"One Step Ahead of the Slowpokes!"- A Dec '10/Jan '11 Trip Report! FINISHED 3/9 pg 38

Yay on waking up feeling better!!

Wow on the parking prices and then the amount of people actually at IOA! Hopefully it will not be as crowded when you go in June!

Love the pics of Hogwarts Castle! :lovestruc Can't wait to see it!

I agree in that Mandrakes cured petrification.

Your review of FJ is making me soo excited - am sure glad we added IOA to our plans!

A 45 min wait for shops!! :scared1:

Can't wait to try me some butterbeer! :cloud9:

Love this update! So, I haven't read the HP books, or seen the movies, but WWoHP looks amazing!!! If I decide to go to Universal, I'm going to have to have an HP movie marathon, so I know what I'm looking at when we go! That Butterbeer sounds SOOOO good!

Looking forward to your next update! :cool2:

Enjoyed your Harry Potter update. I have heard that most people seem to like frozen butterbear over regular. I guess we will just have to try both. I am sorry you did not get a scarf. That is the one thing I want in December. I belive I am a Gryffindor. My daughter says I am a Slytherin. I know that she is wrong. She thinks she is a Ravenclaw. Should be some interesting shoppping. We are staying onsite for one night to get early entry and front of the line. Hopefully we can get a lot done in a reasonable amount of time.

Sorry you got wet on Jurassis Park. On a cold day that is not fun. Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your day. Glad you were feeling better.

Yea! So glad you're feeling better this day :goodvibes

Thanks for the advice on Harry Potter books vs. movies. I think I might read book #1 then watch the movie, book #2 then movie, etc. Do you think that would be a good idea? The HP part of Universal looks so cool! If I get really into the books we may just have to do one day there in October. Not sure what DH will say about that though... :rolleyes1

The weirdest thing though - I have a Nook e-reader. I just tried to buy the book from the Barnes and Noble store and it isn't sold in Nook format! Urg! I guess I will have to go by our used bookstore. I'm sure they have it cheap. Actually you probably know the store I'm talking about - Ed McKay? Love it!

Butterbeer and the pumpkin juice sound so good too!

I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but the WWoHP looks amazing! It seriously looks like something right out of a storybook, so I'd say they did an excellent job! :thumbsup2

They really did do a great job on it! It's just like the books and the movies! :goodvibes

Loved your update! The crowds sounded insane  I can't believe it got to the point they were at capacity and had to wait for people to leave to let others in. But despite the crowds you and John still saw more than I did :rotfl: I didn't even go in all of the shops :guilty: That's what I get for trying to do 2 parks in 1 day :headache: But how cute they sell the house scarves! I'm definitely getting one of those next time I visit WWoHP :)

Thanks! The crowds were worse than I'd ever seen, but we still managed to do all we really wanted to do. We missed out on a lot too though, so hopefully the crowds won't be as bad for our next trip!

I was terrified by the Forbidden Journey...with the spiders that spit in your face. I spent the whole ride gripping my fiancé's leg! :rotfl:

It was pretty scary! The spiders and the dragon really scared me! :scared1:

Yayyy for feeling better! :woohoo:

I am so excited for WWOHP!!! :wizard: I can't wait for Forbidden Journey and Butterbeer!!!! :woohoo:

The mandrakes made the students un-petrified!

Can't wait for you to get back to WDW!!! :thumbsup2

You are going to love WWoHP! Forbidden Journey and Butterbeer were my favorite parts! :goodvibes

You're right! :thumbsup2

Great update on WWoHP. We've never been to Universal, but we're going for two days in the middle of our August WDW trip. The kids are so excited since we've just started reading the HP books. It looks amazing.

Thanks! :) I think you are really going to love it!

I believe they cure Petrification :)

PS Just tuning into your trip report, it looks amazing!

You're right! :thumbsup2

Oh, and :welcome: to my TR! Thanks for joining in! :)

Ok, I am so not a Harry Potter fan. Never watched the movies or read the books, have no desire to, but that really looked like fun. Even though I had no idea what you was talking about lol

It was a ton of fun! I think even the non Harry Potter fans would enjoy it! :)

Man, I can't wait to go to WWOHP... :lovestruc

You're going to LOVE it! :thumbsup2

Wow, I love all your photos. I've been reading the Harry Potter books since I was 14 (obsessed!!!) and I'm so excited and can't wait until we're there in September! It's going to be my 28th birthday on our trip too (but I'm spending that day in MK, I want a birthday button :) ).

