Welcome to my 2nd Trip Report!! I hope you will enjoy reading along as I walk down memory lane!

First let me make some introductions first!

We are a typical family with all our little quirks. We hail from the "great" state of Mississippi. Our group included myself, my DH Keith, our DS Chris (17), our DD Madison (15) and my mom. Originally this was going to be a girl's trip. Chris then decided to join us followed by Keith...which is a story I will get to soon!! This trip had many ups and downs but we still had an awesome time and can't wait to return!

So now the intorductions...who are we??

I will begin with myself: Tisa. Although this is only my 5th trip to Disney, I am Disney addicted much to Keith's dismay! I love to talk Disney, read Disney, and basically submerge myself in all things Disney! Really, I like travel in general and wish I could have Samantha Brown's job! :worship: I could travel 24/7, 365 and be perfectly happy!! I am also a planner and could be considered a Disney dork. I do the whole spreadsheet/binder thing. I get way too detailed in my planning but it is how I relax! Along with loving to travel I love food (so thankfully we had FREE DINING!!) and I also love photography, although I am a total amature and only dream of owning a fancy camera!! On more than one occasion, someone in my family would say "Not another picture!" or "You are seriously taking pictures of food?!?!"

So in saying that, one word of warning: I took tons of pictures so this will be heavy on the photos! Yes, I love taking pictures and this drives my family crazy !! I kept having to run to catch up with them since they quit stopping for me!

Next up is my hubby, Keith. I honestly had no idea why he volunteered to go on this trip. (I find out during the trip, so you have to read along to discover this bit of info!;)) This was Keith's 2nd trip to Disney. His first trip was last June (2010). He went only due to the fact that we could go super cheap with military tickets and room discounts. He is/was a Disney "hater" even though he had never been before! :confused3 He went reluctantly last year, decided mid-trip we would remain the entire week at Disney (we were planning to end the week in St Augustine), and then volunteered to go with us this year! :cool1:

Here is a picture of us from our trip last year:

IMG_5014.jpg

Next we have Chris, our 17 year old son. This is Chris' 3rd trip. His first was during Spring Break 2009 followed by last year's trip. Chris is pretty laid back and loves riding all of the "thrill" rides. This becomes quit evident during the first two days!

And then there is Madison. She is 15 and this made her 4th trip to Disney World. Her first trip was when she was 4, then in 2009, and 2010. Madison loves the princesses and still wants to do some character meets, although that interest is beginning to wain. Madison also plays the flute in the high school band. They have a trip planned for Spring 2012 to WDW! I see chaperoning in my future!! Madison also likes all of the rides!

The kiddos on last year's trip:

And finally, my mom. My mom lives an hour south of us. This trip originally was planned to give her a much needed vacation. This is her first vacation in 6 years! :scared1: I cannot fathom!! :scared1: My mom actually surprised me on many occassions...but I cannot give too much away! You will not want to continue reading my TR! ;)

My dad was coming along but work dictated he could not join us! :sad2: I am a daddy's girl and had looked forward to him going. Hopefully he will soon! My mom and dad:

So that is who we are. Now where did we stay?

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. The newly renovated rooms are nice! This was a stipulation of Keith's that we had to return to Port Orleans. Last year we stayed at Riverside, but they were all booked so we moved over to POFQ this time...more on those thoughts later!!

We were there May 26-June 2 which included Memorial Day. Plus we had Free Dining as I mentioned previously. This meant we ate and ate and ate! And, finally, as my title says....some plans are made to be broken. And coming from a self-proclaimed OCD Disney World Planner....that is saying a lot!!!

Next up...our trip down to Orlando and our first night on the town!

I am here! As I read your installment, I found myself smiling because you and I are so much alike......Disney obsessed, planning obsessed, traveling obsessed, picture taking obsessed....well, you get the drift. It was such a pleasure to meet you and your wonderful family. I wish we would have had longer to chat.

Looking forward to reading more!

I'm here! Anxiously awaiting more! There are a lot of cliffhangers in your intro...

