't get the discounts unless I'm with him. My member benefits do extend to my immediate family but I have to be there for them to use them. So... that IS cracking down!! :scared1: No pool hopping for him. Not that we would because our pool is so awesome anyway (SSR). But that also means that he can't get the DVC discount on dining or shopping without me. :sad2:

thanks you for understanding my question, ;) and for explaining the distinction. the way you always word that phrase told me there was such a distinction!

Thanks so much for posting this! Now I know I can use both pools when I go to Wilderness Lodge :)

Just making sure I understand this and do not break any rules. We are DVC members using our points to stay at BCV next week and had planned on using the pools at the Polynesian and Contemporary on nights that we have dinner reservations to fill the gap between dinner and watching the fireworks over at MK. I understand I cannot "pool hop" at BLT but is using the pools at the resorts allowed?

From what I know is you need to call both resorts and ask how crowded their pools are going to be, since they will want to save any space for guests staying at those resorts.

However a few months ago the Polynesian started giving wristbands to guests staying there so they can get rid of illegal pool hoppers and because their whole volcano pool area is not that big, so I am not sure how that effects DVC members who want to pool hopp over there.

So I may have to check in with the life guards or front desk to get a wristband for the time we want to be there? Maybe we do that before our dinner reservations so we can plan our time accordingly in case pool hopping at those locations are not possible afterwards. DH may not like it but I always could kill a few hours shopping ;)

We are DVC. it really all depends on the crowd level at the pool. I pool hopped to the Grand Floridian one time. It was during Spring Break, when pool hopping was technically blacked out, however, it was a slightly cooler day, the pool was nearly empty and we were also guests of a family staying at GF. We had all had tea at the Garden View tea room and the girls wanted to swim together afterward. It was not a problem. Had it been crowded or at all busy, we would not even have asked since it was blacked out. But since basically my daughter and my friend's daughter and a maybe 3 other children were in the pool, they didn't care. More people were just sitting on the beach area not getting in the water because it was cool.

To 1 Minnie & 3 Mickeys: Here is some pool hopping info from the DVC site:
Pool Hopping Information
When staying on your Membership at Disney's Vero Beach Resort or any DVC Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools.

Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas. There are no exceptions to this policy. As a reminder, during times of high occupancy, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members and any Guests staying with them may not pool hop during the following dates*:

•February 20-26 (Sun – Sat)
•April 16 – April 30 (Sat – Sat)
•May 27 – 30 (Fri – Mon)
•June 26 – July 5 (Sun – Tue)
•September 2 – 5 (Fri – Mon)
•November 21 – 27 (Mon – Sun)
•Dec 11, 2011 – Jan 1, 2012 (Sun – Sun)

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity

I think that pretty well sums it up! The two pools I was looking to use are allowed and I am not in a date that pool hopping is not allowed. So check with lifeguard/front desk to see of they are at capacity (not likely...it would be in the evening after dinner hours) and we should be good. Just have to remember my blue DVC member card since DVC member is no longer on the KTTW card.

Thanks for all of the input everyone. I honestly did not know pool hopping was allowed at the resort hotels. I thought it was only DVC resorts. We also have never done any pool hopping before so I just wanted to make sure I had all of the facts straight. Would have never known it was an option if I had not come along this thread.

On a trip earlier this year, my DD8 and I hopped to the GF with no issues. (We were staying at AKL on points so we were legal.) We wanted to swim between our dinner at 1900 Park Fare and the fireworks, just like you suggested. No issues whatsoever. The lifeguard said, "Welcome Home!" and invited us to enjoy. He also thanked us for checking in. Poly's volcano pool was closed so we missed out on that one but we had a great time checking out other pools.

Many of the pools get very empty as the evening gets later. At Boardwalk we were the only ones in the pool around 8 PM! That Roller Coaster slide is awesome!!!

For those with upcoming stays at the Boardwalk Inn or Villas thought you should know on Saturday and Sunday the Lifeguards at the Luna Park Pool are now asking to see everyone's valid Key To The World Cards because everyone is getting wristbands on those specifc days. We asked what was the reason and they said Orlando locals were illegally swimming there and they didn't have any pool chairs left for registered guests staying at the Inn and Villas.

Woo Hoo! :cool1:

I'm thrilled about this & I've never even stayed at the Boardwalk. Glad to hear it.

Wow, we are staying at the Boardwalk next Friday/Sat. Really glad to hear this! Wonder if the wristbands are scrapbook worthy? :thumbsup2

If we are AKL guests are we allowed to use Samawati Springs? To be clear, we won't be using points and are not DVC members we will just be paying cash and staying in the AKLodge. I know we've been allowed to use BWV pool when we stayed at the BW and WLV pool when we stayed at the WL so I was hoping that there was the same sort of pool sharing system at AKL/Kidani. Thanks!
