Monday 23rd May 2011 Continued
Tonight we headed over to The Yacht Club for our reservation at the Yachtsman Steakhouse
We decided to drive over and arrived in plenty of time for a drink before dinner
Once we had parked the car we headed in to Crew's Cup Lounge to fully test the bar tender at Narcoossees claim that he made the best Agave Nectar Margarita on property
DH grabbed a Coke and we headed out onto the Veranda to enjoy our drinks and the wonderful view of Stormalong Bay
My Margarita was good but a little too heavy on the Agave Nectar which meant it was too sweet (Mr Narcoossees may have been right after all
)
I checked us in at Yachtsman and within a couple of minutes the sound of the buzzer managed to hide the sound of our rumbling tummies and we headed into the restaurant
Your first stop upon entering the restaurant is to peek through the window of a separate
‘butcher room’ where all of the steaks are proudly displayed and you get a little talk about the meat ageing process and the various cuts
I think I heard DH's stomach rumble at this point
We were led to an excellent table in the window which gave us a lovely view of Stormalong Bay and it felt like a very private area in which to sit
I loved the décor of Yachtsman, it was light, bright and airy and the high vaulted ceilings gave a real sense of space.
There was certainly more than enough room between tables and because our table was in the centre of a bay shaped window there were actually no tables to our left or right
Soon we were introduced to Oscar who was to become without doubt the best server we had all trip
Oscar looked after us superbly all evening and it was an absolute pleasure to chat to him throughout our meal
He really was a delight and enhanced our evening even more than the fabulous food I am about to describe
Oscar talked us through the menu and made some suggestions before bringing us some iced water and a basket of bread
Sorry I don't seem to be able to track down a photo
The basket contained some Sourdough and some Onion Bread
The Onion Bread was simply to die for, it was incredibly fresh and light with a delicate and delicious onion flavour
DH had become slightly obsessed with Sourdough on this trip so he was more than happy to eat all of that whilst I devoured the onion bread
I decided to have a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (sorry didn’t note the details) but it was another excellent glass of wine (thanks Oscar for the recommendation
)
I opted not to have an appetizer but DH couldn’t resist ordering this;
Charcuterie Board: Smoked Duck Sausage, Venison Terrine, Black & Blue Beef Tartare, Artisanal Cheese and Accoutrements
To this day DH can’t stop raving about this Appetizer, he enjoyed every single mouthful and would happily go back to Yachtsman night after night just for this dish
He tells me that all of the flavours worked together is perfect harmony and was by far the best Charcuterie Board he had ever tried
I was getting hungry for my entrée after hearing DH praising this dish so highly so I was very happy when presented with this:
Wild Atlantic Cod with Lobster Risotto, Top Neck Clams, Delta Asparagus and Sherry Lobster Pan Sauce
Beautiful presentation and a beautiful dish
The Cod was perfectly cooked and the Lobster Risotto was the perfect accompaniment, it didn’t over power the delicate taste of the Cod and worked really well with the fish
And here is DH’s entrée
Filet Mignon; 8-oz Filet, Mashed Potatoes and Red Wine Sauce
Could it possibly live up to the appetizer he had given such glowing reviews?
Hell yeah, he loved this just as much
It was a perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth tender filet with a huge helping of the most creamy and fluffy mash potatoes you could wish for, his verdict ………. Perfect
Onto desserts, and here is DH's choice
Signature Banana Napoleon - Custard, White Chocolate and Banana Mousse, and Crispy Phyllo
He nearly licked the plate clean
Another 10 out of 10 from DH
And for me;
The Yachtsman Sundae - Trio of Gelato with Amarena Cherries
If I was going to be ultra picky, and I hate to say anything bad about this meal as it was such a wonderful evening, there were quite a few ice crystals in the Gelato which meant it lost some of the creamy texture I would have expected
So Yachtsman Steakhouse provided us with a truly fantastic dinner and definitely the best of the trip so far
The service and food were both impeccable and our wonderful server Oscar was a total star
With huge smiles on our faces we headed back to Wilderness Lodge wondering if any of our upcoming ADRs could possibly top this one
