Disneypoor's Alaskan Cruise June 7th, 2011

The good news is: I got the suitcases out! I also got very organized today. I printed out copies of our airline info and cruise info to put in all of our suitcases just in case something would happen to our luggage en route to Vancouver.:confused3 I also decided to make copies of our passports as well as all of our travel information to leave in a pile at home just in case our family would need it.

I had read on another post that someone had canceled an excursion but then never double checked Disney's site to make sure it had in fact been canceled. When they got on the cruise ship, it hadn't been canceled and they had to pay for it. As you know, I canceled one of our excursions so we could do the float plane tour in Ketchikan with Island Wings Tours. The excursion we had originally booked with Disney was quite expensive, so I printed out a copy of the excursions that show when I log in to my account on DCL's site just to prove that I do not have that excursion booked anymore. Probably didn't need to do that, but I sure don't want to fork out an extra $850 for an excursion I'm not going on. Plus, I didn't want to get thrown overboard or put in jail for a confrontation at guest services.:rotfl:

I also found my packing list that I typically use for our Disney cruises and tweaked it a bit for Alaska. I typed up a list of things each of my kids will need so they can pack themselves, and I did the same for my husband and I. I would post my packing list, but I'm not real sure how to do that on these boards. ?? I'm starting to get everything organized and at least in "piles".;)

Can't forget the binoculars and the Mickey Mouse umbrella!

Not much else going on around our house tonight. My DH is frantically working in the shop trying to repair some things that need to be finished before we leave. We farm, and our cash crop is soybeans, and we've had rain at the wrong times, so he is going to be lucky if he gets all of the crops in before we leave. Today was a hot, windy day, so that is good. We're hoping he can get in the field tomorrow or for sure by Sunday. We won't see much of him until we head to the airport Monday morning because this is a busy, stressful time for him.:sad2: Hopefully he will be able to go on this trip without worrying about things back at home though. Send pixie dust our way, please.:wizard:

As for me, I will spend most of the day tomorrow and Sunday at my son's basketball tournament. My son plays year round basketball, and my daughter plays year round volleyball, so they keep me BUSY! However, due to my daughter's ACL surgery, she cannot play competitively until August.

Here are pictures of my kids doing what they love (besides cruising, of course):):

Okay, the title of this section of my trip report was good news, bad news for a reason. Here is the bad news:
DSC04570.jpg

The suitcases are out, but they are still empty!:scared1: Looks like I'll be up late Sunday night!

Seriously, there could be much worse bad news, so I'm not stressing too much about it. It will happen. I work better under pressure anyway.;)

Until next time...........:wave2:

We wiil board when you get done! We are also staying at Fairmont pacific rim. Have a safe trip! Leave a few Mickey ice cream bars for us!

We are finally packed and ready for this vacation to get started!:thumbsup2 We have to be up and ready to walk out our door just shortly after 4 a.m., so I doubt I'll get much sleep tonight, but that's okay! Tomorrow at this time we should be in Vancouver, so all is well!:goodvibes

We are flying Delta, and they charge $25 per bag and $35 for any additional bags. Well, I tried as hard as I could to fit the clothing for our family of four into four suitcases, but it just wasn't working. So, unfortunately, we are taking five suitcases and just paying the price. Between the cost of luggage both ways and the cost to leave our vehicle parked at the airport for nine days, we could almost pay a deposit for another cruise!;) A lot of people complain about Southwest, but I think I will love them even more after this trip!

I've decided against taking my computer with me on this cruise, so it's highly doubtful that I will post from the ship. I did check out the cost to use the internet onboard just in case though.:)

Can't wait to get this Alaskan adventure started!

You will be one of those cruisers that I look at with envy as I'm exiting the ship.:lmao: I always hate getting off of the ship, and that "See ya real soon" sign as you walk out the door gets me every time.:guilty: I always notice the cruisers that are just arriving at the terminal as we're leaving and think about what lies ahead for them. WONDERful memories! Have a great trip! I'll have to tell my son that you'd like some Mickey bars to be left over! He's the one that eats gallons of ice cream and more Mickey bars than he'll ever confess to when we cruise!:rotfl: I have to bring plenty of dollar bills because he thinks room service is just something that should happen on every vacation!;)

It is not a lot, but you can save $2/bag if you check in and pay online before you get to the airport. You don't have to print the boarding passes, so you could even try to do it from a mobile device.

