I'm all over this! Thanks! And thanks also for starting a praise thread. Like that idea of balance! Plus, we never praise enough. As Anton Ego says,

"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so."

Both great ideas Nate. At this pace, I am going to blow through 1,000 posts in no time.

Okay, we need an actual rant to start things up, so here we go.....

Work lately, is total Beverly.

We have a store of roughly 20 or so workers. One manager, and the rest of us are union positions, ranging from Full time(which I am of one), to "Casual" workers (essentially part time). There are alot of issues that have been growing and growing in the store, in particular people who don't want to carry their share of the work that is needed to be done, and those who feel the rules do not apply to them. The manager tries, or so he says to get things under control, but is just WAY too soft on people. He works HIS butt off to fix things, not dealing with the problems themselves. Granted, he has tried to transfer the troublemakers, but the DM doesn't care much either (I know the DM enough to say he is blind to things).
An example we what we deal with
1) An assistant manager who is on "modified work program" which oddly enough only lets him stay in the back breaking down skids of stock, physical work, but cannot run a cash, put stock away on shelves, or any of the jobs that you need to keep the store running. And his philosiphy is : I only touch a case once, meaning he will leave it for others to clean up.
2) A Product Consultant who is a specialized Customer service rep, paid more to help customers. She spends most of her shifts sitting in the office complaining of the customers. Nice. She is also modified and cannot lift cases, that means, we have to do her work for her too, and feels that is her right.
3) A part-timer who can barely speak english, is "modified" and cannot work cash (this is a major job in the store....) only works in the beer fridge, refuses to help customers, and is rude, and has defied my orders when I run shifts. If he cannot get a weekend off, he produces a doctors note getting him off anyways. In any other workplace in the world, he would be called "unemployed".
4) Another part-timer who feels she is in charge, is rude, loud, crude, and will be nice to your face, and talk about you behind your back when you leave the room. She feels she is untouchable. She is buddies with the assistant manager, so that gives her the right to do nothing while the rest of us run around, go have another smoke or sit. Unbelieveable.

The union rep is not much help, she is not right in the head, too many personal issues.

I just wanted to rant, there is not a lot I can do about all this, just hate to see this place get any worse. I have been in the store since it opened almost 9 years ago. I could ask for a transfer, but I have been in the same store for 9 years, that is a LONG time in our area. I have a load of responsibilities that I have earned over the years. I could lose a lot going to another store. I could talk to the DM, but he's not all that useful, and I do not like going behind the manager's back. The manager knows how I feel, he often feels the same way. He is a great guy, but does not know how to handle things. Everyone around me tells me to relax and just do what I can do, but it's hard to do my job when I have to pick up the slack of others.

Okay, that feels good to get off my chest....Will I rant here again? Likely, I don't like ranting at home. I feel tons more relaxed already.:yay:

Turbo Tax :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We received a letter in the mail yesterday from the good ol' IRS. Apparently Turbo Tax did not properly move some data to the right place on my 1040 for 2009. I called Turbo Tax and they claim they only guarantee the calculations are correct, not the data entered. I can see where they are coming from, but it was clearly a data 'calculation' in my eyes. I entered the data, yet Turbo Tax did not properly fill in the forms.

So now we owe the government money - so much that we have no way of paying it off at this time. So we will be forever riddled in the penalties, late fees, and accrued interest. Thanks a lot, Turbo Tax! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 No summer vacation this year, or probably the next 3 or 4 years. BERVERLY!

My typical job is a Electronics Technician for an R&D group with Siemens. But as of last June I also became responsible to create Test PC's for Software Development and Test.

I worked for about a week getting 4 PC's setup for Victor,Dave,Scott and Kelli...Had 2 done and deployed with 5 images with different flavors or Windows 7 and XP...each with a unique PC name and Login.

Was in the middle of fixing #3 for Scott...when the manager for these people comes buy to see how I'm doing...he's like...These are supposed to goto John, Susan,Danny and Dave...I'm thinking well at least I got one right.

I was like how was I supposed to know this...the only request I had came from Victor...and his Test Group had some serious communication issues. He told me to stop and he would get back to me...3 weeks later he finally tells me that indeed they need to goto the last set of 4 and Danny would contact me with the detail. Turns out I need 13 different OS images for each PC...and they want them stat cause the Manager sat on it for 3 weeks. :sad2:

Finaly got all 13 Images (7 Win7; 4 Vista; 2 XP) working on one PC...now I just need to roll it out to the other 3 PCs...but they wanted them about a week ago...oh well.

I feel your pain. I got a nasty letter from the IRS re:2009. It sucks.

So I'm sitting in the airport after driving an hour to get here at 0530. My flight out of my home airport this AM was cancelled last PM. I had to pay extra for my bag. Security sucks. Now they are saying the flight is overbooked and overweight :sad2: and trying to thin the herd. Peanut butter beverly AA!

Great...I used Turbo Tax last year...but paid as opposed to got a refund....
Wondering when that nice little letter hits me---of course, I do everything paper, and don't do anything electronically...

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 To the Agent who decided to superglue the bottom plates of his pistol magazines to "keep them from falling off", and then bringing it to me (your friendly neighborhood armorer) to fix when it hangs in the gun...then stand there and complain about me yanking it off with vice grips...

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

OK.... I came here to rant, but now that I've read the previous ones, I feel sheepish in bringing it up... BUT... here goes:

I HATE shirt tags. So much so that any time I buy a new shirt I instantly grab the scissors or razor blade and remove those suckers. One would think that the shirts with the tags at the bottom of the shirt would be exempt from the removal process... but I found out today that is not the case. Stupid tags. Stupid itchy, annoying tags.

Yes Ghost...

My work place does both Industrial PLC Hardware development/testing...but also the ever growing brach of this outfit is Software development.

They have a new release of a Programming package which MUST be compatable and support the following Operating systems.

XP Home and Professional (32bit)
Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate (32 bit)
Win 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Prof, Ultimate (32bit)
Win7 Home Premium, Prof, Ultimate (64bit)

I had no images for the particular PC type they wanted to test on...so I had to build them from scratch.

All I can say is at least I don't have to do the testing.

 <---Not a banana