You are going to have a great time! I am the same as you (obsessed) and it was like a dream come true! :cloud9: I think spending your actual b-day in MK is a great idea, though! :thumbsup2

Yay on waking up feeling better!!

Wow on the parking prices and then the amount of people actually at IOA! Hopefully it will not be as crowded when you go in June!

Love the pics of Hogwarts Castle! :lovestruc Can't wait to see it!

Can't wait to try me some butterbeer! :cloud9:

I was so relieved when I started feeling better!

Universal seems to have a lot of extra charges that I don't notice at Disney, but maybe it was just because we weren't staying on property.

You are going to be so glad you added IOA to your plans! WWoHP is amazing! :thumbsup2

Oh, and the Mandrakes cured the petrified Basilisk victims :thumbsup2

You got it! :thumbsup2

Love this update! So, I haven't read the HP books, or seen the movies, but WWoHP looks amazing!!! If I decide to go to Universal, I'm going to have to have an HP movie marathon, so I know what I'm looking at when we go! That Butterbeer sounds SOOOO good!

You really should watch the movies! You would love them! Of course, I would recommend reading the books first but that is a pretty big job.

Sorry you got wet on Jurassis Park. On a cold day that is not fun. Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your day. Glad you were feeling better.

My husband and I agreed that the frozen Butterbeer was much better! I hope you are able to get a Gryffindor scarf! I was really happy with the selection of merchandise they had for the all the houses, but they definitely had the most for Gryffindor and Slytherin so either way you're set! ;) I think that staying onsite for early entry is a great idea!

Thank you! Getting wet was not great, but feeling better sure was! :)

I just realized that you're a Hufflepuff :lmao: So am I! I got my scarf online a few years ago :)

That's awesome! I am proud to be a Hufflepuff! :thumbsup2

Yea! So glad you're feeling better this day :goodvibes

Thanks for the advice on Harry Potter books vs. movies. I think I might read book #1 then watch the movie, book #2 then movie, etc. Do you think that would be a good idea? Butterbeer and the pumpkin juice sound so good too!

Thanks! I was glad I was feeling better too! :)

I think that reading each book and then watching the movie would be a good idea! They take out a lot in the movies so reading the book first is a must I think! Maybe you can get your DH to read the books too so then he will want to go with you! ;)

That is weird! I don't know a lot about the e-readers but I can't believe they wouldn't have something as popular as Harry Potter! Yep! I LOVE Ed McKay! We go to the one in Winston almost every weekend. I buy a lot of stuff there for my classroom because teachers get 10% off. I know for a fact that the Winston store has all of the Harry Potter books! :thumbsup2

John and I had a great time exploring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but we were more than ready to get back to Disney World! I don't know what it is, but anytime I visit WDW I always feel really weird when we leave the actual World. Am I the only one who does that? I honestly get a little bit of separation anxiety anytime we drive off property. :sad1:

Anyway, we were finished up with Universal and it was barely lunchtime. We still had hours and hours before our dinner reservations at Artist Point and we were both hungry. We decided to go to Downtown Disney and grab a bite to eat at one of our favorite places.

100_0176.jpg

Earl of Sandwich! :worship: Ohh, how I love thee! I try to make a point to eat here every trip, so I was really excited about this opportunity presenting itself! It was packed (as always) so while John waited in the ridiculously long line I went outside and grabbed us a table. It was pretty warm out, so as long as I kept my jacket on I was comfortable. I waited for what seemed like half of an eternity before John finally came out with our food.

We used two meal credits from the DxDP and we each got a sandwich with chips and a drink. John went with the Cannonball (a meatball sub) and I got my favorite, the All American (turkey, ranch, cranberries, cheese, lettuce, and tomato).

100_0178.jpg

100_0177.jpg

Of course both sandwiches were delicious! I can barely stand to look at the picture of mine because it makes me want another SOO badly!

After we finished our yummy lunch we decided to wander around and do some shopping! We went in a few stores, but I really wasn't in a shopping mood so we headed over to the other side of DTD. When we got there I took a picture of the hot air balloon!

100_0179.jpg

We still had a ton of time before our dinner reservations and nothing to do, so we decided to go see a movie! It might seem weird to some people that we would go to the movies while at Disney World, but it has actually become a little bit of a tradition for us. John and I are absolutely in love with the movie theater at DTD. It is so much nice than the theaters we have here at home! We love the way the snacks are distributed, plus the fact that you can add as much butter as you want to your popcorn and you can add flavorings to your soda!

