im not in yet (spring adv 2012 hopeful!) but i was wondering if its possible to room with international CPs..?
i would LOVE the opportunity to share an appt with people from different countries and learn about the different cultures.
particularly i would love a roommate from the UK or Australia.. :]
so i guess my question is once u r n i kno that there are several ways to find roommates online thru fb and stuff but are international CPs included? or is there a different fb group and websites available for them..?

Hey there!

I'm from Canada so I suppose that makes me an international! The only way you'd be able to room with an international person would probably be if you got an apartment in the Patterson complex. The Commons (where most international college programmers and cultural representative people are) is closed to American CPs, I believe. But don't quote me on that! I haven't even applied for the Cultural Rep Program yet!

The website I'm on the most with international people is this one:

Hope that helps!

There are a ton of ICPs in all of the apartment complexes. It's completely possible. I had a friend with five roommates, none of whom spoke English.

:lmao:
If you're talking about a person having those roommates at any of the Disney apartments, your friend might have been made fun of by their roommates in their languages! To work in any of the Disney programs, the participant MUST be able to speak fluent English.

I wish I could speak better French. I think it'd be cool to confuse people while talking in a language they don't understand. But then again, I have an odd sense of humour. ;)

It's completely possible to have a international CP as a roommate. In my last program, two of my roommates were from South Korea (one of them is attending school at Las Vegas University as a full time student) and my friend had two ICP roomies, one from England and the other from China. It just depends if your check in day is the same as some of the ICPs. I know in my first program, right when I was getting my apartment key and starting to head over to my apartment in Chatham, two huge buses full of Asian ICPs arrived to check in. I didn't got any of them, but most likely some of the cps still standing in line probably got to room with some of them. In my first program, international students (both ICPs and CRPs) stayed mainly at Vista and the Commons, none at Chatham(Patterson was still being built). But, in my second program, they were divided among all three complexes, though Vista Way had the most. The Commons was all CRPs and some ICPs and american cps are not allowed to stay there, though you can visit (especially since they have the craziest parties there). I loved having two Asian ICPs because they mainly cooked Asian food for themselves all the time, which is my favorite food, and they were always nice enough to share some with me.

Though, international cps are not allowed to pick where they stay. They are automatically placed where housing decides to place them. So, getting an international roomie is based on luck for you and if housing decides to put them with all international cps or mix them with American cps. My friend and I were lucky enough to get two ICPs each as roomies.

I had a roommate from Argentina for the last month of my program & one of my friends had a roommate from Thailand for the last month. We both lived in Chatham. Most of my ICP friends lived in Chatham or Vista.

Haha, one of my South Korean roomies barely spoke any English. We all had trouble communicating with her. The other south korean spoke fluent English only because she goes to school full time here in America. Though, she couldn't help translate for the other Korean because they spoke different dialects from their country and couldn't understand what she was saying as well. You will be surprise at how many international cps you will meet that does not speak fluent English, especially from Asia.

Just as a (really off-topic) note, while it may seem cool at first glance, it can actually be quite hurtful. I grew up in Quebec, and attended French-language schools until my family moved to the U.S. when I entered High School. I remember in Grade 5 or thereabouts having an anglophone girl whose family moved to Quebec from Ontario join the class.

Many of the other kids, most of whom could also speak English, would intentionally speak French when around her and make all sorts of derogatory jokes about her because they knew she couldn't understand them. It became so bad that the she basically became a social recluse and refused to interact with anyone, and was eventually transfered over to the English-language system. While I didn't realize it straight away, looking back it's really sad what happened to her.

No one ever wants to feel excluded or made fun of, regardless of the reason. Just saying.

Anyway, off my soapbox :rolleyes1.

In response to the OP's question, it is indeed possible to have international roommates if the arrival/departure schedules are similar. The vast majority of Disney International Program Participants are housed in the same three housing complexes as Disney College Program and Disney CareerStart Program Participants. The Commons Housing Complex only houses Cultural Representative Participants working at Epcot, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park or Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Sorry. I didn't mean to sound like a total...well you know. Jerk, I guess. Trust me, I don't take joy in hurting others in any way. I have too much of a conscience for that. :guilty:

Hey fellow Canadian CRPer here but Im from the last round so good luck applying in July! You may be roomed with a Cultural Rep in patterson but usually not. However, the ICPers are roomed in the different complexes. A bunch of us Canadian ICPers have been in Vista and Chatham! :) Luck of the draw for roommates.

Haha! Good to see another Canuck! :thumbsup2

I was in Chatham and had a roomie from Brazil, and another from Argentina. And my best friend was in Vista and she was from England, her roomie also from England, their house mate from Brazil and the other girl American.
So yeah totally possible.

Speaking as an ex ICP, it's definitely possible to find one or more of us in the apartments. I was there last year, and they spread every International who wasn't working at an EPCOT pavilion across the other complexes, but mostly in Vista for the Australians and New Zealanders (I'm the latter of the two).

It really depends where they have room at the time we arrive, or so I heard, so that's quite a large factor on where they put us. Obviously after that we can move around, but our first apartment choice is not our own :(

Hey thanks info and input!

But I'm still a little confused..
So what Ur saying is that it's is possible to get an icp roomate (yay!)
however it's pure luck if u do (ugh!) ?

So roommate matching doesn't work the same as for us cps in the states..?
There's no way I could meet an icp online with the same arrival dates and show up and room together..?

Well if you show up together maybe. But if you want to use the roomate notification system no.

Yeah, it's a completely different system for us than for you guys in the States.

Also, the apartment complexes seem to like emptying out entire apartments as much as possible and putting all the internationals together, which is kind of a bummer.

You never know though, with a bit of luck you might end up with one of us - and there's always the opportunity to meet people outside your apartment!!
