Hello everyone,

My wife is making lanyards / pouches for our Key to the World for our cruise on Disney Dream. She was thinking it might be a good idea to make a pouch for our little guy that will hold the badge from the Mickey Detective Agency.

Could any of you who have sailed on Dream before please provide us with the dimensions of the badge and the clue-book that goes along with it?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

We were on the Dream in late June. The badge emblem is printed on one side of a cardstock form about 5" x 7". The symbol that activates the artwork to display the clues is printed on the other side of the card. The clue sheet is a tri-fold paper that is maybe 11" x 17" when unfolded...it includes a map of the ship to help you locate each of the clue-hiding pictures.

There are two adventures (help find the puppies from "101 Dalmations" or the missing artwork) and multiple possible perpetrators. My sister and I searched for the puppies. Even though we went to the same pictures at the same time, most of the time my badge displayed a different clue than hers. Ultimately we sleuthed Cruela DeVille stole the puppies in my adventure and Jabar stole them in hers! It was a lot of fun and a workout on the stairs. It took us about 90 minutes to find all of the pictures and see if we guessed the thief correctly. You can also go at your own pace and find the pictures during the course of your cruise. Have fun!

Ok cool, so 5" X 7" cardstock for the badge -- would you recommend borrowing some scissors and cutting to a more manageable size? Also, what are the folded dimensions of the clue sheet? Thanks again for the prompt reply!

The Detective Agency is only available on the Dream. I hope they add it to the other ships, it really is a lot of fun, even for grown ups : )

If you cut the badge out of the card, I don't think it will work. The symbol on the reverse side of the card activates the artwork to display the clue video. The symbol does not fit within the borders of the badge outline, so the attempt to make the badge a more manageable size may render it useless.

The Detective Agency is on the 5th deck. The badge cards (a pile of about 50 were there when we arrived), clue book/map and pencils are at the desk; it's completely self-service. Select your badge card from the pile and activate it by following the information on the computer video screen in the top of the desk. It gives you some information about the crime and some hints on how to use the badge at the artwork. I remember it also mentions returning the badge card to the desk after you solve the crime (although I'm sure many are taken home as souvenirs). The cluebook/map is probably 11" x almost 6" (an 11" x 17" paper page tri-folded). One side of the cluebook lists the names and "vital statistics" of the suspects (Disney villains) as well as space to write down the info from the clues that you unveil. The other side of the paper has a deck by deck "slice" diagram of the locations of the artwork clues (they're on decks 2 - 10).

If you go to YouTube and search Disney Dream Detective Agency you can see the badge cards, agency desk and artwork in action. It will also help your wife determine if she should consider the badge card size when making the lanyard/holder for your family members or to make it just large enough for your KTTW cards.

My sister and I completed the sleuthing in about 90 minutes, so we didn't find that carrying around the badge card or cluebook/map was unmanageable. However, if you're going to search for a few clues at a time and return to the search later, the badge card is stiff (cardstock) and both are probably too large to fold up to comfortably fit into a pocket. When my nephew and I sleuthed intermittently, I folded the forms and put them in my small wristlet and it was fine.

Have fun preparing for and on your cruise. Don't hesitate to ask questions here on the forums...I learned so much and was able to enjoy lots of special events and activities on the Dream. Are you going to get character autographs on a pillowcase or other item for your son?

I was told they dont do the autographs on the pillowcase anymore. :( Is that not true?

You can find photos of the clue sheet pages in a PDF file that you can download here. Just a warning, it also contains photos of clues from the hunt, so don't download if you want to be surprised. :goodvibes

I don't know about pillowcases, but we had two mattes signed on the DCL Dream at the beginning of this month. :thumbsup2

Autographs are alive and well as of June 26. I had a photo mat signed, my sister had a pillow case created for her son. You can choose the "classic" characters or the princesses. I hoped for signatures from some new characters, like Woody, Buzz, Lilo & Stitch, etc. but didn't get them. Maybe next time.

We just had a pillow sham and photo mat signed on the Dream July 1-5. The only thing guest services told me was that each stateroom is limited to 2 items total to be autographed. We chose all characters for ours and they both turned out really cute. I used a special mat that is made to be signed so that the characters had more space to sign (with space for an 8x10 photo).

What a cool idea!! Tell me more -- what size mattes did you use? Where and when did you drop them off?

You can do one pillowcase and one photo matte and give them both to GS at the same time. I went down the first afternoon and left them there. They were returned to our room late afternoon on the last full day of the cruise. We provided a matte to fit an 8x10. I also provided several colored Sharpies or fabric markers with each item. If you like, you can also include candy for the characters to enjoy while they autograph.
