Since I don't want to delay my Disneymoon TR too long, I think I will combine some of my wedding posts since I could probably go on for a couple weeks if I didn't! I have tons of pictures, so there will be multiple posts for each "event". Also, there will be a mixture of my own pictures and my photographers pictures (Janet Howard Studios). When posting one of her pictures, I will post (JHS Photo) under the photo so that you will know and so that she will get credit. Ok - on to the getting ready posts!!!

WEDDING DAY – GETTING READY Pt. 1

7:30 am dawned on the morning of Saturday, June 18 and I awoke feeling calm and refreshed. I couldn’t believe that after a year and a half of being engaged and a year of intense planning, that my wedding day was finally here. I had no problem getting up and getting freshened up for the day. My maids of honor woke up quickly as well and we all waited for our pre-ordered room service to arrive.

The night before we had scheduled for some food to be delivered at 8:00 and it arrived right on the dot! I know that a lot of brides don’t eat on their wedding day, but I was determined to eat on mine! While I love to eat, I completely lose my appetite if I am nervous, anxious, pretty much feeling any strong emotion, so I wondered if I actually would be able to eat. My DOC had stressed the importance of it many times, but told me that she would have a granola bar with her at the venue incase I needed some nourishment right before walking down the aisle. She also suggested fruit the day of the wedding, but I had something else in mind…

CARBS!!!

And lots of them! After trying not to ingest too many of them leading up to the wedding, I was more than happy to chow down on my favorite food group. LOL. For my breakfast I ordered cream cheese filled French toast. I of course had to have some sweet tea, too!

MOH #1 got scrambled eggs with the traditional breakfast accompaniments while the other MOH got pancakes and yogurt with granola. We also ordered a couple side orders to share: grits and bacon!

Everything was very good, but we ended up leaving over half of the food. We had definitely ordered way too much!

About 8:30, my grandfather and aunt stopped by to drop of the girls Maid of Honor shirts. My grandmother had made them for the ladies, and we thought they would make cute getting ready shirts. We completely forgot to get them Friday night, so my grandfather said he would bring them over before the hair and makeup artist arrived. Funny story about the shirts – they were t-shirts (as you will see) which obviously doesn’t work well for getting out of when trying not to mess up your hair. My grandmother was so adamant about the girls wearing them, though, that she decided that she would just bring along a pair of scissors and cut them out of the shirt when it was time for them to get dressed!

My grandfather and aunt left and the girls slipped into their shirts while I cleared off our massive breakfast and called room service to come pick up our plates. He arrived within minutes and our room was nice and clean for the getting ready festivities. Soon after, the hair and makeup artist, Jennifer arrived right at her scheduled time of 8:45 and she began setting up.

At 9:00, the beautifying began! My cousin, MOH #1 went first while my other MOH showered and blow-dried her hair.

Jennifer had two stations set up – one for makeup since it was by the window and the lighting was good, and other for hair, which was by all of the electrical outlets. It was so nice having lots of room!

Neither of my girls had particular ideas in mind about their hair or makeup, but my cousin did decide at the last minute that she would like a hairstyle that she had for her prom recreated. Jennifer did an amazing job and it turned out exactly like she wanted!

Next up was my best friend, MOH #2. She also didn’t have anything in mind and let Jennifer come up with something. She ended up going with a very Audrey Heburn-esque up-do that looked amazing. I don’t think I have ever seen my friend look so beautiful! Audrey is her favorite actress and her style-icon so it was a very appropriate look for her!

A little before my bff was done getting ready, my mom and grandmother arrived, since they were having their hair and makeup done as well. Well, my grandmother was only having her makeup done, and she was next up!

As you can tell, she was doing her own hair, hence the massive rollers!

My grandmother’s decision to have her makeup done was very last minute, as she attended the trial with me and decided that since Jennifer did such an amazing job that she wanted her makeup done as well. However, my grandmother wears very minimal makeup, so she was pretty unsure about having it done. When Jennifer was finished, my grandmother went into the large bathroom to do her hair and she actually ended up removing some of her makeup. Jennifer had applied eyeliner to her lower lash line, which she wasn’t comfortable with, but other than that her makeup looked beautiful.

Last up before me was my mother. Jennifer ended up creating a very “sexy librarian” look for my mother as we called it. She turned out beautiful just as the other ladies had!

Finally, it was my turn!