Sounds like this will be a TR full of surprises! Can't wait to get this party started  (too bad your Dad couldn't join you - maybe next time )

I'm here too! I played the flute in high school, and we went on trips but never to disney :( I'm an obsessed planner too, it's definitely relaxing! Looking forward to reading more.

Awesome! I find myself thinking the same thing about how much alike we are as I read along on your TRs! Obsessed is definitely what I would call myself!

It was so great running into you guys!

Hooray!! :woohoo: I am tryign to keep the suspense....;)

Welcome!! So glad you are joining me! :yay: The surprises surprised me the whole trip!! I hope he can join us next time. He is such a character that he has fun whereever he goes!

I'm here too! I played the flute in high school, and we went on trips but never to disney :( I'm an obsessed planner too, it's definitely relaxing! Looking forward to reading more.

Welcome!!! :yay: I played the clarinet and our band took trips...until I got in the high school and the trips stopped! :sad2: I love the flute and was glad when she chose it for her instrument!! People think I am crazy that planning relaxes me, but it really does! Glad someone else knows what I am talking about!! :)

As soon as we left the WDW property last year (as in we had not even gotten out of Orlando yet!!) I had my notebook out making notes for my next trip. Now, I had absolutely no clue when that would be back but I knew I would be back! I always begin with restaurants because I like food. The parks revolve around the ADRs basically. So in my handy dandy notebook I had listed several places I wanted to eat:
Les Chefs de France
Akershus
Kona Cafe
'Ohana (for supper; we love breakfast there!)
Crystal Palace...and so on

Then I began listing things we missed in the parks. In June 2010 we only had 4 day tickets so MK had a lot skipped and Epcot...well, Epcot. Epcot is my favorite park. I have loved Epcot since I was a kid. I especially love World Showcase! I planned Epcot for the final day. Keith woke up with a hurt foot and could barely walk. We missed most everything in that park. To make matters worse he got motion sick on Soarin' (one of our first rides) and was too sick to really eat at Le Cellier (one of the kids favorites places). And then Test Track was down when we went to use our FPs. Finally a squirrel drank my margarita Keith was "watching" while I stood in the Test Track line (that we did not get to ride!). Needless to say...we missed a lot of Epcot and this was a huge disappointment!! The day wasn't terrible but still.....

So obviously this meant I had a long list of things at MK and Epcot that I wanted to do! Most specifically (and not exhaustive):
Country Bear Jamboree
Carousel of Progress
Jungle Cruise
Test Track
The Living Seas pavilion
And actually explore World Showcase!

So my list was made but no trip was planned. Fast forward to August and free dining was announced. Now my mom and I had planned to take a trip with Madison and we felt this was a great opportunity! Let the planning begin! And I did plan and plan and plan and I wrote a PTR (A Girl's Trip Becomes So Much More!). Needless to say, the month of May hit and I looked forward to my trip with great anticipation!!

So! All of that back story to say that some plans are made to be changed. And as I learned over the course of 10 days some changes are good, some are sad and some are totally unexpected! I hope that as I write my posts, I can include what the actual plan was. That way you can see what changed and what remained the same! If you are new to my TRs and would like a preview, I do have a Table of Contents in my PTR and if you look at the "One week from today...." posts I have a synopsis of "The Plan"!

Now to an Actual Update related to our trip!! ;)

The plan was that we would drive to my parents' house on Wednesday night (5.25.11) so we could get all loaded up and ready to go. We wanted to leave by 4am. **Also, for newbies, Keith was unable to drive down with us due to work so he did not meet up with us until Saturday. Basically he missed 1 1/2 park days.**

We get to my parents' house, grab supper at McDonalds, load the van, and sit down to watch American Idol. My mom loves American Idol. I usually watch it but this was my first show of this season. This was also the grand finale night where you learn who "Your Next American Idol" (insert Ryan Seacrest's voice here) is....in case you don't know it was Scott McCreary (at least I think that was his last name! :rolleyes1)

So we finally get to bed when at 2am we are all awoken by a massive thunderstorm! Our area was hit by tornados all during April and May and I no longer sleep well when there is bad weather. Thankfully we have been lucky but just thinking about Tuscaloosa and Joplin makes my heart drop! Plus I watched on a live news report from work as a tornado lifted just before it hit my kids high school...that they were in!! :scared1: Needless to say I only got about 2 hours sleep.

