Onboard DVC presentation? Any incentives?

Just wondering if anyone has attended the onboard DVC presentation. We are starting to consider DVC and wanted to know what kind of incentives are they offering?

Has anyone attended recently?

We went to the presentation last week and they were offering some great incentives.

*If you book while on the cruise.....
--$500 shipboard credit for that current cruise
--$$ off per point - I don't remember all of them, but the prices dropped from $120 a point to $108ish - $112ish a point depending on how many points you bought.
--Maintainence Fees were prorated for the rest of this year instead of having to pay all of 2011.
--Your points were given immediately upon joining and then you will receive next years points in Feb......so you could bank this years points with next years points and have a really good vacation!
--18 VIP Fast Passes for use at WDW if you booked by a certain day on the cruise!

Thanks for the quick response. Not sure about the $500 onboard credit but I'm sure we could figure out what to do with it.

I've been wondering about DVC too. Do you sign up for a presentation onboard? Is there an incentive just for going, or is the incentive only if you purchase?

There are a few presentations. They are in the Navigators. There is no need to sign up. They give out little giveaways (lanyards, hats, pins) through trivia questions, a drawing, and such.

When people say "incentives" they are generally referring to discounts or OBCs given for signing a contract during a cruise, so, yeah, they are for purchasing.

We bought in at a presentation on our July 5th Dream Cruise! The incentives were as listed above in the thread (depending on how many points you bought, you would get a discount up to $18 off per point so we bought enough to get them for $102/point).

Also during the presentation you could put your name in for a draw for a $300 shipboard credit (that's separate from the $500 shipboard credit you got for signing up.)

:goodvibesHow many points did you have to purchase to get the $500.00 shipboard credit??TIA!!:thumbsup2

Do your homework before the cruise. Understand exactly what you are buying. Also understand the differences between buying direct vs resale. The dvc forums are a great place to start. Then when on the cruise you can make an educated decision.

To get the $102/point price you had to buy 320 points.

You would automatically get the $500 shipboard credit, but I do believe the minimum they ask you to buy is 160 points.

From what I understand, if you are planning to do DVC, the onboard incentives are some of the best out there. I can't wait to use ours for the first time this fall!

Was this pricing for any / all of the current resorts for sale? I would be interested in a small add-on at Aulani - but probably not enough points to qualify for any incentive.:sad2: They usually don't offer any incentives for small add-ons (50 points or less).

If my memory is correct they also had a drawing for OBC just for attending the presentation. I was going to go, but they did not offer a convenient time. (6-7 AM would be a great time before the day gets started)

The incentives they were offering were for buying into Animal Kingdom Lodge only. But I'm sure you could've still bought into the other resorts (without incentives).

Bummer. I am only interested in adding on at Aulani. Thanks.

They just used Animal Kingdom Lodge as an example. Aulani was also available in the incentives......when we met with Tommy one on one he said they used Animal Kingdom Lodge during the presentation because it is most appealing to everyone who does not live in Florida. Since we live in Florida and only 40 minutes from WDW, he suggested we do Aulani as our home resort......Aulani also has lower yearly maintainence fees and closing costs!!! :cool1:

A lot of people will warn against using DVC points for cruises because it does take a lot of points. What some do (and what we plan to do) is pay for the first two people with points and the 3rd (or 4th or 5th person) with cash.

You would book directly through DVC (not on the DCL site or through a TA). Also keep in mind only a certain number of cabins are available for DVC points, so even if a cruise is NOT sold it, there may not be cabins available for points users.

You also get charged the transfer fee which I believe was $95. This is the first time we are using some points to cruise. Just didn't want to go through the hassle of renting the points for cash and then using the cash to cruise. That's what most people will do who want to leverage their DVC points for a cruise. It was a simple process though of just calling member services and they basically act as your travel agent through the whole process. Any requests I've had goes through them. It's been a great experience, but in the future I think I'd rent my points for cash first then use the cash to pay for the cruise. Points are much more valualbe that way.