Soon after I moved into the “hair chair” our wonderful photographer, Janet, and her assistant who happened to be named Courtney, arrived. At this point, it all became very real!

Part 2 is continued in the next post! Click Here!

WEDDING DAY - GETTING READY Pt. 2

When I left off, the photographers had just showed up and the hair and makeup artist, Jennifer was still putting the finishing touches on my do.

There was also another very important task at hand – eat some lunch! I continued my trend of eating more than any bride should on her wedding day and chowed down on, you guessed it, ore carbs! We ended up ordering a quesidilla, a pizza and some macaroni & cheese, although that was for everyone to share. In reality, I only ate one small piece of the quesidilla, one small piece of pizza (think personal sized) and a few bites of mac & cheese, although at the time it seemed like a big accomplishment for the day!

Meanwhile, the two photographers, Janet and Courtney, escaped into the bedroom to take all of the detail shots while Jennifer finished up on my hair and makeup. We brought an extra copy of our invitation and program for the girls to shoot, along with the rings and the dress, of course.

Around 2:00, my father showed up, Jennifer completed her work, the photographers finished up on the detail shots, and it was finally time to get me into the dress!

I will say that this was the only time of the day that I started to stress out a bit, and not to sound like a bridezilla, but it really was other people’s fault. As I mentioned, I was completely calm up until that point (and thankfully was after, too) but once it was time for the dress to go on, people started to freak out a bit. My grandmother kind of lost it (although I didn’t know it at the time, but my MOH #1 told me about it later) and my father tried way too hard to be in control of the dress. I had taken my two MOH’s with me to my last fitting so they could learn how to lace up my dress, and they both had it down pat. MOH #2 was a great lacer because she’s really meticulous, and MOH #1 was a great tightener because she’s got a lot of strength. My father however, wanting to be the one to lace me up, kind of took over and I think in the attempt to kind of show that she knew what she was doing, MOH #1 actually tore one of the loops on my dress.

Believe it or not, I managed to stay pretty calm during what turned out being the only thing that went wrong during the entire day. My father had brought a sewing kit, and quickly enough the tear was repaired and I was laced up. I did at one point shut myself in the bedroom with just my two MOH’s because there were just way too many people trying to get me in the dress, but it all worked out ok and that was thankfully, the biggest stressor I had all day. Once that moment was over, I was back to my calm self and continued to get ready!

Slowly but surely we all got ready. I think all of the ladies looked beautiful, and I could already see the design of the wedding coming together just in the colors of their dresses.

Around 3:00, we got the call that the driver was downstairs. We paused for a quick picture on the beautiful “fainting chair” in our suite.

Then it was down to the lobby of the hotel! I was really nervous about walking through the lobby in my dress, but there thankfully weren’t that many people and it wasn’t bad at all. The car was there waiting on us and my girls and I all piled in. It was during this time that I realized how hard it was to sit down, though! Because of the style of the dress, my cleavage was literally in my chin and was generally uncomfortable, and I felt pretty self-conscience, too! I could tell right then and there that I wouldn’t be sitting too much that night. Thankfully my shoes were comfortable!

After about 15 minutes, we pulled up to the venue, and since the photographer was about 5 minutes behind us, we had the opportunity to go in and see the ceremony and cocktail hour spaces coming together. As soon as I saw the beautiful centerpieces that the florist had created, the lovely color of the linens that we chose, the programs laid out on the chairs, and the amazing trees that we brought into the ballroom, I knew that my vision was going to be realized. Obviously it was still in the early phases, but everything looked amazing and I was so very pleased.

Finally, the photograher arrived and we went outside to get some shots with me, the bridesmaids and my family!

Omg so behind!!! But all caught up.. I was anxiously awaiting your return to read about all your exciting adventures!! Glad to see your back and hD great trip!!!

As I have said before, snafu's happen, but I am glad that it was a minor one that could be fixed rather quickly.

I also made sure I ate protein and carbs on the morning of my wedding day and I had a granola-ish bar before walking down the isle (I have a tendency to faint sometimes; don't know why, it just happens!)

On another note::
YOU LOOKED GORGEOUS!!!!! That dress looked stunning on you!!!

I can see the vision you have of your wedding coming together with the colors of the girls dresses as well :) I can not wait for the other posts about the wedding! I just know it will all be beautiful and wonderful :)

Congratulations, Courtney! I've been anticipating your arrival back to the boards, and darn if I didn't miss it!
