9 days, 20 ADRs, 14 b-day treats, & 2 happy bellies! Completed!

I am loving your reviews! Hoping Francois is my waiter too! :lovestruc My daughter is only 5, but your review has me sooo very excited for the first time just the two of us can do the World together!!! Keep the great reviews and pics coming!

Great reviews! Its hilarious that Francoise gave you his phone number :rotfl2: I've had it happen to me before but never by a handsome french man ;) Its nice that you received such great service at Chefs de France. I've heard some negative things about service there but was hoping it wasnt true in all cases as we have a ADR there in a couple weeks.

LOL Love that the waiter gave you his #! Too funny! I love your reviews-- can't wait for more!

Hey there! Earl of Sandwich coming up shortly.

I am loving your reviews! Hoping Francois is my waiter too! :lovestruc My daughter is only 5, but your review has me sooo very excited for the first time just the two of us can do the World together!!! Keep the great reviews and pics coming!

Thanks for reading!

A mother/daughter WDW trip is a great experience! We plan to do it again - which will be our 3rd trip together. I think my husband and 3 grown kids are now officially feeling excluded!

This was our 2nd time to eat at Chef's and I have to say that both times the service was great! I love the menu as well so we'll keep going back to this one. Enjoy your upcoming dining experience!

LOL Love that the waiter gave you his #! Too funny! I love your reviews-- can't wait for more!

Thanks! Funny, awkward, amusing, and controversial! That's how I describe that phone # issue. But did I feel a little flattered that he would even do that to someone of my age?? Heck yeah! :rotfl2:

Loving your reviews. I winced at the mention of the epilady. :scared:

Thanks! I had to think back to why I would mention an epilady in my dining review but now I remember.... Those things were horrible!

You will see several dining establishments repeated during the course of our WDW trips. Earl of Sandwich is one of those must visit places for us! My DD is not a sandwich person - so this must be a great place for her to ask to go there when we visit WDW. I understand that there are locations throughout the US - lucky you if you have one near where you live! :)

So..... we had called it a day at Epcot and returned to BLT to chill for a few hours before catching a bus to DTD. We didn't arrive at EofS until nearly 9:30pm. It was late enough that there was plenty of seating inside and out. Once again, we were not hungry enough to have an entire sandwich so we split a Caprese sandwich and we both grabbed a cupcake coronet. The nice cashier gal saw my birthday button and said that in honor of my special day that she was giving me a brownie. Super sweet!

A sandwich, a fountain drink and two cupcakes totaled $12.64 with a AAA 15% discount. Note: I had read on the DisBoards that some people had received discounts with their AAA cards – sure enough – it is true!

When the pager went off to retrieve our sandwich my mouth started to water! Since this is the only sandwich that I have eaten here, I have no idea if EofS hits a homerun with all of their sandwich selections. The bread that they use for these sandwiches – what is it? It is not as heavy as a traditional French roll and it isn’t just a couple slices of plain white bread. It is lightly toasted and has a nice texture. The mozzarella, tomato, and basil were all fresh and yummy! But the best part of the sandwich was the light balsamic vinaigrette drizzle. It really made the flavors come alive and was an excellent finish to the sandwich.

The cupcake coronet was a yellow cake, white frosting and lots of tiny sprinkles. I only ate ½ of the cupcake and ½ of the sandwich but it was enough to satisfy.

And here's my b-day brownie:
EarlofSandwichbrownie.jpg

Note: I didn't eat the brownie and it wasn't until we were home that I remembered that I had it... so I can't tell you if it was any good.

With more to do and see in DTD we moseyed along. Actually, we had hoped to make it here:

But they were closed by the time we walked around and made it back to the Marketplace bus stop. Which reminds me...Em wanted to see Planet Hollywood (even though we have them here in CA she had never seen one.) So we walked from the Marketplace area past Pleasure Island to the West side. If I had paid attention I would have seen that the resort buses pick up and drop off at the West Side as well. The reason I know this now…. We walked all the way back to the Marketplace side and hopped on the bus that happened to be waiting – that went directly to the West Side to pick up awaiting passengers! Doh! At least we got a great walk completed that evening!

Bonus photos - fun at DTD:

Our Mr. Potatohead building contest: We had a employee "judge" our potato heads. It was officially a tie since the CM didn't want to make anyone feel bad!

Yay can't wait to try EoS! Your sandwich description had my mouth watering!

Aaw how nice that your birthday button got recognised. Cool pics of DTD! :thumbsup2

We took the monorail from BLT to the GF and checked in right on time for our 8:35am ADR. We had a short wait before we were paged. While we were waiting we toured the lobby of the hotel and gawked while taking a few photos.

We posed for the photo with the fake castle in the background and were then escorted to our table for two that happened to be close to the food!

