Hypothetical question regarding DVC and moving to Central FL

If you were a DVC owner that lived anywhere outside of Central FL, then decided to move to Central FL, would you sell your DVC? Obviously it would depend on how bad you needed the money (maybe you'd need it for moving expenses, etc), but how important do you think a DVC membership would be if you lived close enough to WDW to be able to visit very frequently.

If I did not really need the money I would def keep it. There are going to be events or nights you do not want to drive home and times were it will still be a weekend away. Plus It would be nice if you have friends or family coming into town who are staying onsite you may want to stay with them... Maybe it is just me but I think if I lived close I would def keep it.

I agree, I'd keep mine if at all possible if I move there. One reason is that I'd also like to be able to stay at DVC resorts outside of WDW.

We are actually contemplating moving to the central FL area in a year or so. As DVC members since 1995, we would probably keep our ownership. There are lots of times we would like to be on property for convenience - especially during Food & Wine or the various PodCast events.

We have discussed this and I would want to keep it (for the reasons mentioned here); however if I needed the money to help with moving expenses I would sell. But only as a last resort!

We've been DVC and live about 1 1/2 - 2 hours away from WDW the whole time. It's still wonderful to use the points to stay inside the Disney bubble, even though we live semi-local. Besides, even if we finally make our goal of moving to Orlando, we can use the points at Disneyland, Vero Beach, Hilton Head, later on at Aulani, and trade them for use other places.

If you don't need the money, it's still well worth owning DVC and being local...of course, it all depends on your personal situation, but the Disney obsessed won't be disappointed with it. :)

As DVC owners we plan to keep our points. Staying at the Disney resorts is magical. It would be a nice little get-a-way from our home. Plus, if family want to visit we'd be able to accommodate them. Points can be used for DCL cruises, and other resorts off property. We'll be keeping ours for those reasons.

I've lived here for 4 years and I have kept my DVC. We use it now for short trips, even overnight stays when we want to do something that ends late. I also plan on using my points for a trip to Disneyland after the CarsLand is done.

I may look into renting points at some future date because I don't use as many per year as I did when I lived up in NJ.

OP here. If I ever move down there, I'll do whatever I can to retain my DVC. While I love the idea of being at WDW and then sleeping in my own bed after a short drive, I also love the idea of staying in a resort I love, and being only a short drive from home.

I figure living there and owning DVC is the best of both worlds.
