how does it work?? When you eat at dinner every night.... do you tip them, I mean I imagine you would, but ive heard differently.... any input?

You tip eveyone on the last night of the cruise traditionally. With a couple of days left in the cruise, there will be envelopes left in your stateroom (Server, Asst Server, Head Server, Stateroom Host/Hostess). You may either tip cash, or much more easliy, go to Guest Services and let them know how much to tip each and they will provide you with a little slip to put in each envelope. These are then billed to your stateroom account. You then hand them out on the last evening. You can also fill out a card at anytime and drop it in a box at Guest Services, and they will then deliver the slips to your stateroom later.

Here is a handy cruise tip calculator to give you guidance on suggested tips:

This is direct from the DCL website and explains how gratuities work (you don't pay by the meal, you pay at the end of your cruise: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/faqs/onboard-services/gratuities/

There is also a ton of information in the "stickies" - messages that the moderators have locked at the top of the list of posts - that you might want to check out. Even scrolling through the threads to see what other people have posted can be a great resource!

Have a great cruise!!

You can also prepay your tips (DCL or your TA can do this for you).

I find this much more palatable than adding them to your rooms account at the end of the trip. I can always add more $$ to the tips when onboard, but the bulk of the tips are paid for. (Plus, if you are using the Disney Visa, pre-paid tips are part of your cruise fare and get the interest free credit period).

KayR - How does that work when you use the Disney Visa for tips? Do you just call DCL and give them your Disney CC and they put it on your OBC? Then how do your servers get their tips?
That sounds like a great way to do this ahead of time and you don't have to fool with bringing the cash on board.

You call DCL and add your tips to your booking. This will be added to your CC.

On the night before last on the ship (with your nightly turndown service) you will receive tip envelopes with "Head Server", "Server", "Asst. Server", "Room Host" on them. You will also receive a booklet with coupons in it. These coupons indicate who (by name and job) and how much the tip is.

You place the coupons in the appropriate envelopes (along with any additional tips, if you wish) and hand them out the last night to the people in the positions indicated.

If i have two state rooms do i pay each tip set separate or can i put it all in one envelope?

If you have the same room host, I would say that you could put the tip(s) in one envelope. Same thing for the servers, as long as they are same for both rooms = one envelope per position.
