and are you are shocked, surprised, stunned, etc. as I am?

I don't want to give anything away to those who haven't watched yet, but I had to get that out there. Wow.

ETA: I didn't mean for this to become a spoiler thread, but I guess it should be! :)

As my DH just pointed out to me--just because she closed her eyes doesn't mean that she is dead!! I didn't see the Capt Montgomery thing coming AT ALL!!!:confused3

It was a set up to catch the professional killer. Remember how kate made eye contact with castle just before...dont want to give ending away.

I am hoping that maybe the shot at the funeral was just for show so the killer will back off going after Kate..

My DH believes it was real and that she will be A OK since it was a belly wound.

OP...Put spoiler alert in title of thread...we need to talk about it. I just could not believe it!

Now that this is a spoiler thread, I can say that my mouth just hung open when the hitman was talking to Montgomery. I had read in TV Guide that a cast member would end up in a casket, and as soon as that scene was done, I knew who it would be. And when Castle had to physically carry Beckett out, I lost it.

and the last scene--WOW. But my first thought was "she's wearing a bullet proof vest". I just wonder if Castle knew or what he said was part of the scam.

Thanks for changing this to a spoiler thread.

It is going to be a very long summer after that episode. I still don't quite have the dots connected for what the Captain felt guilty about that happened years before Kate's Mom was murdered but I saved the episode on DVR to watch it again, it had to do with changing the reports but I am still not sure. I thought I had it all along and then BAM the episode became so shocking that I think my brain turned off.

I started watching the during the last 30 minutes and was somewhat confused by the mom thing/change reports too. Can someone quickly recap for me because I didn't record it?

My thoughts for the final scene are..........Castle wrote a book about it and that scene is how his book ends.........but not what actually occurred.

It was a show when it started last night I did not want to watch it - I knew it would be too much (blood, guts, gore, twitsts and turns) but I got over it!

In the court room - that was too convenient - (how they got away with a helicopter!) but I still liked it! (even if Beckett was the only one that tried to go after them!)

and when the shoot out was happening, Castle carrying Beckett out of the hangar, and she hears what 4 - 5 shots, knowing that Montgomery was there alone, and she waits, till the last 2 shots to run and help? I didnt like that part - they could've had the same outcome, but with Beckett providing back up a little sooner, imho!

and the cemetery scene - my first thought Castle will be the hero saving Becket, but when he was too late for that - *sigh... did you see the tear that came out of her eye? and there was a lot of blood.... wasnt there? ;)

its going to be a long summer!

BTW - do you also watch The Mentalist on CBS? they are different, but so similar - I tend to forget the nuances that belong to each character!

Up front, let me say I'm a big fan of CASTLE, but most of the characters acted, well, out of character for this episode. All signs had been pointing to Montgomery the past few episodes dealing with this case, including his "retirement" scene just last week. Foreshadowing. But, I digress.

Montgomery - He made arrangements for the files to be found or sent, but knowing that he was most likely going to die, wouldn't he have given the name to Beckett at the hangar? (short answer: yes)

Beckett - Anyone truly think Castle would have been able to pick her up and haul her out of the hangar when her boss was about to be killed? Anyone think Beckett wouldn't have hidden and come to his aid at just the right time? Anyone think she would have fallen to pieces only to recover in time to see Montgomery die?

Castle - No way he physically picks up Beckett and moves her out of harm's way. First, she would have cold-cocked him with an elbow; second, he would have done anything to help her defend her boss. Third, he wouldn't let Montgomery face the killers alone.

Assassin (whose name escapes me) - He doesn't roll up wondering where Beckett is. He is in place already. He and his men don't clump together for convenient killing. And he doesn't let Montgomery get the drop on him at any point. Umm, these guys are trained (my guess is they'd be wearing body armor, too, and three head shots in the dark is unbelievable).

Finally, why kill Beckett? It's not like she's the only person who knows anything anymore. The entire office knows. The entire department would be rolled in now. Talk about shutting the gate after the cows get out. I realize this is TV, but this episode was just a bit too trite, too contrived for my taste. Better the producers finish this story this season, in this episode, then start something new next season, and that could have been the cliffhanger instead. :thumbsup2

Well Beckett isn't dead. She's the female lead of the show. No Beckett, no show unless they revamp the whole thing. And with another Nikki Heat book coming out and a rumored tie-in actual Nikki Heat movie coming to theaters I'm seriously doubting Disney/ABC is killing off Beckett.

I don't like that Montgomery was the 3rd cop. The explanation rationalized it but still, he let Beckett search all those years when he had the answer?

And the story isn't over. Who's pulling the strings? Montgomery sent the real files to Beckett (presumedly) so who's the top guy? Who is the "HE" that the hit man was referring to. Who ordered the hit on Beckett?

Montgomery was hinted at recently, yes, so not a huge surprise.

No, there is absolutely no way Castle could have strong armed Kate out of the hangar.

Kate's not dead. You don't kill a major character like that. It was probably a set up to catch the real killers.

Who's pulling the strings? One of the things I like about the show is that if follows common "mystery writing" tropes. It makes things occasionally predictable. Based on my understanding of mysteries and writing (which is, of course, imperfect), I predict that the mastermind behind it all is....Kate's dad.
