do you give yourself incentives?

I have debt, a little too much. And while i know the feeling of being debt free will be beyond anything I could ever imagine, I just put a ticker in my signature to give myself even more of an incentive. I'm giving myself 2 years to pay off ALL debts, consumer, loans, car, everything. And then a few months on top of that to save and to pay cash for a long weekend trip to the world. It obviously won't happen if i fail (which I won't :) ) but I think it would be beneficial and fun to have another light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm sure i'll get a lot of negative responses, and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. And any advice, tips, all of that would be awesome too!

I think an incentive is a great idea. Paying down debt does require some sacrifices, and it makes things easier (for me at least) to have a goal in mind.

P.S. I also like your ticker. Great visual cue!

Great idea...when you know you will get rewarded in the end it is a little easier to say no to buying the cup of coffee or getting take out...

I just paid off my car...woooohooo (felt so great). We have a credit card bill that just yesterday I paid a big chunk and it is now $10,000. I almost paid another .01 or so so it could be 9,999.99 (under 10K) does anyone else do that lol. That is our last thing and we have 0% till april (hoping to pay $1000 a month and have it paid off by then). But we do have a disney trip planned (well nothing booked yet) for Jan. I would have waited till the debt was paid but DS will start Kinder next July and we dont want to go when it is hot or crowded so Jan was really the best time for us...

Yes, I do this!

DH & I have a 0% interest credit card that we are almost done paying off. We transferred the balance from a personal loan that was at 8.99% to this credit card and we have until the end of March 2012 to pay it off - which is the plan! The balance is $4,490 .... I paid an extra $10 to bring the balance under $4,500.

DH & I did say back in 2009 that we weren't going back to WDW until that personal loan was paid off but we went to Disney last October. :rolleyes1 Yes, we are weak! (We are going back to WDW this year but it's a gift from my MIL for our 20 year anniversary.)

OP - Good luck!