This was one of my favorite buffets food-wise last trip. I anticipated a few favorites to repeat this time as well. The selections included chilled strawberry soup, smoked salmon tomatoes, red onion, chopped boiled eggs and other fixings, fresh fruit, bakery items such as breads, muffins, croissants, and bagels. The hot selections included a carving station with ham, made to order omelets, maple French toast, pancakes, maple syrup and bananas foster syrup, cheesy hash browns, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, breakfast meats (sausage and bacon), biscuits, sticky buns, and my favorite – bread pudding with vanilla sauce. The best dish was in the kid’s section – Mickey waffles!! They also had a breakfast pizza (scrambled eggs, sausage, sausage gravy on whole grain crust) and scrambled eggs for the kids.

My 1st plate was a ham and mushroom omelet, cheesy hash browns, and a small slice of ham. I also had a bowl of oatmeal (with Splenda – which is in the little packets on all tables with the other sugars/fake sugars for coffee and tea.) My 2nd plate was pure carbs which consisted of Mickey waffles, bread pudding, and a pecan sticky bun.

1st go-round:

I do believe that I finished everything on my plate! I sure wish that I would learn to eat smaller portions so that I could try more items… I’ll need to plan a return visit and practice that!

The omelet was cooked perfectly - no rubbery overcooked parts. Really, everything was excellent and there were plenty of selections that were hot and fresh. Although I have to say that the ham was being carved down to its little ham hock – I didn’t see them swap the boney stump for a meaty portion the entire time.

Em had the strawberry soup among other things:
041111-45.jpg

Our server brought a flaming cupcake to the table with a birthday themed laminated placemat. The poor server attempted to sing happy birthday to me – alone. How awkward was that? I joined in just because I didn’t feel he was ready for a solo! It was very nice of him and although I couldn’t have possibly eaten the cupcake, I thanked him. (He gave me a to-go container for the cupcake.)

As for the characters, soon after we were seated Alice and Mary Poppins came around. We held off getting our food until after we had said our “good days” to these lovely ladies. We offered the camera our daintiest poses and chatted very briefly before they moved on. Pooh and Tigger were great to hug! Tigger is so animated… all of our Tigger interactions were excellent!

Tigger came around twice:
041111-61.jpg

So we saw Mary, Alice, Pooh, Tigger and who is missing here??? Uh… the Mad Hatter skipped us! What’s up with that? This is Em's favorite character so we didn't want to miss him. We thought that maybe they would make a second go-around the place but they are on a “track” and can’t go off the “track” – or I suppose the train will crash?? The cast member that accompanies the characters did tell us that he would take us to Mad Hatter but that he couldn’t come to our table. Ok… no problem. I have to say that we probably should have just skipped this guy altogether since he really didn’t have anything to say to us other than so where do you live? Totally not in character might I add! Boo!

Em and Mad Hatter:
041111-67.jpg

The total bill for this meal was $43.33 with TIW and an 18% gratuity. Our savings with the TIW card was $8.40 for two adults.

I still like 1900 Park Fare, it has become somewhat of a tradition but I think that I'm getting a bit tired of the character buffets since I have to time getting my food to when they come around! [insert grinning face here!] I would much rather be able to dig right in without considering if we would miss a character interaction should I leave my seat. Regardless, since this is the only place that you can get up front and personal with the Mad Hatter, we'll keep this on our list. Oh, and the food is pretty good as well!

Up next: Sci Fi Dine In. Wait and see how this one ended!!!

041111-191.jpg

041111-190.jpg

We had a lunch ADR at Sci-Fi Dine In at 1:25pm. We arrived around 1:20 and had a short wait. They were taking walk-ups with a 15 minute wait. As people approached the hostess they showed them a photo of the pic-nic tables that they could be seated at.

041111-195.jpg

We were happy to be seated as the “drivers” in a car near the front of the “drive-in” and not near the back like last time.

041111-199.jpg

Brenda was our server – it wasn’t hard to remember her name! The folks sitting directly behind us chatted it up with us and were very friendly. I did tell them that they should feel free to tip their driver!

I love onion rings and I really wanted to see if Sci Fi had some worthy rings to offer. Since they are served with a horseradish dipping sauce, it sealed the deal for me. Em ordered the artichoke dip and then we ordered a bacon cheeseburger to split since this would be more than enough for two of us. (I was tired of feeling so full and bloated from overindulging.)

It was a short wait before our appetizers arrived. Yummy looking onion rings with a dipping sauce on the side….looks were obviously deceiving! The onion rings were greasy, limp, and not that hot. The horseradish sauce had no bite, no kick, no spice, and was not exciting at all. I’m not even sure that they added more than a dab of horseradish in the sauce. I took a bite of the artichoke dip with the tortilla chips and it was ok – not exciting and certainly not something that I would pay $7.99 for it but Em seemed to enjoy it.