We decide we are up, we might as well get ready to leave but it is raining very badly. So we pull out at:

IMG_1187.jpg

Here we are raring to go to Walt Disney World!!!

IMG_1185.jpg

We stop for gas and then I blow a fuse to the car charger plug-ins. :headache: No big deal, right!? Well, it is when you are totally dependent on a GPS to get you to a hotel for the night! No maps, no GPS....I begin to panic. We know how to get to Orlando so we decide to not use the GPS and use the battery power to find the hotel.

The storm clouds clearing at the Mississippi/Louisiana state line (well, one of the two we crossed).

IMG_1188.jpg

IMG_1189.jpg

We stop for breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Gulfport and then we hit the road!

IMG_1191.jpg

We make one more detour in Pensacola where we found an extremely helpful salesman at an auto repair store. He gets our fuses going and we are really set!! We are bound and determined to make it to our hotel by 5pm!

We cross over Pensacola Bay:

PensecolaBay.jpg

We arrive in Orlando and after many wrong turns (yes, even with the GPS so I can't imagine not having the thing telling me where to go!) we finally make it to the hotel for the night. :cheer2:

Oh and I have a picture of my toes. Yes...I said my toes because I had Mickey Mouse toes!! The picture isn't great but maybe you will get the idea!! :goodvibes

IMG_1164.jpg

I am going to leave it here for now....I think I have rambled enough :rolleyes1 for now. Stay tuned to see if our evening plans work out the way they were...well, planned!!

Again, you and I are so much alike. I make those same sort of lists on what we missed on the trip so that I can make sure we do them again next trip.

What I wouldn't give to see the squirrel who drank your margarita. I can just see him stumbling around Epcot. Wait, is that mean of me to say?

Your mother and I talked about American Idol. We missed the last show and your mother told me that Scotty won. She was so excited.

Oh my word! I can't believe that you went to Walt Disney World without a good old fashioned map. I guess I'm old school 'cause I take the same old ones every year. Thank goodness you were able to get the fuse fixed so you could use the GPS again. I bet that was a load off your mind.

Your toes are so cute! I have never thought about getting mine done like that.

Hi Tisa! Great start to your TR. I will have to read your previous report as well, I like your writing style! Looking forward to hearing about the renovated rooms at FQ, we stayed there last April and really enjoyed it but thought the rooms needed updating! Glad you all were safe from the storms! Can't wait for your next post!

*Beth

Wow! What an early start - and everyone looks so chipper!

I hear ya' about those storms. I used to love thunderstorms, but after this spring and WAY to many trips to the hall closet (our tornado safe spot) now they just make me nervous.

I love the Mickey toes!

On the way home, I started my next list...with tips from Keith! :thumbsup2

The squirrel was darting around sparodically...we weren't sure if it was the margarita or not!

I wanted the girl to win...not because I had a prefernce but because a co-worker is from a town next to her hometown. That was a great reason, huh!? :)

I usually always have everything from Mapquest but this time, I figured we had two GPS systems so we should be good. Never considered that the power source could be an issue!! Next time I will be more cautious! We did have an atlas map though.

Loved your last TR! Can't wait to hear about this visit, too!

Hey!! Welcome back!! :yay: I hope this one is as enjoyable!! :goodvibes

Welcome and thank you so much!! We really liked the renovated rooms. I can compare them to POR last year and really saw some improvements...although I know the two are seperate.

We were chipper because of where we were going!! :rotfl: I never can get going like that for work!!

