I'd Walk a Mile for a Cupcake- an SSR Quickie! 4/4-4/7/11 FINISHED!! 6/29

I am going to have to try those cupcakes sometime. We have had really good ones from the Contempo Cafe at CR.

It was some kind of a sound oddity thing- there were two of them across from each other- I think you sat in them and were supposed to hear the one across from you like it was right there with you. :confused3 I don't think we did it correctly-:upsidedow

I've never seen these either. Are they in the fairy garden? They look so weird!

So my transport mojo was in FULL FORCE as I walked through the International Gateway....the boat had JUST pulled up, and I walked right on and sat in the back, outside. I proceeded to show my ultimate geekiness on the ride- I was taking camera photos, taking iphone pix and sending them to friends, texting DISmoms and reading a TR on the DIS all at the same time. People on that boat who were sitting next to me kept their distance, and I'm sure they were thinking WHAT. A. FREAK. Mostly because while I was juggling all this, I was laughing OUT LOUD at myself. :rotfl: First stop was BW, and I was so excited because I knew I would be checking in here in just 5 weeks-

I think I may have even said "WOOHOO!!! The BOARDWALK!!" out loud. To myself. And my imaginary friends. Who were sitting next to me with LOADS of space between us and the REAL passengers. :rotfl2: Next was-

IMG_1389.jpg

Pretty sure I had something to say about the Beach Club, too....but at this point I was getting alot of polite smiles and sympathetic stares from people keeping their children away from the crazy lady in the back of the boat.

Oh...and it was HOT...REALLY, REALLY HOT. The weather had COMPLETELY changed from the day before- it was close to 98, sticky, humid and still.

Maybe I had heat stroke. Yea- that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it. Heat stroke.

Of course, our next stop was the Swalphin-

IMG_1391.jpg

Where adults held their children a little tighter as I took more crazy pictures and continued to amuse me, myself and I. Finally, much to their relief and mine, the slooooooooow boat to DHS arrived, and we were off. I bolted as fast as I could....

IMG_1393.jpg

Frantic that the last desired cupcakes would be sold to someone RIGHT before me. :scared1: Can you imagine the scene that would have been! Heat stroke and all! Fortunately, instead of an empty case in Starring Rolls, this is what I saw-

IMG_1402.jpg

I asked if they had anything to transport the cupcakes and, and they said NO they did NOT. I asked them if they had a bag, and they said NO they did NOT.

Friendly bunch in there.

They handed me 3 pieces of waxed paper, and I took my tray of cupcakes outside, of course, to proceed with the food pornography.

Butterfinger cupcake-
IMG_1404.jpg

Peanut Butter cupcake- that one's mine, all mine...I'm RICH! I'm a wealthy miser!!
IMG_1405.jpg

Apparently, heat stroke effects are everlasting.

Marble cupcake- for Tyler-
IMG_1406.jpg

Which attracted the attention of two other heat stroke victims who were having lunch outside. I mean, it's not everyday someone BY HERSELF comes flyin out of Starring Rolls with 3 HUGE cupcakes on a tray, throws them on a table- and doesn't take a bite, just starts taking PHOTOS!!

I mean, REALLY!

So while they were laughing at me, one of them was brave enough to ask what the heck I was doin- so, as fast as I could, I explained that I was an escaped mental patient from the DISboards taking photos of cupcakes that I would be bringing home to NJ that night for my kids who were eating too much caramel at the moment in Karamel Kuche in Germany. A mom's gotta limit sugar intake SOMEHOW.

Makes total sense, doesn't it???

Well, they weren't going to let me on the plane with a tray of cupcakes, so I knew I had to get a bag from SOMEWHERE. So I stopped in the store on the opposite corner.

IMG_1407.jpg

And waited for what seemed like hours for the one CM to finish explaining to the only other customers in the store everything that they did not HAVE in the store, multiple times. When her detailed explanation of why they don't sell turkey legs in that particular venue had finally concluded, I was able to ask, "Would you PLEASE give me a bag for these cupcakes that I am bringing home to eat in NJ?"

And she said, "Of course! They just gave me bags for just that purpose."

....

....

Ok- heat stroke or not, I am pretty sure that if Disney is putting bags in stores to bring home cupcakes to NJ, maybe they should start, umm...I dunno.....IN THE CUPCAKE STORE!!!!!!

I thanked her and her elite force of shopping bag procurers, and flew out the door. But, of course, took a pic-

IMG_1408.jpg

then ran for the DHS exit, where I saw....

all my travel mojo had just. run. out.

Cont'd soon-

I think I may have even said "WOOHOO!!! The BOARDWALK!!" out loud. To myself. And my imaginary friends. Who were sitting next to me with LOADS of space between us and the REAL passengers. :rotfl2:

:laughing::rotfl::rotfl2:

I'm totally getting myself one of those peanut butter chocolate cupcake thingies in July. Weight Watchers, Schmeight Watchers!

can't believe they didn't have bags at Starring Rolls! I was just there and got a bag. So I guess they fixed the problem:confused3

:rotfl2: I can't even see the pictures and I'm laughing. Still can't believe you went all the way over there for cupcakes. But, I will admit that Starring Rolls has some amazing looking stuff. YUM!

You walked to HS for a cupcake? No, you didn't?????

Not exactly walked TO.....:rolleyes1

Isn't it great when you can leave your kids alone in a park. Love that!

Yes- it was even better when I got back and they were safe & sound, right where they were supposed to be. They do feel AWFULLY good about themselves whenever I (we) have let them be on their own like that- and we are always VERY clear about what can and can't be done.:thumbsup2

Yes, re: the December trip - Denny and Nick might have to fly down a day later. This whole December trip is not quite working out as I planned. The flight prices are ridiculous and they times are wonky. They don't work with an after school departure. I have SWA credit I need to use up, but the US Air prices are better.