Anyway, we went in the theater and got a big popcorn and two large drinks. I can't remember what that cost, but I'm guessing it was around $50. :lmao: We got a kick out of the fact that the theater had a FULL BAR in the lobby! I was tempted to get a drink just because it was such a novelty but I decided not to. After we finished obsessing over the theater like the Beverly Hillbillies we went in to see our movie.

So, what movie did we see? Well, I let John pick and he chose True Grit. I was a little bit apprehensive but it turned out to be a great movie!

After we finished up we went back to the resort to freshen up. I relaxed for a little while and watched some Stacey and then we decided to head over to the Wilderness Lodge a little bit early. We were really excited for our first dinner in a deluxe resort, so we wanted some time to look around!

When we arrived at the Wilderness Lodge the first thing I noticed was that it was HUGE! This was the first time I had ever been to a deluxe resort so I was really impressed with the size. Then we went in the lobby and I was instantly impressed by the HUGE Christmas tree!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010459.jpg

DisneyChristmasTrip2010460.jpg

Wow, it was gorgeous! We looked around the lobby a little and then went into the gift shop. They had the cutest merchandise!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010461.jpg

DisneyChristmasTrip2010462.jpg

The merchandise wasn't the only impressive stuff in the gift shop, though. They had amazing Native American artifacts too!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010463.jpg

We probably spent about twenty minutes just looking around. We were in there so long we felt like we really should buy something, so we picked out a present for our babies!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010464.jpg

My dogs are absolutely obsessed with tennis balls, and I loved these because they had Disney characters on them! I thought they would be perfect, but I turned out to be dead wrong. When we got home and gave them to the dogs we realized they had squeakers in them. The only thing my dogs love more than tennis balls is tearing the squeakers out of toys, so now every tennis ball they get is instantly torn to shreds because they are looking for squeakers! Oh well. :confused3

After we made our purchase we headed back to the lobby to look around some more. We saw a really cool headdress.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010465.jpg

Then we decided to pose for some pictures. Sorry they're so blurry; my camera really stinks in low lighting!

Here's John's mini photo shoot:

And here's mine:

After we finished goofing off it was finally time for our dinner reservations!

Up Next: Our first signature dining experience EVER! Stay tuned! popcorn::

I'm sorry you had to cancel your Le Cellier ADR! Just remember, it will be there the next time you go... and the time after that... lol. Better to take a break and save it for next time!

I am so jealous of your WWoHP trip! I really want to get there, but I think it will have to wait until I get DS into HP... I have tried the pumpkin juice too, but I wasn't a huge fan. Iwould love to try some Butterbeer though!

The t-shirt you are wearing in your new avatar picture is another tshirt that I own. I would appear we have similar taste!

I can't wait to hear about the sleigh ride!

Yay EoS looks so yummy! Can't wait to eat there! popcorn::

Watching a movie at Disney World sounds like a good tradition to have. I have just seen some updated pics of the seats and food choices available and the theatre looks much better then the ones in the UK! :lmao:

Wow at that Christmas tree - it sure is huge!! Love all the WL photos and look forward to reading your review of AP :)

I'm really hoping to squeeze in a trip to EOS on this trip. Their sandwiches are so yummy! I really wish we had a location here in Georgia.

The WL is so beautiful! It sounds like you too had fun waiting for dinner. I can't wait to hear about your meal! :goodvibes

That's so cute that you guys went to a movie! I went to one once too... I think it was Underdog. It was so long ago! I must have been in middle school. I just remember the seats being REALLY comfortable!

Wilderness Lodge is SO pretty at Christmas time! I may have to just make a dining reservation there so I can go look at the decorations! :goodvibes

OMG, EoS!!! :worship: I'd give anything to be in Florida right now, just to have a sandwich from there...yum!

That movie theater sounds awesome! I don't think I've ever thought of seeing a movie at Disney, but it's a good idea when you have some time to kill and don't want to do a park! :thumbsup2

Isn't my WL beautiful?? :lovestruc I love walking into the lobby, it's so amazing! And I love the gift shop there too, I love that they have WL merchandise there, not many resorts have that anymore!

Can't wait to read about Artist Point!

