"IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES, IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES..."

Never has a quote from a Charles Dickens novel that I cannot stand (seriously, that book is AWFUL) been more appropriate. Our trip started off as a MAGICAL celebration of my 21st birthday, but it’ll wind up going down in the history books as ‘The Trip in Which We Lost Our Dog.’ Our beloved furry member of the family, Riley, became ill and passed away rather suddenly on July 6th, smack dab in the middle of our time at WDW (and the day after my birthday). It was absolutely heartbreaking, and, as I’m sure anyone who has lost a pet knows, his death left a void that not even a big, heaping pile of Disney magic could fill.

However, even though our trip ended with a whole lotta sadness, it did have its moments. We were having quite an enjoyable time up until that point. The food was delish (FREE DINING!!! WOOOO!!!), our resort - Coronado Springs - was beautiful, the weather was gorgeous (for the most part, but we’ll get to that later), the Disney Voice Guy was wishing me 'Happy Birthday', and my use of Stacey quotes was reaching a new high. Because of that, I’ve decided that I might as well try to salvage the good memories and write a trip report. Plus, I took a gajillion photos and I have a strong need to share them with people who will reply with something other than “Oh, that’s nice.” Why more people don’t get more excited about photos of giant, well-dressed rodents is beyond me.

Anyway, let’s get started! :cool1:

INTRODUCTIONS:

Me (Kara) – I’m a newly-minted 21 year old who pretty much lives and breathes Disney. I always have and I always will. There’s just nothing better than that feeling of pure joy and happiness that Disney can arouse. I just finished up my first ever trip report from last July (you can find the link in my signature if you’d like to read it) and, frankly, I’m starting to think that trip report writing is my true calling in life. I mean, why bother with classes and homework when I could just have people pay me to tag along on their vacation, take thorough notes, and write an awesome trip report when we get back. Screw college!

Here’s a rather festive photo of me doing what I do best: eating.

Mom and Dad – My wonderful, fabulous, Disney-loving parents who work super hard to feed my addiction (while also silently wishing I fell head over heels in love with something a little cheaper, I’m sure). Of course, they don’t march about the parks in the insane Florida heat just for me. They cherish our WDW vacations just as much as I do.

I’m sure you can figure out who is who :upsidedow

Katie – My 19 year old thrill-seeking, good-time-having sister who I simply adore. Seriously, she’s the best. Sure, she tends to complain a lot when we’re not doing something (she’s all about action and gets bored easily), but I couldn’t have asked for a better little sis.

The young lad (not the dino) in the photo with my sis is Wade – Katie’s boyfriend. This was his first trip to WDW with us (though he had been once before as a kid) and we were all quite excited to have some fresh meat to drag around the parks. Plus, it was extremely nice to have another guy around to help carry all of the luggage. ;)

THINGS TO NOTE:
We stayed at Coronado Springs July 3rd – 8th. Thanks to free dining (well, free quick service dining that we paid to upgrade) we were on the dining plan for the first time ever. It was quite an experience. I’ll be reviewing table service meals at T-Rex, Crystal Palace, Les Chefs de France, Cape May Café, Boma, and 1900 Park Fare along with a bunch of counter service meals and snacks. We hit all 4 parks (and Downtown Disney) and were lucky enough to experience the 4th of July festivities at both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

So, that’s that. Before I cut this off and rush to start a Table of Contents, I’d just like to thank you all in advance for joining me on what is, I’m sure, going to be a sometimes wild, sometimes hysterical, sometimes ugly tear-inducing look back at our six days in WDW. I mean, the spectrum of emotions I experienced over the course of those six days is INSANE. I’m quite certain psychologists would’ve loved to have me hooked up to a bunch of those brain wave scanning machines because I dealt with A LOT. I’m just glad I have a place to come back to and share all those emotions with people who “get” it. Not everyone does, but you guys do, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for “listening.” :goodvibes

I'm here! I've had some of the world's worst birthdays...I've pretty much given up on them now. My 21st was no where quite as bad as that, but it was on Mardi Gras (which sounds fun, right?!) and the entire town was dead since we had to go out early in the night since I had mid-terms the next day along with a meeting with someone from our sorority's National Office since I held an official position within it. FUN...

And on my 13th, our car was stolen out of the Philadelphia parking garage and totaled. It was 18 days old.

I am going for my bday in sept and going to several of the same places for dinner. Looking forward to reading your tr!!

I'm here Kara! I guarantee you I will cry at some point during this TR, as I am already tearing up at the intro....

BTW, that is a cupcake from Starring Rolls in your intro, isn't it?! I've never had one but I've been eying them for a while now and they are on my must-do list next trip!

