What are we supposed to order at Palo?

We'll be boarding the Magic next week and really looking forward to our trip!
We've reservations for dinner at Palo. I had a look at the menu and am a bit confused...
Can you experts tell me how a typical meal at Palo looks like? How many courses do you normally order?

A typical meal at Palo is whatever you desire to order. Want two soups? Order it. An appetizer as your entree? Order it. Anything you see on the menu is yours - even two if you can eat it all.

There's no set way to order. Order whatever you want and they will bring it. They might even bring you extra stuff.

Just off the Dream -- Palo was terrific (as was Remy's).

At both -- we took the advice of our server and weren't disappointed.

We did have an extra appetizer, the margherita pizza. No problem at all.

I had the sea bass and it was superb!

Just wanted to add - be sure to save room for the chocolate soufflé desert. And when they bring it and ask if you want chocolate or vanilla sauce on it, the answer is "yes".

Just make sure to order the chocolate souflee (however you spell it) for dessert early as it takes a while to cook.

Hello Willem,

We're on the same ship. You just order what you want and in any order and if you can't decide, they bring your choice that you were deliberating over. But as other posters have said The Chocolate Souffle is an absolute positively definite must. But even though it is bad mannered to order your desert at the beginning it is an absolute must. We always drop hints about them and it has always been successful. And you must do brunch if you like seafood. OMG DH and I just can't wait. I don't know who is most excited, us or the children.

If there is something that looks good and you want to try then try it......EVERYTHING is yummy and worth at least one try. You can tell your server what you want smaller samples of as opposed to ordering a full size of something you just want to try.

You MUST MUST MUST order the Chocolate Souffle.

Our server walked us through the menu, made suggestions, and brought out some smaller samples of things we wanted to try . He advised us that if we were possibly interested in the chocolate souffle that we should order it with our dinner so it would have time to be prepared. It is so wonderful so make sure that you order at least one. But if you don't like to share, get two! Everything was wonderful from start to finish!!!

We love food and love to talk about food. So we always end up with WAY more food than we ordered because the cast member always bring us extra stuff "to try" once they figure out that we are insane foodies.

Our standard for Palo is:
split a flat bread pizza
my husband gets an appetizer and I always get the minestrone soup (YUM)
We ask for a small side of one of the pasta or risotto dishes
We each order an entree (I almost always get the halibut - it is so wonderful)
We each order dessert

Then we waddle back to our cabin (usually with an extra dessert that our server is sure we may want to eat later!)

Eat lightly all day - it's worth it.

Also - the Palo brunch is fantastic. If you can fit it in your schedule - you should give it a try.

We too want to book Palo but my DH has more of a "simple" taste for foods and he would really enjoy some good pizza or lasagna..I saw pizza on the menu but not lasagna, do they serve this and more other simple dishes??

Thank you for this! I am glad to see the portions are on the smaller side which means I won't feel bad about ordering several different courses. If they were huge I was just thinking a small salad, main and trying to shove down dessert. Now I can get an appetizer and maybe a pizza too (but passing on the bread as that seems like it will take up precious space for the truly good stuff!)

Our server's suggestions were great at Palo too
We had Felice (on the Dream) and he suggested one dish from each catagory. We went with the lobster ravioli with truffle sauce for me and the rack of lamb for my DH. Both were great!! Felice even brought out an extra plate of the lobster ravioli as he knew I wouldn't want to share with my DH

Funny thing was when it came time for dessert we decided to go with something different (the chocolate pistachio cake) and Felice, for a second, gets a "deer in the headlights" kind of look. He never made a big deal or anything but we realized when the dessert arrived that it was a bit heavier and richer than we wanted. Neither of us finished it and honestly told him when he asked what we thought (good but too heavy).

Then I ordered the tiramasu coffee and Felice gets that same look Sure enough, the drink comes and it is not what I expect. It is a layered coffee drink that is cold and served in a martini glass. The top layer is a flavored vodka and I quickly realize I have to mix this up if I'm going to drink it (Felice did warn me that the first sip was strong).
The drink was good, just not what I expected.

So...bottom line...ask the server for his/her suggestions-they know what the popular dishes are and can give you a more complete description than what is in the menu.

Theoretically, you can order any dish any way you want in any dining area. The reality is that in the main dining room they have many more people to serve than in Palo or Remy. I have heard that they prefer that you order full size dishes (as many as you want) in the main dining rooms because that is just easier for them to get quickly from the kitchen

The main dining room is a bit hit and miss with servers. If you get an experienced one they can handle special requests easier than a newbie. The ones we had recently on the Dream ran their tails off just getting us the regular dishes. Not sure if they could handle any special requests

Palo and Remy have the more experienced servers and they are used to accomodating special requests. We wound up just going with the tasting menus on our June trip. Each dish is small in size, but we were full at the end anyway. I've heard that you can order as many dishes as you want, but then it takes them longer to prepare and serve and dinner can get long (3+ hours). We were out in less than 3 hours partly because we had an early seating (6 pm) and we stuck to the set tasting menu. They've also changed the Remy menu recently, keeping their most popular dish from the previous menu and making the others more appealing to a larger group.

We did eat too much of the bread on our first trip to Victoria and Albert's (at the Grand Floridian) and tend to try to limit our bread at the more upscale restaurants now too.

However...
If you wind up doing Remy, they offer bread from a platter and one of the choices is a truffle brioche that is wonderful

There was brioche in the main dining room too, but that truffle oil they add to the one in Remy really makes a difference.

I'm a plain jane kind of eater and I've never had a problem at Palo. I order the plain pizza (crust, cheese and light sauce) and the beef tenderloin/filet (whichever is on the menu that cruise) with sauce on the side. They have no problem with my requests. I also highly recommend the chocolate souffle! DH makes them at home using the recipe from the Disney cookbook and it really does taste the same (we substitute Hershey's dark choc syrup and whipped cream for the homemade choc and vanilla sauces). Enjoy!