I always loved the noises of thunder and an approaching storm. Even hurricanes were just something to deal with. We lived through Katrina and had a lot of friends/relatives greatly affected. That changed my views of the hurricanes. This past spring has brought a new viewpoint of tornados. Thankfully we were all safe and sound though!! That is our "safe spot" too!!

Thanks on the Mickey toes!! I actually got the idea off of a really old thread that was brought back up about one month before the trip. Madison and I both did it but Madison didn't get her toes in on the photo!!

Welcome!!!

I hope to have an update soon--tonight or tomorrow so stay tuned!!!

When I last left off we had finally made it to Orlando after a few unplanned pit stops. My goal was to make it to Orlando by 5pm. It is about an 11 hour drive from our hometown to Orlando and figuring in stops, I felt 5pm (with us leaving at 4am) was easily doable.

So did we make it by 5pm? Well, thankfully we missed any traffic tie-ups and the toll booths were a breeze. If, and notice I said if, I had "listened" to the GPS better, we would have made it to the hotel by 4:40pm!! Pretty good time! However, since I was using my mom's GPS and it counted down the turns differently, I missed our exit...:sad2: After hearing "recalculating" a million and one times, we finally made it to the hotel...at.....drum roll....exactly 5pm!!!! :yay:

Our first night was not at a Disney resort. I figured why spend the money when I could get a free room through points! So we booked our first night at Quality Inn on International Drive (behind the semi-famous McDonald's). We had thought a swim sounded good but when we arrived the pool was jam packed...so dinner sounded better!!

First a look at the rooms...not Disney but they were nice enough! The beds were doubles though and not as comfy. Even if we had been paying for the night the room was only $59.00 so not too bad if you are trying to save some money! I definitley would recommend this place. Oh yeah! The pictures:

We drop our stuff and relax a bit. I showered and we found Stacy on the tv...even off-site!! :cool1: Okay, now I really feel like I have made it to Disney World!!! When I was planning our Spring Break 2009 trip and I discovered the DisBoards I kept hearing about this Stacy person...so when we got to the resort I searched out the program (like that was difficult to find!!). Now we have to watch her give the Must Dos to make our trip official!

Well, I guess our trip was now official!!!:rotfl:

So after cleaning up and resting, we made a beeline for....

IMG_1196.jpg

Of course even this little trip was met with missed turns so I was really getting ready to park my car and use Disney's transportation!

We decide our first order of business will be food!!! We had looked at the menus I printed off (I know...total planning dork!!) on the way down and our decision was already made as to where we would eat.....

First I begin what my family dreads...picture taking!!! I had to warn my mom I take pictures of everything!! :rolleyes1 She soon found out this included food!

IMG_1197.jpg

And then it is straight for:

IMG_1198.jpg

We really love this place!! It is so yummy and pretty affordable by vacation/Disney standards!

We line up and try to decide what to get....

IMG_1199.jpg

The side choices...what to choose...what to choose???

IMG_1201.jpg

We place our order and I head outside to try and snag a table. This was about 6:30pm and the crowds were building quickly!! I get a pretty good table with these views:

IMG_1202.jpg

IMG_1203.jpg

Madison joins me:

IMG_1206.jpg

And then the food comes!!!!

I chose The Original 1762 and a side of the freshly made Tomato Soup and croutons:

IMG_1204.jpg

Last year I got the Caribbean Jerk Chicken and really enjoyed it but I wanted to get something different this time. I took a bite of the sandwich and ahhhhh...........delish!!!! Then I tried the tomato soup...HOT!!! Burned tongue!!!! I grabbed my drink and hoped I could taste the rest of my meal! :upsidedow Thankfully the damage was not too severe!

Okay, the verdict on the soup? Wonderful!! I actually find myself craving this now as I look at the picture! I could make a meal off of this, and may next time! I had way more food than I could eat!

Madison and Chris both chose The Earl's Club. They both really liked it. Chris' sans the tomatoes....caught just before he began chowing down!

IMG_1205.jpg

My mom got the Italian and loved it. Unfortunately, she had already started digging in and I did not get a picture of her sandwich!