Okay I've DE-LURKED just for you Kara :goodvibes I'm along for the ride. Now going back to read :surfweb:

First, let me say how sorry I am to hear about Riley. It's never easy losing a pet. I lost my "Gracie" last year and it was more like losing a member of my family.
Second, :thumbsup2 you're back in the world! A belated Happy Birthday:bday: to you. That huge muffin/cup cake you are eating in the first picture looks absolutely delicious. Is it red velvet?
I'm looking forward to hearing all about this year's trip.

I'm here!! Again, I'm so sorry about your dog:goodvibes but I'm excited to read about your trip! :)

I'm here, of course! :goodvibes I can't wait to read all about this trip as well! I hope it's not too sad.. but I may shed a tear :( Wow, these trip reports are just like novels.

And I agree about writing TRs being a calling in life... seriously I'd rather do that than go to college. Why can't we just get paid for material like this!? :lmao:

I'm excited for your food reviews... that Red Velvet cupcake looks fantastic! (i've never had one before! that needs to change!)

Can't wait for the trip to begin! :yay:

I'm in!

So sorry about your dog. :( I totally know how that feels. I've grown up with pets (aka dogs) my whole life and when my first dog died it was awful. I wasn't in the most magical place on Earth when it happened, I wish I was, but I want to see how it helped in certain ways. I may shed a tear then :'(

Moving away from the sad stuff, I can't wait to read about the celebratory aspects of this TR, since it was your birthday and I'm (hopefully) going for my 16th next spring :goodvibes I'm hoping this will help in some way, especially with all those ADRs and being there 4th of July weekend :goodvibes

Can't wait to read all about your trip! :mickeyjum

I'm here! I spent hours last night reading your last TR so im excited about this one. Im soo sorry to hear about your dog :( I can't wait to read some more :yay:

I'm in! I read you're last TR and loved it, but I never got a chance to comment. I'm so sorry about you're dog. I've never had a pet outside of a tank or cage, but I understand the sadness. You're birthday is right before mine :goodvibes. Cause mine was on Sunday (the 10th). Anyways, I'm looking forward to more!

Hi there! I lurked on your PTR, so I thought I'd officially join your TR! I'm so sorry about your dog:sad1: I lost my dog that I grew up with about 3 years ago, he was like a little brother to me, so I know how you feel. Hopefully your trip was still fun though, and I can't wait to hear about your adventures!

im so sorry about your dog i my do just passed away this past tuesday it was the worst thing ever i couldnt go two minutes without crying (still really cant) so i cant imagine being at disney when it happened but i cant wait to read the trip report i followed you on twitter so i know some stuff but cant wait to read in detail.

I am a longtime lurker of your TR's.....joining in on this one! Can't wait to hear all about it! :yay:

YAY! So many comments! You guys rock!!! :thumbsup2

Oh dear...Well, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who tends to have completely miserable birthdays. It makes me feel a bit better to know that the universe doesn't just have it out for me.

Welcome! You are going to have so much fun in September. Disney does an excellent job of making you feel special on/around your birthday.

Hey Nikki! I started working on the first installment last night and started crying so hard that I had to stop. I have a feeling that's going to be happening a lot.

Yep, it's the Red Velvet Cheesecake cupcake from Starring Rolls! Omg that thing was DELICIOUS. I definitely recommend it.
I'm here! I'm here!
Hi, Tink! Thanks for coming along!

Thank you. It definitely feels like we've lost a member of the family. I'm so sorry about your Gracie, as well.

Yep, it's the Red Velvet Cheesecake cupcake from Starring Rolls at the Studios. It was DELISH. Two thumbs up from me!

I'm here!! Again, I'm so sorry about your dog:goodvibes but I'm excited to read about your trip! :)
Yay! Welcome! And thank you!
Yes, I made it to the first page!
WOOOHOOOO! Welcome, Yuki!

Hey Jess! There will be some sad moments, but I promise that it won't be all sad. I'm far too humorous a person for complete and total sadness. I mean, even when I'm crying hysterically I tend to be cracking jokes and laughing about something.

Definitely get the cupcake next time you're there. You won't regret it. :thumbsup2

Welcome!

There were many pro's (and con's) to it happening while at WDW. Obviously, there isn't an ideal place to be when your dog passes away, but at least I had a bunch of things/people/food around to distract me. :rotfl:

Oooo, I really hope you get to go for your birthday next spring! Birthdays at WDW are AMAZING. (Except for the rare case in which your dog dies. ;))
I'm here! I spent hours last night reading your last TR so im excited about this one. Im soo sorry to hear about your dog :( I can't wait to read some more :yay:

Happy Belated Birthday!!!! :dance3:
