Am I nuts?? One day solo trip to DisneyLand October 13, 2010 Park Vue

Thanks for sharing! Loved reading about your adventure and looking at your wonderful pictures.

When we leave for our trip in June it might just be my husband, 18 month old son, and 5 year old daughter, and I. I worry about those rides that husband and I will have to split up and ride solo because of the kiddos. Just the standing in line by myself while everyone else has their families or friends to keep them company. Plus I always think it's weird riding something with a stranger. But you eased my silly fears.

I bet if I took a solo trip I would finally have a chance to take in all the small things that just pass me by when I'm concentrating on my children.

Thanks once again for sharing. :)

Hi Deej! Only once did our parents celebrate our birthday together. My sister demanded her own cake (she always got strawberry and I chocolate). I think I was a BIG surprise. I have a brother two years older. You had yours on the same day??? Do they have two cakes on their birthday?

Thank you for the kind words about my trip report. I think I had three faithful readers but I always like reflecting and hope something I say helps someone else planning a trip.

I like your reports too. I can't look at a light and not think of you there. :rotfl: I actually took a picture of one of the light poles by the Haunted Mansion thinking 'DeeJ probably took a pic of this'. You always find things I never see. I still have no idea where those characters were that looked like dressed-up skeletans. My sister (who isn't a DISer :scared1:) read my report and said she liked the link to your report. High praise from my big sis (who is the one who is the same age as me for 5 days)

I don't think I would have waited that long in line either except my men folk were expecting a full report on the new additions. Other than that it was FP or 10 minutes or less for stand-by or I wouldn't do it.

Our next trip is coming up in ~40 days :santa: I'll probably report in after (or I'd have no excuse to take food pics)

Yes, we will always do 2 cakes for the 2 birthday boys. We never finish them both. We get a little "caked out" as my oldest son's b-day is just 2 weeks before theirs. Right now the boys think it's pretty cool that they share a birthday, but I wonder if that will last. I was thinking that if they ever feel a little cheated, we'd still celebrate both of them on their actual birthday, and then have a mini-mini-celebration on their due dates. Just so they could have something all their own. The due dates are 5 days apart. Wow, I can't imagine dealing with that kind of rivalry with twins. My friend had triplets a couple of months ago. Just sounds hard.

That's funny that the lights made you think of me. During that trip when my goal was to take a lot of light pictures, I remember specifically thinking, "Ooooh I bet Sherry would like to see a picture of this one!" I can't remember which light it was, but it was funny that I considered that when I took the picture. :rotfl:

Those skeletons...if I know what you're talking about, they are in the Big Thunder Mountain/Rancho Del Zocalo area. I didn't get any pictures. Glad your sister was able to take a peek at Halloween Time in Disneyland. :goodvibes

Hopefully I will get my TR done before you get your next one started! I remember my April one took over a month, and I was only in the parks for 3 days instead of 5 like this trip.

You would be AMAZED at what you notice when you aren't pushing a stroller and being called "Mom" every few seconds. ;) I particularly like to check out the window displays...something I can't really do at a leisurely pace when I'm with others. You're right, it can feel awkward riding with a stranger, though. When my husband and I went to DL alone in April we took advantage of Single Rider on Splash Mountain. The first time we were lucky to get seated together in the same log, first 2 seats. The next time we were separated and I got put in the very back of the log with a party of all males. Yes, that was a bit awkward.

You're very welcome :goodvibes I know a lot of people take advantage of ride swaps (which I don't know how that works) but you can stand in line together. I also saw quite a few babies enjoying a spin on Toy Story. Well maybe not enjoying but going along with their parents. Babies sit in their parent's laps.

I'm glad I could ease your fears a bit. Using Fast Passes will also really help you and the hubby out. Most of my FP return lines were less than 15 minutes (the longest was Indy because of the great queue). He (or you) can amuse the little ones while the other takes 30 minutes of 'adult' time here and there laughing like a loon while being inverted on a cool coaster or helping Indy escape doom! :thumbsup2

Have fun in June. Will you be sharing your adventures through a trip report? HINT :wizard:

Thanks for reading. Yes the solo trip was nice. I debated asking one of my workmates if they wanted to join me but felt I would have turned into a tour guide doing what they wanted. You are so right about not waiting in line at GRR for a WOC FP (enough initials?) I had fantasy land to visit during that time :goodvibes

Luckily you didn't ask your colleagues to go with you during your solo trip since you won't do all the things you want to do at the DLR. It does kind of feel lonely when you don't have someone to be with during the trip but the main thing about being solo is that you can do whatever you want to do.