I literally had time to eat one onion ring before our food arrived. What the heck? Even with the timing off for the meal I do have some compliments to offer…. The burger was actually very good. It arrived already sliced in half with the mushrooms on the side in a little ramekin. I normally don’t eat cheese on my burgers but since we were splitting this, I conceded on the cheese and Em agreed to have the mushrooms on the side – everyone was happy. Like I mentioned, I really liked this burger. Oh, and the burger had grilled onion in addition to fresh slices of lettuce and tomato. I can’t remember what the burger tasted like at Beaches ‘n Cream but I believe it was better since a positive impression stayed with me for this one.

Split burger:

Because the server asked how everything was, I had to give my thoughts on our experience. Now, I typically don’t complain just to whine but I thought I would offer some advice to the kitchen staff. I told Brenda that the timing for the meal was way off and since the main came out right on top of the apps we didn’t have a chance to eat them since I didn’t want to eat a cold burger. She offered to get me some fresh hot onion rings but that ship had already sailed. I declined.

Needless to say, I think we were punished by not being offered dessert!! :rotfl2: Brenda brought the check right out and had remove the appetizers from the charge. (I offered to pay for Em’s since she ate her app but Brenda insisted on removing both from the bill.) I thanked her and we used our TIW card for our most inexpensive meal the entire trip - $17.21 with the 20% discount. We saved $3.34 with our TIW card.

Brenda did offer to pose with us for a photo... uhhh ok
041111-219.jpg

I have to say that this restaurant is going to the bottom of my list of places to re-visit in the future. I do like the theming and the service has always been ok but there just really isn’t enough appeal to pay $14 for a burger.

Next up: Coral Reef

Are Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee back at DTD?

My daughter was very disappointed that they were taken down last August and not put back up during our time there - she really wanted a photo with them!

Great reviews!:thumbsup2

Thats disappointing that your meal wasnt as good as you had hoped. I hate when that happens. Its also a shame you didnt get offered dessert as I've heard the chocolate peanut butter cake there is delicious! We're going here on our trip in 8 days and I knew the food wasnt something to rave about but we are going for the atmosphere. We love the drive-in so it should be fun!

The quality of the food at Sci-Fi is just not very good, IMO. The atmosphere is SO much fun though, I agree. :)

As for Tweedle Dee/Dum, I didn't recall them being there last Fall but they did catch our attention this trip. Thanks for reading along.

It really is a good choice for the unique atmosphere and theming. The burger actually wasn't bad so if I want to spend $14 on a burger - I know where to go! ;)

And it is great to poke fun at the corny movie clips. It is still a very popular place despite not serving the best of the best among WDW restaurants.

Because I have not had the time to spend with my dining review (stupid work - which actually pays for all this vacation madness!) I am throwing in a bonus review for penance.

Before we ate at Sci-Fi we had perused Beverly & Sunset and Starring Rolls to drool over the delicious goodies. Since we did not have dessert we HAD to go back mid-afternoon and pick out something to take us to a happy place!

Here's some of the choices at Beverly & Sunset:

After pacing back and forth and not being able to decide (seriously!) I finally was influenced by those who spoke of the legendary carrot cake cookies.

041111-302.jpg

There is a smile on my face for a good reason! This cookie was delish! I seriously considered picking up a few more and just skipping dinner but my kid wanted to eat at Coral Reef. :rotfl:

Em picked a chocolate covered marshamallow on a Mickey stick:

041111-298.jpg

It looked good.... she would have preferred dark chocolate but it was good.

While we were sitting there enjoying our full bellies from these snacks a very nice cast member came up to me and said he noticed my Birthday button and wished me a Happy Birthday and gave us each a chocolate chip cookie. How nice of him.

Here's what a Starring Rolls chocolate chip cookie looks like - yep, a regular cookie.

Back to my normally scheduled dining review momentarily. Coral Reef really will be up next. :cool2:

I just had to post to you. The picture you posted of the macadamia nut and pineapple pancakes looked so good and the description of the restaurant sounded so good, I had to make a adr at kona. This is our first trip in many years and our 6 year old dd first visit ever. I hope we can make kona a tradition too. Thanks for all your info on the places to dine. We also have adrs for ltt and akershus. September can't come soon enough!

I love your reviews. You are making me rethink our dining plans. We have been very traditional in eating a small breakfast in our room and then using our dining plans CS for lunch and TS for dinner. I think we need to break out and try out some of the TS for breakfast or lunch! They look great!!!!

Sorry for the unintended break in the review... between travel for work and my PC crashing - I was not able to update. BUT... here we go again.

Back to it.....