I had to pay $230 Euros for excess baggage from Paris to Barcelona----I hate luggage fees:sad2:

Safe travels tomorrow and have a wonderful cruise:banana::banana::banana:

Well, I'm so glad I at least have a couple of readers. And, now that I know there are at least three DISers that do the same obsessive compulsive things I do, I can consider myself normal.;)
Susan

Okay sorry - normal NO.

DIS normal - YES!!!!

Signing on to hear more. i loved our Alaska cruise except for 1 thing---it wasnt DCL!!! Can't wait to hear morepopcorn::popcorn::

Hope you are having fun! Count me in as a fellow OCD trip planner so I am joining as one of your avid readers. We sail on June 28th and have the same excursions booked in Skagway and Ketchikan so I can't wait for your reviews on those.

Just found your trip report - I also plan vacations a year in advance and have to have the house clean before we leave! Can't wait to hear about your trip. We are sailing Aug. 9 and also staying at the Pacific Rim precruise.

Excited to read all your report! We leave in less than a month for the Alaska cruise!

We cruise Alaska end of July, so looking forward to your report. Hope you are having a wonderful time!

Mrs. Mork and I are sailing together again (with our spouses!) on this Alaska cruise. I too am real anxious to read your report.

Show us how OCD you really are and do it soon! :thumbsup2

Thanks. :grouphug:

We made it back home safe and sound! Our trip was fabulous! I don't have time to write my whole trip report, but I can give a few highlights for now. First of all, for anyone that is staying at the Pacific Rim, you are in for a real treat!:thumbsup2 That place is fabulous and very close to the terminal. We loved it there and would most definitely stay there again!

Also, if you are flying in a day early, I can give you the number of a limo driver that will give tours of Vancouver for $75 per hour, and he was one of the highlights of our trip! He was a local, and can give the history of everything and suggest things for you to see while he is taking you around Vancouver. We had him for two hours and were able to go to Grouse Mountain and do the tram, visit Prospect Point, visit the fish hatchery, see Stanley Park, as well as many other things around Vancouver. The homes there are simply amazing and neat to see as well. I'll include more when I actually write my report, but we had five people, a stretch limo to ourselves, and spent $150 to see the city. Well worth it!:cool1:

Another highlight of our trip was the floatplane tour we took with Island Wings in Ketchikan. We booked this on our own, and I cannot say enough good things about this company! Michelle, the pilot, is absolutely wonderful! I HIGHLY recommend this tour! It's not one you can book thru Disney, but you can feel completely safe booking on your own. It's super close to the ship, and we did the two hour tour and began at 5:00. The ship left port at 8:00, and we had plenty of time to make it back without stressing. In fact, we even caught the 7:15 show that was in the Walt Disney Theater that night. This excursion was well worth the money!:goodvibes

I have lots to tell all of you, but I'm going to break my report into days, so I don't want to ruin it all and keep you from continuing to read, but I just can't keep this highlight in: WE WON BINGO TWICE!!!!!! And, we never win anything! In fact, we have cruised DCL seven times and only played once before, so we were shocked when we won. Needless to say, we'll be playing bingo on future cruises.:rotfl:

Lots of information to share with everyone, but feel free to ask if you have specific questions. I kept a journal so I wouldn't forget anything (it's the OCD coming out again!). I also have all of the navigators and the list of movies that were playing while we cruised. I'd be happy to answer questions and will hopefully get started on my report soon. Til then, if you're cruising to Alaska, be prepared to be taken aback by the beauty. We've traveled a lot, and I considered the beauty of Alaska to be at the top of my list now and even topping Hawaii. It's just gorgeous there and is a totally different kind of cruise.

Disneypoor: I would love the limo guy's number. We are going there sat for a few days before cruising on the 21st. Thanks for writing a trip report!!

I am leaving for WDW Saturday for a week, maybe you will have settled back in and I'll have something to read when I get back. Looking forward to it:goodvibes

Glad you had a great time....just a few questions.....

Movies: I know we will have premiere of cars 2 but what else were they showing?

Dinner: Did they chnage semi formal night or is it still at same time?

Any changes from the last cruises that was significant?