Thanks for the book and movie advice! So, I went ahead and bought the first HP book on Friday. Unfortunately, I was at Wal-Mart and just wanted to go ahead and start so I probably paid way too much. I'll make sure to go to Ed McKay for the rest though! I'm already 2/3 of the way finished and I love it so far! I'm kind of bummed that I'm just now getting into it, but better late than never, I guess. I talked to DH on Saturday and it didn't take much convincing for him to agree to go to Universal too. Yea! We're still deciding on if we want to stay on property there for a night or two. I'm thinking we probably will though so that we'll get early entrance to the HP area. But I'm afraid I'll feel like you did leaving Disney property! But we're in Orlando for 9 nights so maybe it won't be too bad.

I'm totally with you about EOS! One of my favorite CS places in all of Disney. I tried 3 different sandwiches on our trip last May (not all at the same time! ) and loved them all.

Going to a movie in DTD is also a tradition for us so don't feel weird! We love that theater too. And it's just a nice break. We go to the movies at home at least every other weekend so we enjoy it there too. I've been dying to see all of the new snack options they have. I've read something about a drink station where they have all sorts of flavor add-ins. And how you can get popcorn or ice cream with mix-ins. (link here: disneyfoodblog) It looks so cool!

Hope you have a great signature experience! We almost made an ADR for Artist Point on our upcoming trip but I ultimately decided against it. Hopefully one day.

You're right, Le Cellier is always going to be there! I'm glad I decided to go back because I think it helped me get better faster.

Butterbeer is WAY better than Pumpkin Juice! You will love it! I hope you get to go someday soon!

That's so cool! We do have similar taste!

Yay EoS looks so yummy! Can't wait to eat there! popcorn::

You are going to love EoS! It's delicious!

That theater is sooo much better than anything we have in NC! It's such a great experience to go there on our trips!

I loved the tree at WL! It was gorgeous!

I'm really hoping to squeeze in a trip to EOS on this trip. Their sandwiches are so yummy! I really wish we had a location here in Georgia.

The WL is so beautiful! It sounds like you too had fun waiting for dinner. I can't wait to hear about your meal! :goodvibes

I wish we had one in NC too! There might be one somewhere but if there is it's not close to me!

It is gorgeous! It was a really nice experience looking around the lobby!

That's so cute that you guys went to a movie! I went to one once too... I think it was Underdog. It was so long ago! I must have been in middle school. I just remember the seats being REALLY comfortable!

The seats are really comfortable! It's so much nicer than the theater we have here!

You're right, it is gorgeous at Christmas time! It was worth going there just to see the decorations. We wanted to stay there originally but with Christmas prices it was just WAY too expensive!

OMG, EoS!!! :worship: I'd give anything to be in Florida right now, just to have a sandwich from there...yum!

That movie theater sounds awesome! I don't think I've ever thought of seeing a movie at Disney, but it's a good idea when you have some time to kill and don't want to do a park! :thumbsup2

I know right! EoS is AMAZING!

I would definitely recommend seeing a movie there, especially if the weather is bad or something. We saw Up there in 2009 and it was so cool seeing a Disney movie at Disney World! We left the movie and went to a gift shop and John bought me a stuffed Dug!

I totally see why you love WL so much! It's amazing! I really liked the WL merchandise. I thought about getting something but it didn't make sense since I wasn't staying there!

Thanks for the book and movie advice! So, I went ahead and bought the first HP book on Friday. Unfortunately, I was at Wal-Mart and just wanted to go ahead and start so I probably paid way too much. I'm so glad you started reading Harry Potter! I wouldn't worry too much about buying it at Wal Mart, they usually have really good prices. It probably wouldn't have been that much cheaper at Ed McKay, because there stuff is usually a little pricey. You are going to LOVE this series! It's amazing!

YAY! I'm so glad you were able to convince your DH to go to WWoHP! You should be pretty immersed in the books and movies by then so it is going to be so exciting for you! I think that staying on property one night is a good idea so you can get in early and avoid some crowds. I think that you would do alright with your Disney separation since you will be ther for nine days!

EoS is SO good! My favorite sandwich is the All American but every sandwich I've ever tried there has been amazing!

That is so cool that you guys go to the movies at DTD too! We're like you, we go to the movies at home a lot so it's a nice treat. We got to try the sodas with add-ins in December and it was really neat! I had a Diet Coke and added cherry flavoring and it was really good!