I believed that you read my TR back in June when I waited in line at 5am for a WoC FP and it did take a lot of my time in the morning. For me it was a kind of not a interesting but painful experience, having to wait for almost 4 hours in the line to get a FP. I would have just waste $15 to guarantee myself a FP for the WoC show instead of waiting in the FP line at GRR but that is just me since I want to use my time wisely at the DLR.

I'm looking forward to my solo trip next week and hope everything goes well as you did on your trip.

Hi Bret,
I remember reading about your experience. YIKES :scared1: FIVE am?? The $15 was well worth it for the WOC FP alone. The tasty meal helped :thumbsup2

I was really glad I didn't have a non-great-friend-or-family person with me. It was fun choosing how to spend my day, when to eat, drink, and what to ride.

I hope your trip is a blast and goes smoothly. Sounds like the parks should be all decorated for Christmas. Any special plans? Tours etc? I hope you do a trip report when you get back. :woohoo:

Yes, I was one of the idiot people who were waiting first thing in the morning for a WoC FP on its debut day to the general public (June 11, 2010).

Right now, I am only doing a character breakfast at the Plaza so I can get character autographs for my dad's colleagues daughters. When they were at DL a few months ago they wanted character autographs and didn't get any during there trips. So I am doing something nice for them. I wanted to do the Holiday tour, but since I have done it last season and have no one with me. I don't feel comfortable to go solo on the tour.

I have ordered myself a WoC picnic on Friday Nov. 19 so I am guarantee a FP for the 9pm WoC show.

I have setup a PTR and is on my signature below. I am planning on doing a live TR when I go to DL next week. Whenever I am waiting for the nighttime shows at DL or DCA or in the room, I will do a live TR during my trip. I always like to make it interesting

It's very nice that you are going to the character meal to get signatures for your friend's children. Character meals are the way to go that's for sure!

Which picnic did you choose?

Can't wait for your trip report! I've already subbed in :thumbsup2 You'll be at WDW right before my family in December. We can have dueling trip reports.

Yea, it wouldn't hurt doing a character breakfast at the Plaza since I haven't done one in years. I can get two things done in one place and go straight on the rides after breakfast.

When I did the picnic in August, I had the American. The American was nice for a cold item. This time I was planning on doing the American again, but I also might want to try the Asian picnic. But I will decide on which one I want to do when I pick up my picnic on Friday.

I read on your TR that your family will be there when my trip at WDW is completed in mid December. Hope you and your family have a great time at WDW in late December.

Forgot to mention when I posted last night that I'm going to read another one of your TRs that I haven't read yet. That will be my lunch-time DIS reading material. :) Also, remember to post a link to your next trip so I can find you! I've only ventured to the WDW side a few times and I don't want to miss out. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the great advice. :)

Yep, I'll be doing a TR! I did one for my trip in 2008 and loved it. I attempted a live report at first but that only lasted the first few days.

I've started my PTR if you want to check it out. Link is listed below.

Super - I'm off to sub in. It's fun for me to read trip reports from DISers with young children. Mine have long since been 'adults' in our eyes and at Disney - cha ching. :rolleyes1

Thanks for reading!

Just got done looking at your trip report!! Sounds like you had a great time.....even if it was by yourself!! I loved all the pictures!!!!! Thanx for sharing all of those for those of us that have never been during the Halloween time of year....they were awesome!

Thanks for the nice comments. I'm glad you enjoyed my trip report Laurie :goodvibes

Just found this TR via the Halloween thread and wanted to thank you. We are going in October 2011 but I will be a solo rider while DH takes our young daughters back to nap in the afternoon. I am super excited after reading your report and seeing photos. I was a little worried about being a solo rider but I feel better now!

It will be great especially if you are able to collect a couple of fastpasses so you don't need to stand in line very long.

Glad you enjoyed the trip report. Thank you for commenting. It made my day! :goodvibes

Really, THANK YOU! You are a great inspiration! I can't wait to collect my FPs and SR the ones that I can. You made it look so easy and even more fun than dragging the family around. What freedom!

Sounds like you'll have the best of both worlds - family time and time to run around like a big kid riding the big rides! :goodvibes
