It goes to the state senate on Friday. It's going to be a tight one but it could happen. Fingers crossed.

(It was passed by the Assembly on the 16th when I first posted.)

I am sending every bit of positive energy I can that way. I hope, I hope, I hope.:goodvibes THEN I hope Robach's bill does not result in it being overturned in Nnovember:headache:

Also sending positive vibes. DD18 has been giving us twitter updates all day and is off to the student union tomorrow to keep communications open.

My wife shocked me when she asked if NY passed the bill into law, would I want to move back... :guilty:

My gut is it won't happen this round, I hope I'm wrong. As of Friday, one more vote was needed in the Senate. We'll see. I do believe it will happen in the next year or two.

New York is already a pretty good place to live for LGBT. My employer offers DP benefits, my partner was able to adopts our children with a second parent adoption. To me another state passing a marriage law for same-sex couples in another step towards federal recognition. We had a union ceremony in 1996proclaiming our love and commitement to each other. We have no plans on getting legally married until doing so would give us protections and advantages that hetero married couples recieve today.

It looks like we have 33 votes (we needed 32) in favor of same-sex marriage. They are waiting to announce the official results---but it looks like we'll have at least 33 yes votes. I can't tell you how happy we are to be residents of Rochester, NY.....and now able to plan our wedding:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Yup...we win.....we didn't realize we'd have SUCH an emotional reaction...but we literally broke down in tears. It's such an amazing moment for us and all of LGBT brothers and sisters here in NY....and we sincerely hope this decision will start to turn the tide in other parts of the country.

Amen, brother.

Honestly, I didn't think the NYS senate would approve this time around, I've never been so happy to be wrong.

I was asleep when our best friend called us (and DP was locked outside, but that's just coincidence). I don't think I"m going back to sleep anytime soon.

Now we just have to either keep it OFF the ballot or, if it gets put on the ballot, we have to make sure we mobilize equality-minded NYers to go out to the polls and vote to maintain equality for all New Yorkers....so we don't end up with the same unfortunate nonsense that California and Maine had to deal with with Proposition 8 and Question 1 stripping NYers of their rightful marriage benefits granted by their state legislatures!

Absolutely!!

My partner and I are in Rochester, NY too!! Equal Grounds was awesome and got some excellent news coverage it looked like. I'm so excited for what the NY senate did tonight. It gives me hope that maybe one day in the not too distant future that we will have the right to marry anywhere in this country.

I'll have to check the local news outlets online. (we don't have television)

:yay: Yahoo!:yay: I hope this builds momentum for the other states.

Marika (DD14) and I are the only two up yet here in Germany but we were both crying reading Erik's email before we even saw it here. It IS emotional. I am so SO happy for all who can now FINALLY have the same rights i have taken for granted for years.

and I HATE that any of the joy of this decision has to be marred by even thinking about this:headache:
