Booking with Disney Rewards Visa for 6 month/0%

I posted this over on the Resorts board but haven't been able to get an answer and was hoping some of you budget experts could help!

I've had my Visa for years but have never done this. I'd like to book a trip and take advantage of the interest free financing but have a couple of questions.

Can I book a discounted package with this offer? What about with an AP discount? I have an annual pass but everyone else would need tickets.

Who do I book through? Is it possible to book online?

Thanks!

Jennifer

I'll try to help. :)

As long as you book with Disney, you'll get the 6-months-no-interest deal. We always use some sort of deal; the last several times it's been with the military discount and it's been on a separate section of my credit card statement saying it has "special financing." It gives you the date that the 6 months ends, also.

I *think* that package reservations are the only ones you can get the no-interest financing on, not room-only reservations. You get the no-interest financing on the initial $200 deposit as well as subsequent payments.

As an AP holder, you can book an AP package with just room + dining and the others in your party can buy their tickets separately. If you don't want the dining plan, at least a 1-day ticket would have to be purchased for each person to make it a package and eligible for the no-interest financing. (You can save yours to apply to your AP renewal; it won't expire.)

You should be able to book either online or by calling Disney. I always call, but it shouldn't make a difference.

Hope this helps!

You don't have to book through Disney to get the 0% financing, you just need to use the Disney card and it is only good for a package or cruise vacation, not room only. I've booked through both Dreams Unlimited and Small World Vacations and got the 0% every time. You will get 6 months 0% on the deposit amount and then another 6 months 0% from the final payment amount. Just make sure you make the minimum payment on the card every month even if all you have is the 0& purchased item!

Good information; I didn't know that, as I always book directly through Disney. Too much of a control freak about my Disney vacations to allow anyone else to book it! :rotfl:

FYI -

note that any credits that are applied towards your accounts (ie returns that got you a credit) get applied to the special finance balance.

So say you charge your $200 deposit, but next month you do get $50 credit due to a return, your special promotion balance is now $150.

BIG issue if you pay your balance in full. I would have paid the balance less $200, but if I would do that, then that difference would incurr fiance charges!

I had that happen to me with my previous package purchases, but hasn't that changed since the new legislation that payments need to go to the highest-interest balances first?:confused3

I added an extra day to my trip (room only) and they added it to the 6 mon. 0% special. It shows as a seperate transaction and with a due date 6 months after I booked the extra night but it may be because I added to a package...

If you use a travel agent, they have to book through Disney for you, in order to get this offer. The charge on your card has to come from Disney.

So, could I book the current AP rate with my Disney Visa and get the 0% financing? I'm thinking of adding the QSDP if that makes a difference. I wouldn't be buying any tickets so I'm not sure if that would be a package?

Just fair warning, we had an issue with the 6 month free financing last year.

We always pay our cc balances in full each month, but of course wanted to take advantage of the 0% financing. So when the first bill came I called Dis Visa to ask how I should handle the payment and was given WRONG information. I was told to pay all the "non-trip" charges in full (the CS rep even calculated that for me) and that was all I would owe. BUT because that amount was less than the "minimum due", I was socked with hefty fees/penalties/interest. I of course called back and was able to reference my earlier conversation (which they could see in my account records) and get everything credited, but it was still a HUGE hassle that took about 2 months to fully clear up on my account.

So if you find yourself in a similar situation, the correct answer is to pay the "minimum due" amount PLUS all the non-trip charges. If you have no non-trip charges, then you just pay the minimum amount due.

We decided to play it safe and just paid 1/3 of the balance (way more than the minimum due each month) for 3 consecutive months. We didn't get the full benefit of the interest free 6 months, but we felt better knowing I wouldn't have to spend any more time on the phone with the CS reps trying to correct a mistake.

It is considered a package if you add a dining plan. In 2010 I booked a military rate + QSDP (no tickets required for a military rate, they assume you're buying the Military Salute tickets) and it was 6-months-no-interest. I did the same thing in 2011. Both the $200 deposit and the final balance were considered interest-free for 6 months.