I think I am going to call MS tomorrow and see if I can switch the dates a bit. I know I'll end up waitlisting. Right now I am at Jambo House for the first night (that was to be my alone night) and VWL for the next 4. Denny really wants to stay VWL, so we'll see what happens.

Enough of my woes!

Looking forward to seeing this cupcake! The pastries in Norway looked sooooooo good.

I really, REALLY hope you get to keep your VWL ressie. I always, ALWAYS want to stay at the DVC I just purchased some points at- it's inexplainably thrilling when they say, "Welcome Home" and you are at YOUR home. KWIM? Especially the first time.....

Looks like you are having a great last day. That TT single rider line is a great way to get on that ride quick. I had a question about that School Bread. Is the custard like a boston creme, and is the "bread" part more towards a donut/cake or more like bread?

I had been wondering where your TR title would come in.

The single rider line is THE best, as long as you don't have little ones. We love it!!

The schoolbread is kind of like an unsweetened donut with a custard filling. Does that help? The one I had on this last trip was not nearly as good as this first one was- very dried out, I wondered if it was stale from the day before. Be sure to ask about how fresh it is-:thumbsup2

And yea, the next installment will be all about the title....

I am going to have to try those cupcakes sometime. We have had really good ones from the Contempo Cafe at CR.

Oh, they really are sooooooooo good. But again- the ones I brought home this last trip were not as good as the ones from this trip. The marble one lacked filling. :confused3 The Disney Dining Nazi must have put the kibash on filled anything the week of May 13th! :rotfl:

I've never seen these either. Are they in the fairy garden? They look so weird!

Yea- they were in the fairy garden, at the end near TT.

Great updates Ellen! Looks like you and the boys had lots of fun.

Thanks Chris! We had a wonderful trip, even now I am still so happy we were able to do it.

Sweetheart, that PB Cupcake is worth every POINT on Weight Watchers!! YUMMMMMMM!!!!!

can't believe they didn't have bags at Starring Rolls! I was just there and got a bag. So I guess they fixed the problem:confused3

Yes, they were better prepared for take-home cupcakes on my next visit in May. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I can't even see the pictures and I'm laughing. Still can't believe you went all the way over there for cupcakes. But, I will admit that Starring Rolls has some amazing looking stuff. YUM!

I'm glad you're laughing. I've read it over 4 times, and I'm still laughing at it. With my friends you-know-who. :rolleyes1

Really, when i was sitting on the boat laughing with my imaginary friends, I think I was even saying (out loud) I've got a BIG problem- which, of course, made me laugh even harder. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hi Ellen!

Finally all caught up again! I just love your style of enjoying the parks, especially seeing proof of your bravery on Splash! :rotfl2:
Really good photo of you!

You are a wonderful mom for heading over to DHS for the cupcakes. And I just know about the container/bag dilemma at SRC! We now travel with a plastic container to get things back to the resort! :lmao:

No more luck with transportation? Can't wait for the next installment ....... popcorn::

starring rolls was to die for...if I had not been munching on that carmel corn I may have gotten one myself. I think we redeemed the transport mojo....

Hi Ellen!

Just catching up on your reports and just wanted to say that this report has made me feel so good for my future. I sure hope my boys, who are now 7 and 5 are as close as your two seem to be and will not mind coming with me to Disney when they are older. I too was talked into Splash Mtn during out last trip - the things you'll do for your kids! But I don't think I'd go to another park in the HEAT to get them cupcakes - even if they were from Starring Rolls!

Going to look for the Dismoms update next! As always, I'm enjoying your trip reports. What will I do now with a break between your trips?? Better stretch out that Dismoms report!! :thumbsup2

Oh, those cupcakes look like so much deliciousness Are they as good as they look? Strange that the store across the street has bags to makeup for SRC not having them :confused3 Oh no! Now you are going to have to swim back holding the cupcakes up over your head! :scared1:

Exactly why I didn't want to change the reservation. It seemed somehow "wrong" to use VWL points to stay at OKW. But - despite that - I did end up moving the dates of the reservations slightly and taking all 5 nights at OKW. It was really a good bargain, point wise. Plus, I have never stayed there before, so it will be fun to check out the refurbed rooms. This is sort of a weird trip anyway. It's one of those trips that was never set in stone as far as dates, so it helps to be flexible. After I stay at OKW then the only DVC resort I still need to try is BWV. (well, except for the one in Disneyland and Aulani). I'll be checking out HH in October. Slowly, I am made the DVC rounds.

:rotfl2: Now the TR title makes sense! Those must be some good cupcakes! No...I have never tried one. Will have to remember that in Oct!

I am cracking up reading your description of the boat ride and cupcake photography. You must have been a sight only a DISer could love. :goodvibes. I amuse myself all the time on my trips ( and sometimes at home :rolleyes1) so i sympathize. :upsidedow

I am right with ya! Peanut butter is my kryptonite! That and the butterfinger cupcake looks to die for!

We once had a layover in Memphis and the Neeley's bbq was right there by the entrance to my plane so I grabbed a pulled pork sandwich to take home and stunk up the cabin:rotfl:

OMG, funny post Ellen. I could see you sitting in the back of one of the boats doing all that multitasking with the phones and cameras. You are a truly devoted DISer to her fans! :thumbsup2 And I thank you. :worship:

 I can totally see myself suffering from "heat stroke" too :rotfl2:
Although I would NOT be walking from HS to Epcot...although something tells me that you didn't have too many options.
I love cupcakes but the one that does it for me in SR is the banana split :upsidedow MEK remember that this is the same one you had for dessert at BD :thumbsup2 I usually have mine for breakfast though....you know banana :confused3