After we spent some time exploring Wilderness Lodge it was finally time for our ADR at Artist Point! I had been so excited about this because it was our first signature dining experience! I had been planning on this being a nice quiet, romantic evening and as soon as we approached Artist Point I knew this place would not disappoint!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010470.jpg

We went to the podium to check in and were taken to our table immediately. I was instantly impressed with the atmosphere. It was dark, subdued, quiet, and comfortable. I felt uncomfortable because we were so under-dressed, but no one said anything. Once we were at our table I looked around and noticed everyone was dressed like we were so I didn’t feel bad. I guess it’s okay at Disney! ;)

Here’s the view from our table. Sorry it’s so dark, but I think you can get a general idea.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010471.jpg

The ambiance in this place was amazing. There were quite a few people there but it was very quiet and had a private feel to it. It was so nice! :goodvibes

Our waiter came to our table almost instantly and introduced himself. I don’t remember his name, but I remember I really liked him. He wasn’t snotty like a lot of the waiters I am used to at “fancy” restaurants back home. He was very patient and laid back and he explained a lot of the menu to us. Then he took our drink orders. Both of us decided to stick with what we’re comfortable with and get sodas.

When he came back with our drinks our waiter brought us some bread and butter with black sea salt.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010472.jpg

The bread was fresh and really yummy, and the butter was amazing! However, it was really dense so I only allowed myself to eat one piece. I wanted to save room for my delicious dinner!

We both ordered our appetizers and enjoyed some quiet conversation while we waited for it to arrive. John went with the kettle-steamed Penn Cove mussels and I got the selection of artisanal cheeses. Before we know it our waiter came back with our appetizers!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010474.jpg

John LOVED his mussels. They came with sourdough panzanella, which is a tomato and bread salad. He didn’t really mess with that stuff because he’s not a tomato eater, but he said the mussels themselves were delicious. I know they must have been because he had to stop himself from eating the entire bowl! He said he could have easily but he wanted to save room for the main course!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010473.jpg

My appetizer was also very delicious. Thankfully our waiter took the time to explain each cheese to me so I knew what I was eating. The cheese selection came with Midnight Moon, Beemster X-O, and smokey blue cheese. Each cheese came with a seasonal fruit garnish and the appetizer also came with walnut toast. The Midnight Moon cheese (upper left corner) was GREAT! It was an aged goat milk’s cheese that tasted very nutty. The Beemster X-O (bottom left) was a gouda cheese (I think…) and it was very strong but delicious. It also had a nice nutty flavor. The smokey blue cheese was sharp and tasty. The walnut toast and fruit complements went very well with the different cheeses.

For our entrees John and I both decided to get the char-grilled buffalo strip loin steak. This entrée came with three cheese macaroni, cider-glazed brussels sprouts, and Syrah Antique (I think that was the sauce). I usually order my meat medium well, but our waiter recommended that we do not order the buffalo steak more than medium, so I ordered mine medium and John got medium rare.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010475.jpg

This picture is really dark and does not give this meal justice. I am just going to tell you, this was the most delicious steak I have ever eaten! The buffalo meat is so tender and sweet. I was a little nervous when I saw how pink my steak was, but it made it so juicy and delicious. John and I both had no trouble finishing our steaks. The macaroni was really good too. It had some sort of bread crumbs on top that were a nice crunchy addition to the creamy macaroni. However, they gave us each huge portions so neither of us finished the macaroni.

For dessert John and I both decided to go with the specialty: the Artist Point cobbler with seasonal berries and housemade icecream! We also decided to splurge a bit and order drinks with our dessert. I got a nice dessert wine and John got a Jack and Coke.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010476.jpg

I love sweet wines and this dessert wine did not disappoint! I can’t for the life of me remember what it was, but it was really yummy and went perfectly with my dessert!

Here is a very happy John waiting for his dessert!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010477.jpg

Speaking of dessert…

DisneyChristmasTrip2010478.jpg

Oh. My. Goodness. :lovestruc This dessert almost put the entrée to shame! The cobbler was piping hot and really fresh, and the icecream had the most amazing flavor! The berries were ripe and juicy and so so sweet! Before I knew it I had eaten the whole thing!

We finished our amazing meal and sat for a little while enjoying our drinks and talking. We could have sat there in that cozy restaurant all night, but we had other places to be so we left a big tip for our awesome waiter and said goodbye to Artist Point! :wave2:

We said goodbye to the Wilderness Lodge, and on our way our I snapped a picture of the cute deer family seeing us off!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010479.jpg

Overall, this was the best dining experience we’ve ever had at Disney! :thumbsup2 It was sophisticated but we didn’t feel like we were surrounded by snobs. The restaurant was gorgeous and relaxing. The food was fantastic. I highly recommend this place to anyone!

Up Next: Our romantic evening isn’t over yet! Stay tuned for our fabulous private sleigh ride through Fort Wilderness! :cloud9:
