Disney's ALL-STAR MUSIC RESORT Family Suites Information & Questions

Forgive me if this has already been answered but I couldn't find any info on it. I have 4 kids and I was wondering if there was a playground at the ASM resort. We will be staying there in OCT for 2 weeks.

According to the Disney web-site there is a playground, between the Calypso and Jazz buildings.

These sound nice for when my family of 5 comes back in a couple of years. I am curious to see how the new Animation Suites turn out next summer as well.

Thank you for this thread! We are looking at the suites for Thanksgiving 2012. I'm also interested in the new animation hotel. I know we can book for 2012 in August...so I wonder if I should go ahead and book at Music since there aren't many suites or wait until we can book the new hotel?

These look so great though. We stayed in one value this year and it was just not big enough for the 5 of us. Also, I really wished we had a fridge and coffee pot!

We will be having a large family going to Disney in July. We wanted to book a FS and a Standard room. Just wondering if we can have both of these rooms close by or will we have to book a preferred room so we can be close by?

i would imagine you'd have to book a preferred to have a better chance of being close to the suite.

I agree, you would need to request preferred and try to give the building # as well. Building 1 or 10, I believe. Have a great time.

Family suites are in Calypso and Jazz buildings, but only the Calypso buildings are considered preferred. You could just request one of the Jazz buildings (building 2 or 9) for both reservations and ask the reservations to be linked.

As you can see from the map, even if the standard room is preferred, it could still be far from your Family Suite. (Much depends on which side of the building your room is located.)

We are staying in the fam suite late Oct early Nov for 9 nights/10 days

There will be 5 of us, 2 adults and three kids ages 10, 11, 12

It is costing us quite a bit more than it would cost us to stay at POR but we really need the 2 bathrooms and the separate bedroom for mom and dad. The three kids get the sleepers in the living room. The kitchenette will enable us to eat breakfast in the room and save some money, We will have our own car to drive so I am not going to try out Disney busses,

I don't do well in crowds or heat. That's why we picked 10/28-11/6 for lower crowds and better weather, Cross my fingers.

This is good to know. I wasn't sure if bringing a toaster would be allowed or not, but I guess since the kitchenette area has a microwave then a toaster would be considered ok. I looked at photos of the different types of DVC units and in the studio unit kitchenette there is a toaster so I guess it is safe to assume they would be fine to have in the family suite kitchenette too without going against any policies.

I plan on taking a toaster in for our family suite. We can make bagels, Toast, waffles granola bars, protein bars and even cereal, maybe some donuts. Not all with the toaster of course.

We don't drink coffee so no need for a coffee maker for us. But we will have a microwave in the kitchenette so if you add in a toaster it should be set up nicely to make quick simple easy breakfasts.

Just switched my ressie from POR to ASMu Family Suite! I'm very excited! We are family of 6 and the more I thought about cramming all of us into one room...the more I started researching!

I was able to book using the Kids Stay/Play Free package. It expires soon so I was suprised there was still availability! :yay:

I was sad to give up my free dining but happy to have a bit more space! :)

You may not have to give up free dining. If free dining comes out for your trip dates just rebook it under free dining, you lose the one small promotion that wasn't a very big savings to begin with and then save hundreds or even thousands by getting the dining free,,, keep your eye on the Disney special promotions page.

I guess the decision for POR vs. Family Suite would be what you value. It's an extra $40 a night.
Consider:
1. The pool at POR has a slide ... will you or the kids be disappointed without one?
2. The kitchenette at ASMu means you could eat some breakfasts there with the micro and bigger fridge ... would you be able to bring some food, use a delivery service, or pick some food up to save you some of that extra money?
3. Is the bed setup -- queen in the bedroom, three beds in the living area -- better or worse for you than two doubles and a trundle? Would having a door between you and your kids allow everyone to sleep better? Do you plan to return to your resort for naps?
4. Would you use the TS restaurant or the boat to DTD at POR?
5. Would your kids enjoy the free poolside activities at ASMU or the activities offered at POR?

Honestly it comes down to whether that extra $400 buys you enough "value" to make it worth staying there. I think that's why anyone pays for any resort -- they value the convenience of a monorail, having queen beds, a nice view, walking distance to Epcot, a kitchen, etc.

I had us booked in POR originally until I found out more about the fam suite/size/number of bathrooms number of sinks, kitchenette, everybody has their own place to sleep. Just having the two bathrooms at night when it is time for 5 ppl to shower/bathe will be priceless. It is going to cost us/has cost us $400 something more to stay in the suite over POR but I just can't stand the thought of being crammed all in there like a can with one sleeping in the floor right by the door. I switched us from POR to ASMu FS and never looked back. I think the space from the double sized room will make things way more tolerable for all of us.

And saving us $40 every morning by making our own breakfast in the room will add up over 10 days.

Now you can find bigger room when you are talking about villas with more than one bedroom in them but as far as standard rooms, ASMu Fam suite is the biggest on property.
And knowing you are in disney's biggest resort room at over 500 sq ft. 540 if memory serves me right.

I stayed in a family suite in August 2008 (for Tropical Storm Faye). We were there for 2 weeks and had friends who came in the middle of our stay. Our reservations were linked and they were in a standard room just a few doors down from us in a Jazz building.

Thank U! I will request to stay in the Jazz Building!

In the first post of the tread, the bed between the chair and the couch, is that the red ottomen? I just want to make sure I get where all the beds come from and set up best.

yes, the ottoman. We pushed the ottoman into the bedroom and set it up next to the bed (I slept in the bed, DD (3) slept in the ottoman bed next to me. DH & DS slept in the living room.

Thank you everyone for the info. I think I finally found our next room. (I was planning POR but after Poly something was missing, SPACE:rotfl:) Now if I could just get a code or remember to ask for my AAA discount....Love the threads since I totally forgot about the AAAs.

We are staying here when we go in sept 2012. I called a few days ago and booked it for 13 day and 14 nights can't wait. We need more room since there is going to be 6 of us now that the new baby will be going
