I am a regional manager. Travel about 1400 plus miles a month work travel, as I cover buildings 1 hour to 4 hours from my home. Get paid back 55 cents per mile. No chance of company car. Even our COO drives her own car. Looking for great gas milage. I am thinking the reimbursement difference between my current 19 MPG to 40-50 MPG will almost pay for this 3rd car. Anyone has recommendation for a good high MPG car?

The Chevy Cruze Eco gets 40+ MPG, plus gives you more than enough "wiggle room"...

We are loving our new 2011 Hyundai Elantra. We are breaking 40 MPG on the highway with no problems. Lots of nice features too. If you go for the package that has the hands-free system built in, it works very well for when I have to take a call for work or other reasons. Also has 2 Power outlets in the console area.

ETA We have tons of room in it as well. I am 6 foot and a pretty hefty guy but I actually had to move the seat up a notch to get comfortable on longer drives, The telescoping steering wheel was a nice feature as well.

Ditto the Elantra. Bought one about a month ago and get 42 mpg through the Green Mountains of VT. And she hasn't even got 3K miles under her belt... so I hope she will get even better.

Funny how I know my car is a girl...:cutie:

The Elantra has received a lot of good press lately......including nice comments from Consumer Reports.

That Cruze model with the high mpg is not the base model, but a special one that costs more than the base model.

I would check out the current issue of consumer reports. There is an article in there about cars with 40+mpg cars.

I can't help as I have an accord and get about 30mpg

A friend does have a Prius and gets about 40-45 mpg and loves it. his is about 3 years old.

Update.. we went with the Prius in late June. Here is it near end of December. Close to 25,000 miles on it in less than 6 months! My wife drives a TON for work. Average thus far is 54.5 mpg, but that is sliding down slowly as weather gets more poor. Gas savings over first 25,000 is paying the car payment vs the 19.5 MPG Honda Pilot she was in. Very pleased.

+1 on the Elantra. My DB has one, and he loves how well it does on gas. I have the Veloster and although it is only slighty worse on MPH Mine is a Auto where his is manual, It is fun to drive and loaded to boot!

I have a Honda Fit that gets me 40-45 mpg on the highways, and about 35-38 mpg for city driving (manual). It isn't as good on gas as hybrids, but since the initial cost is so much less, it can be a good option.

Nobody has mentioned the VW jetta diesel. Do some searching of forums and you will find people getting fifty plus miles per gallon with one.

Although the price of fuel will have to be taken into account.

Glad you like your Prius. I LOVE mine!! Great gas mileage & so much fun to drive!

Glad you like the Prius! I have a 2010 Prius and it's totally my baby. I don't get as high mileage as you do (we live in a VERY hilly area so the hills can really kill your mileage), but we're averaging around 45 mpg right now with the cold weather. :thumbsup2
